View Full Version : Debate: Fake Health

Recently I hosted a duel between Green Plant and sAlAmAnDeR in battle1 (Sal won 15-4 or something). While at 2-9 Sal got roasted by Green Plant , Sal complained about Green's 3rd point because it was a 5hk, then Green refered to himself as having a 5hk earlier. Sal now deemed the score to be 8-2 for him instead of 9-3 seems fair right? thing is, in lots of duels or other matches 3hk's, 4hk's or 5hk's go unnoticed or someone would complain about it then continue on with the duel or other type of match. I personally don't mind them; especialy if it's in a duel that doesn't count for anything and you'd likely forget about in a week or sooner.
I just basicly ignore them and would rather not annoyingly stop the duel or any other match because of one trivial fake health death. It's a little annoying hearing other players complain of this all the time and in some cases, even lie about it(Better keep track of your opponenets health if you want to play duels the way Sal and Green did in their duel). And often times because they just got a fake carrot, grabbed it after the other player did.
Another annoying bug in JJ2 I do take into consideration is getting one heart when you're shot just right at your spawning place when you spawn, your blinking won't even protect you from it. A lot of players use this to their advantage and it's really quite irritating, especialy in levels like Distopia and DW which are only small levels with restricted playing zones (zones which players choose to play in while ingoring other remote places in the level) only have , oh, wait, is that why so many players like thoose level so much?
Am I whining? maybe, but I'm just posting this topic to ask if you think constantly stoping a duel and reseting the score is really necessary?

No, it's not neccasary, because people lie.
For example, I once hosted a duel between an anonymous person and FS in which the anonymous person complained of a 5HK every time he was roasted.

I get (messed up) in duels when my lag clone gets stomped though. Its fun stomping clones in a public battle server and stuff, but in serious duels it gets annoying because you can barely avoid it and it takes no skill; all the other player has to do is just keep stomping your clone while you cant evade it in any way. Sucks.

I think the best thing to do is to treat fake health kills like normal kills. People lie, and besides the damage is done whether the person knows it is there or not. Sure, if you are at five lives, you're in trouble, but this is a price that must be paid.
Although this can be caused by RF's, lag is also a factor. If this was caused exclusively by lag, you may want to consider whether the duel is too lagged to be valid anyway.

It is most commonly caused by RFs which hurt you from radius blast - this will usually hurt but not actually remove health until later. But in general, JJ2 sends player data and health information over the UDP protocol which does not guarantee that the client receives information. This will occur and we can not stop it. Deal with it.

Roast is a roast. In the real life battles are often unfair too.

A duel is not the same thing as a battle. Duels are suppost to be balanced in that the only difference between the competetors is their skill (i.e. nobody has a firepower advantage). Battles are not.
That being said, I don't really care about this issue due to my lack of being able to play JJ2 online.

I totally agree.

As a lot of people said earlier: some people tend to lie about it, so continuing the fight without further delay is probably the best thing to do. Or they say "Wait, fake 3", when they really have 1 and get the carrot ;-P

^-- The lag of oberserver/replay options in jj2 is what grants players the ability to cheat like that.Roast is a roast. In the real life battles are often unfair too. This isn't life. Sorry to break it to you, it's a game. What would the ideal with playing be if the game was unfair towards one of the players? Five hearth kills, which can happen, are an extremely broken point in the game, and one of the reasons to I stopped playing. (Rather, it's a piece of fecal matter)
If you really want to compare it to life, then how would you survive a blaster shot with no armor?

I heard that "realism" is what makes the game better.

If it's from lag I usually just keep on playing--the other person's probably getting it too, and I'll have to put up with it for the rest of the game anyway. A lot of players will stop the duel in the case of fake health from fake carrots and RFs, however--it's pretty easy to tell when someone has fake hearts in those cases (just shoot the person complaining). Since that works both ways, I'm amenable enough to killing the other player and letting them capture the flag again. 3HK's are annoying, after all.
(It's just nicer to say you have fake health before you die, not after.)

3hk and 5hk are always annoying, especially if you are duelling an opponent of equal skills. 3hks and 5hks can make the difference between victory and defeat then. :(
The host rarely experiences fake health (if he does it at all, I don't know), which is also unfair. It isn't right to complain and stop a duel because of fake health, but maybe, just to be fair, both ppl should duel in each others servers? :)
Also, what JSZ Jazz said is right. And in real life battles, ppl get roasted for real, (if you'll excuse me for using such a light term for death).
