View Full Version : Eli and Toca - United We Stand

I recently was inspired by watching a few episodes of Cowboy Bebop (the show is a wonderful work of art), and there was a scene where Spike and this other guy (aparently and old friend of his) were in a gunfight, and they did this really cool pose (which I used as a referance for this image). It was prety cool because it was very poetic in its style. It reminds me of how it is sometimes in online games when I would team up with someone and we'd dominate the server ^_^. Those victories are always a rush. Its good to watch eachother's backs, and cooperative play is always a blast.

The sword on the right may be a bit confusing to understand, since you can't really see Eli's right arm. Both characters have dual weapons, just Toca's head is blocking the way so you can't see that the sword is being held by Eli.

I used my old (and lower quality) shading style in this image because I didn't feel like spending a whole lot of time doing coloring. Still looks prety good though.

Oh yeah, and Radium, I cleaned out my inbox and tried to send you a PM to tell you... but now YOUR inbox is too full. *chuckles*

That pose looks uncomfortable. In fact, it looks like Eli has only one arm and Toca is holding the sword in her mouth.

That's one of those pictures where the sketch usually is better than the colouring. ;p

Tocatail!

okay...the picture is good, but you might want to "Expand" the picture. Like...what are Eli and Toca "standing up" to.

Oh pleeeaaaaase, guuuys. Tsk.
The picture is wonderful!

Risp, if you were fighting for your life, would you really care for the comfortability of the way you move? =P
And what's supposed to be wrong with the coloring? It has very defined lighting, which is good since everything seems to be dark except for that spotlight.

Only the ground illuminated by the spotlight looks kinda weird. =P
And they don't have shadows.
That's all for criticism.

Well, let's get right to it.

Toca looks just fine, nothing I can see. But Eli is a different story. As the routine normall goes, I attempt to go into the same pose that he went into, and man, that hurt my right leg, the one that Eli has all streched out. IMO it'd be a lot more comfortable if he had is knee touching the ground. And now, onto the main point dealing with the sword.

I can't exactly tell which way his hand (the one that is grabbing the handle) is oriented, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt seeing as one of the directions would be impossible ;(. But otherwise in theory, it's fine. But it's just too busy right there. When you look at it, like risp said, it looks like Toca's got it in her mouth.

My time has been cut short.

And Faw, it's art. You're supposed to criticize it so that he'll improve.

Well, durrh. I know that. I just don't like things being criticized if I don't think they are wrong. It's that simple.

Que Passa!!!!

Personally, with the sword thing, I didn't notice it until I read that comment, and to me, I can see the hand so it looks like she bit someones hand off while they were holding a sword, if anything like that.

Otherwise, I really think this looks cool!

Oy, when'd they drop the PM limit to 50? *kicks JCF*

The sword looks confusing because you can't see Eli's arm. It should be partially visible between his left ear and Toca's left hand.

Apart from the confusing arm, the picture looks very nice. Faw's right, though, about the shadow. Personally, I think it'd look a lot more dramatic if the white ring on the bottom was the light source (the slang term for this is "light from hell").

Thanks guys for the crit guys. All very good stuff. Yeah, Xion, I was planning on putting shadowy figures in the background, and I guess I must have forgotten to ink Eli's right arm. I love your idea of lighting from below, Rad. Yeah, Eli's pose needs work (I made the excuse that perhaps its a mid-action shot and he's in the middle of moving), and I'd have to say that the sword would look better if the camera angle rotated and you could see how everything fits together. And thanks for sticking up for me Faw, but I can do that quite nicely myself. ^_^

If someone were to cuss this picture up and down I wouldn't relly be offended. If someone were to make a major fuss saying that the sky is green, why should that hurt my feelings? Okay, it may make me prety mad if he started oppressing "blue sky infidels", but still, the guy needs l life. This would be no different. Even if that person were to say negative things that were true, the point still stands. "why is this so important? Nobody cares. And frankly, last time I checked, drawing poorly still is not a criminal offense equal to eating people's children." As for everyone's constructive criticism, thanks. I appreciate it... Except for Moonblaze, because you pointed out that the sketch was better than the coloring job but didn't give any pointers on how to make the colored pic look more like a sketch ;).

What if life were Cel-shaded? or sprites! That'd be cool.

Ya know, I've actually wondered about that very thing. I figured it is possible with special glasses hooked up to a small portable computer. Back then I also wondered if these glasses could make it look like everyone was actually a furry... this technology should never fall into the hands of a fanboy... Heaven help us all, the clean up of that disaster would be worse than a dozen 3 mile islands combined.

Something close to that could be accomplished by some kind of glasses that displayed everything in 16 colors and 320x240 resolution. Actually, that would be REALLY fun. Reading and whatnot would kind of suck, but it'd be fun so it wouldn't matter.

Aww you de-sigged me DDD=. And Fanboys/girls are usually mostly harmless. That is unless you give them something to promoted to fanaticism. Then they are a force to make the whole world quake in fear.

Don't laugh...but I actually have an idea of a portable wrist amulet that can change people's forms into anything...anthropomorphic animals, different races, different strengths, different looks...Genetic hacking.

I spoke this idea with krez.

I already explained why this wouldn't work. Technology that can modify things at this level could be easily altered to allow people to turn everyday objects into things like weapons, money, or even living beings. People and things could be stored and copied like computer files, and next thing you know:
YOsama15 is sending file: C:/terrorism/bombs/Nukes.gne
Castro_Communist has successfully recieved C:/downloads/Nukes.gne
Castro_Communist: Muy bien! Gracias!=D
Castro_Communist: Voy destruir los Estados Unidos ahora.

And then, the world ends the day your "gene amulet" is invented.

Impossible. You can't magically change your genetic makeup and have it go to work instantly. Besides, your brain wouldn't know how to work with new limbs and re adjust to all of that jazz.
