View Full Version : My screen is killing my ears.

I got a new screen recently, and a few minutes ago, it began emitting a horrible, ear-penetrating beep.
My ears are going to die a horribly painful death if this doesn't stop. =P
Anyone know what could cause this?

first I need some more info:
- Have you got music playing? Had you got music on earlier?
- Do others hear that beep too?
because sometimes the beep isnt actually there, sometimes its just something that your brain does when it is very silent in a room.

If the problem is not in your head, its in the screen, but I dont know what part of the sreen would be making the noise.

Well, I do have music playing, but it didn't stop when I paused it, either...
And the beep IS coming from the screen, it dissappears when I turn it off.

As in a very high tone? Does anyone else hear it?

There probably isn't much you can do about it anyway. Maybe it's something faulty with just that monitor, so you could get a replacement, or you'll need to get a new model.

Or.. have you tried changing the resolution or refresh rate?

Yes, high-pitched, no, not a tinitus, unless it's this rather rare kind that temporarily dissappears when a screen is shut off.
*sigh*
Looks like I'll really have to exchange it for another..

See what happens when you put it in another room and turn it on there.

Crap. It's impossible. The sound on my computer is pronouncing an annoying noise, what should I do to stop it? Yes, I tried to disconnect it and connect it again, it didn't work. I hear something like: "beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep".

When I first hooked up my new computer (And a subwoofer), I heard a small crackling noise, but I can't hear it anymore. Maybe it's your power source?

I am shocked that no one has even mentioned the possibility of a PC Speaker yet. DUH!!

Try muting your computer (removing the PC Speaker). If that doesn't work, it could be a feature with the monitor. What model is it? Look for an FAQ. Your problem will probably be answered there.

If the aforementioned do not work, try solving this yourself. What else does it do when the beeping occurs (E.g. Automatic Degaussing)? Maybe a cord is loose. Maybe it just needs to be thrown out a second- or third-story window.

Consider these.

This is common it means your screen is going to explode. I am on my third screen for this computer now.

Hey, piccolo,
sounds like the monitor is dying a slow and painful death---
it is emitting what is known as the monitor whistle of death.
Is it still under waranty, or just an old one from the garage?
You can still use it, but if you smell anything funny, or a change in pitch, then either kill the power to it, or run for your life, for the fire extinguisher ;)
Seriously, though. be careful, and try to get it replaced. I had an old monitor that started doing that, and then the lines of pixels began to jump left and right for more than an inch! (That's when I decides to get a new one.)
Do you hear any crackling noises when it powers up?
What brand is it?

...oops.
I'm sorry.. I more or less forgot to mention that the problem has somehow.. solved itself. ^^;
In other words, the beeping stopped. *shrugs*
But thank you a lot anyways. *bows*

yeh that happend to me, our old monitor made that same horrible hi pitch scretching sound everytime the screen went in to a reselution of 640x480 and it hurt my ears so much. A few weeks later it litrally blew up and smoke came out the back of it, I would take it back and get another as soon as you can.
