I just saw Brother Bear today, and drew this when I got home. Its based on the salmon run scene. I thought it was a very nice movie. I bet I would have really loved that movie as a kid. Transforming into animals was one of my favorite fantasies.

The movie has a bit of a different feel to it than other stuff I've watched, even other Disney stuff, so I felt a bit odd about it at the beginning, but I found it to be a good movie and the feel of the movie turned out to be one I appreciated. Furthermore, the animation was beautifully done and a joy to watch.

Halfway through making this image I was actually tempted to give up. I've had a bad behavior of abandoning or settign aside projects without finishing them, so I've got a whole collection of images and things that are only partial sketches, or sketches that are partially inked. The thing is, that I have been letting my insecurities get the best of me. I feared that after spending hours of hard work, the finished product would end up being crap, and my work would be in vain. The same kind of fear sometimes keeps me from attempting to color things by hand... But if I never try then I'll never improve. I cannot expect myself to preform without any flaws. And even when I do mess up, many great things started out as fantastic mistakes.

Oh yeah, and I decided to finally name the skunk. I call him "Ashton". :)

The scenery looks nice. Except for the waterfall. The waterfall looks like it has gaps in it.

Hmm, I thought it made it look more realistic. Water kind of seperates when it falls, right?

Risp_old
Mar 7, 2004, 05:48 AM
Yes, but if it meets rocks in the falls. This looks like the water is seperating around invisible rocks.

I have to agree with Rips. And the character is nicely drawn also.

Furré!

The Waterfall looks incredibly well done. It's a thin waterfall, and that's what happens. It does get clear in patches due to the water trying to form spheres when it falls, so it combines in some parts.

And the scenery is excellent. Except the tree looks a bit..."flat"

The skunk looks very nice, very buff and stuff.

You really shouldn't waste these pictures on a crappy msn community...you should get these high-quality anthro images on a furnation account. ^_^

Long Live <s> Hare's skunk guy </s> Ashton!!!

A cool name and a great pic.

Yeah, I used to do that animal thing as a kid, but it was mostly pretending to be my favorite TV characters. I spent a quarter of my childhood acting like Big Bird, and another third acting like Donald Duck.

Infinite Spaz, that galloping green thing in your sig. is scary beyond all reason o.o

Oh, and I've got my own webspace now, so I rarely use my MSN site anymore. More acurately, a friend is sharing his domain with me :), which really rocks. As for Furnation, I don't really feel any need to jump into an artist community thing. I used to think it would be really cool to get onto Yerf, but then I realized that I only wanted that because I fealt it was kind of like a status symbol. I belive my work is now at the level where I'd be accepted, but I don't really want to be on Yerf.

I made another colored pencil image today... actually I made 2, but I gave one of them to a family member. This one features one of my latest characters, who I also recently named. Its the cooking fanatic I showed in the art forum earlier, enjoying the new mobile revolution of the 21st century. Oh yeah. I named her Amy.

http://purrhead.thj.no/Full_Color/amy-mobile.jpg

There's no shading in this one. I noticed while watching Disney's "The Emperor's New Groove", that the characters didn't have any shading. And I thought about this, and thought about how I don't feel my character's seem to look right without shading when they are colored on the computer. I wanted to try another shot at coloring something without shading it, to see how it turns out. I guess it looks okay.

Oh yeah, and I updated my profile, so my homepage link in the forums will now lead to my current website. Appears it was still linking to my communities site, before.

That point is debatable.

And.. *hugs Amy*
She has the same name as my cat. Innit nifty. =3

Thanks for the comments everyone. :) I'm glad the name, "Ashton" is agreed with. I was kind of hoping I'd get a fitting name for him, looks like I succeeded.

*boink!* (another image appears)

Even with the sword lodged in the ground like that, I don't think that pose is blanced. I even tried it... I kept swinging around sideways and hurting myself. The last image of him had the same misbalance, so maybe the character just seretly has "spiderman feet". Coloring still looks real nice.

Rad's right, the character isn't balanced. Try placing him in a more upright posture or something ... I dunno, it just looks like his body is farther back from his feet, he's gonna fall over or something.

Ever heard of something called an "Action Shot" before?

Coppertop
Mar 9, 2004, 12:53 PM
If it was an action pose, the sword would probably be in the air or something, not stuck in the ground, and the positioning of the feet would likely be different. I noticed the same thing in this thread (http://www.jazz2online.com/jcf/showthread.php?t=9996) as well.

Maybe he's rushing over to the sword in the ground? Like he just landed there and he's tugging the sword out?

He did. (http://groups.msn.com/purrhead/unfinishedpeices.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=244)I mean something of quality as his other work.

It wasn't a challenge, btw, it was a genuine request out of curiosity to see what it would look like.

Kind of sad that my entire human collection can be displayed in once little post. I'm thinking of drawing more human stuff actually. I really don't want to be classified as a dedicated furry artist, anyways.

I'm actually probably better at drawing humans than animals. I can draw freakishly realistic when I'm trying. The problem with real things, though, is a photograph is easier =P.

I'd think he'd be in a more agressive posture then - his feet would be moving or something.

Tick: I know :)

I'm not one for furry art, but your art is amazing. Especially the shading and such. Everything has a very nice smooth 3D look.

Also, I have noticed the same thing about the posings. They seem to be falling backwards.

I wanted to be classified as a lumberjack...

To tell you the truth, Hare, I agree with you.

I mean, what ever happened to just plain Funny Animals? Thats what I like to have my stuff classified as...

Infinite Spaz, that galloping green thing in your sig. is scary beyond all reason o.o

Thanks! That was my aim. And look, it's taken over 2 other peoples sigs too!

Anyway, I just noticed something. The head on the original image is massive! It's the size of his whole upper body. But otherwise, nothing more.

@Amy Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, innitcuite? Anyway, she must be very strong to lug that stove around in a wagon. Otherwise, nothing I can point out without seriously looking at the image.
