EC2005 Information

Dates: August 3rd to August 9th, 2005

Note: All costs are in Canadian dollars (CAD). Ontario has 15% sales tax, which is not included in most of the below prices.

Note: The Toronto area uses 10-digit dialing for local calls. The phone numbers below are for local calls. If you are calling long distance, you will have to dial 1 first.

Also see the main JCF thread.

Hotel

The Primrose Best Western Hotel
111 Carlton Street, Toronto
416-977-8000

Rates are between $150 and $200 per night. For 6 nights, this is between $900 and $1200. If you share a room with others, the hotel cost for you will obviously be less. Room service and pay TV (etc.) will have additional costs.

Roommates and reservations have been decided. See the list for more information, though it is currently out of date.

Food

The hotel does not have a complimentary breakfast, but it has a restaurant that opens at 6:30 AM. There is also a Tim Horton's (sandwiches, coffee, donuts, etc.) nearby. Lunch will likely be eaten at fast-food places or at cafeterias/concessions at the specific locations. Supper could be eaten at fast-food places, or at restaurants, or at the hotel if we are back in time. It really depends on what you want to do. The costs will vary depending on what we are doing that day, and what you decide to eat, but a very generous estimate is $35 per full day.

Transportation

For most of our travels we will be using Toronto's public transit system. A single fare is $2.50, or you can buy 5 tickets for $10 or 10 for $20. Additional fares will be required when travelling to Mississauga or when using GO Transit.

To and from the Airport

If you don't want to carry all your baggage to the hotel on public transit, you may want to take a taxi for arrival and departure. A taxi ride from the airport to the hotel is about $47. If you meet others at the airport, you could split this cost. There is also an airport shuttle, run by Airport Express, but it is a rather long walk from the closest stop (stop #2, Delta Chelsea Inn) to the hotel.

Public Transit Directions

  1. Take the 192 Airport Rocket bus (South) to Kipling Station
  2. Take the Green Line subway (East) to Bloor-Yonge
  3. Take the Yellow Line (East/South) to College
  4. Walk about 3 blocks (East) on Carlton St. to Jarvis St.
