I've had MSNM running for a while as of late, and I don't want it running. I believe I made a fix, but I don't quite know...
See, the next problem is that it's taken over. And I don't want it running anymore. Whenever I right click on the icon in the taskbar which isn't there at all, but when I "call it out" I can't exit it. It just says "There are other applications currently using features provided by Windows Messenger. You must close these other applications before you can exit Windows Messenger. These applications may include Outlook, Outlook Express, MSN Explorer, and Internet Explorer."
HELP!!!

For some reason, MSN Messenger refuses to close even when those listed programs are not running.
Please include information about your system (operating system most specifically) next time you post any technical question. Luckily, this operation requires no specific OS, assuming it's not Win2k.
Go to your start menu, and then run. Type in "msconfig". Go to the "startup" tab and uncheck the box next to "msnmsgr." Press OK.
Hope this helps.

ah! this old problem
I know exactly sorta how to fix it ^^
k what you do is go to your desktop, then press in this order (not simultaniously) alt+ctrl+del ONLY ONCE!!!11
Then select MSN Messenger and click end talk. You might have to do this process quite a few times, but this exits MSN Messenger.
Hope this has helped ^^

What isn't there? MSN Messenger's listing? Are you sure? Look for something pointing to C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsngr.exe, with C: being whatever drive it is that you defaultly use.

It wasn't there...but seemingly I must have done something right since it's not popping up...
Except AIM popped up before and I don't know about that, but that's easily killed. n.n

this seems like its not MSN to me... either some kind of trojan pretending to be MSN or something else bad... ok follow this and if you skrew up dont blame me...
search: MSN
note all file names that popped up from your search on a peice of paper.
stripe out all non *.exe
press START
press RUN
type: regedit or regedt32, this seems to vary a bit, I beleave its the second one in winXP
press enter
press F3 button type in RUN and press enter
wait til you find a folder called "RUN" if you dont find it in first case press F3 again until you find it.
delete all keys that point to MSN in the folder "run"
now click search in the top bar of regedit and search and type in the filename you found using the normal search. remove those too from there, but be carefull, only the MSNMSNGR.exe ones, no other!!!!111 else you will kil your computer or at least the internet of the computer!! }>}>}> i think its that but i'm not sure and only do this if you trust me... }>
