Hmmm... Just found a old CDr with a BETA version of Jazz Jackrabbit 2(BETA 2, version 1.00). As far as I know, I'm the only one with this version. What makes this version interesting is that is is the only version with a level-editor(Creation Station 1.00) that is capable of editing Battery Check levels. If anyone's interested I'll upload the editor.

anyway... that was my first post/thread here ;)

I must say, that is an interesting find.

Legality is an issue though.

Interesting. So the main difference between Battery Check and Jazz 2 .j2l files is that Battery Check ones are outdated? That makes sense.

How different is the beta from the more typical OEM? How different from the full version (1.20, 1.23, whichever)? How is the JCS different? Anything cool?

I have never seen a level editor with any OEM version. Well, I have seen MLLE but that was for the really old uncompressed *.LEV files.

I just tried to import Battery Check levels in Jazz 1.00 and vice-versa. Importing BC levels in JJR actually worked, but the sprite palette is screwed up. Importing JJR 1.00 levels in BC was a bit more tricky. I had to replace the events, because BC crashes if a level contains an unsupported event. So I replaced all events, except Jazz Level Start, with 1up barrels(which are enemies in BC). Though, there're also palette problems in BC when using JJR tiles. Of course, there're no problems if you're using the BC tiles in homemade BC levels.

I lost my 1.23/1.24 versions of JJR (someone's willing to hook me up?), so I can't compare them head-to-head with the BETA 2 version. But the BETA version simply isn't finished. Some music is missing(when Jazz is hyper), autorun function doesn't work, some levels aren't finished etc.

Anyway, here's the Jazz Creation Studio 1.00..
jcs.zip [355kb] (http://www.euronet.nl/~mogroproducties/jcs.zip)

No Jazz 1.00 levels or tiles included so it'll probably only work with Battery Check for most of you

Sounds kinda interesting, I kinda like the messd up sprite look. Especially when I saw the psych elvel screenshots, it just goes so well together.

Just look at the select event screen. That's kind of cool :-).

Wait wait wait. How did you get a review version?

My mother worked for a Dutch computermagazine. They built this version especially for that magazine(other magazines received BETA 1 or he retail version), so that's why I'm probably the only one with an editor that works with Battery Check...

I am aware I'm now reviving a 2 year old thread.

Is there still anyone with this version, or screenshots, around? I were pretty amazed to see this. Sorry for revival ppl.

in the ERE is said, that this 1.10o version is extremely unstable. Wouldn't be a very good idea to use such a version as a press release, imo

Considering it's the only one of the three betas that has Online multiplayer, i'd say it's the perfect press release.

I think you're going to get a warning. Both of you.

...and, to keep this post useful, I'll say you definitely should not have bumped this.

Not a warning, but I do have a kind request for both Jerry and Cooba to stop fighting.

And I agree with minmay. If you don't have anything useful to say, please let this topic die in peace.

I would want to have 1.10o, I am actually wondering, how it looked, what differences are there, I heard that it's unstable. And yes I know this thread is 11 years old... :)

I had original Demo version which I lost back in 2008. But anyway, I found a difference with Full version and Demo:

When you touch the smokes of caterpillar in the demo version and get dizzy: the screen hue changes continuously in a smooth fading way. But I never saw this in Full version [I can't remember about original Full version as I lost it and now I've a downloaded copy].

Edit: Sorry for reviving an old thread, but I find no reason to make a thread for only one simple thing.

SAMI, it does that in 8-bit color in the full version, but not 16-bit.

Battery Check! That brings up memories. Too bad the game was so short.
