View Full Version : International meeting 2005

The SlaYeR
Jul 4, 2004, 02:52 PM
I posted this a little earlyer so that we can all have a good talk about it, it's important because this meeting might become a bit more expensive then the last three.

We are planning to go on a vacation, the whole lot of us for a week. Go camping somewhere in 'de Ardennen' a nice place in Belgium. There's will be lots of things we could do there, rowing, play a game of soccer or just visit Brussels for a day. Things like that, just a nice and relaxing vacation for a week.

This is the idea for the next meeting, post your comments.

The good news is, oh yes, Im coming :D
and it sounds a good idea :) buttttt

If we do that, we will be DISCONNECTED FROM THE WORLD :((((

Very interesting, but can cost a lot of money. Oh well, a good organisation is one thing. And the concept is interesting, as I mentioned earlier. Especially now we know eachother better in real life such things would be interesting.

HI.

In other words...COUNT ME IN! This sounds great :D. Like a loooooooooot of fun. And the money...we're all getting older, so I think until then we can all sacrifice a few days of our lives for jobs - so we can spend a great week together there :)

I think it's a good idea. The most should be able to make the money within a short period unless they have other big expenses, and most of us don't have those.

Like you, Danyjel.

Oh, and unless by some coincidence I get to go to Europe, i'm probably not coming. I want a USA meeting ;(((

Please stay on-topic. Talk about the US meeting can be found in another thread in this forum. Please only post when you have something related to say about this meeting and coming to it. We know most Americans, Japanese, Brazillians and Australians won't come, that's not the point of this thread.

I'm definitely coming.

The dates will be pretty important. I'll be working over the summer, so it should be pretty near the end or the start of my holidays. But my end-of-year exam dates are unpredictable, as is the start of term date for the year after. I'll ask at the uni in a few month's time. A few week's padding shouldn't be too bad, as the trip (whenever it is) will be during my holiday in Luxembourg.

This meeting will be the easiest-to-get-to yet. In fact, d'you know which other country the Ardennes (*cough*) run into? ;)

Sounds like fun indeed. I certainly intend to be there, though it's kind of hard to tell without a date.

Well, its a good idea.
I don't know if i'll come...
I'm going to Belgium with some CCers this year.
I will come if I know some people better.
I don't really like to go when I don't really know the guys.
I am in right now, but it can change.

My brother(Shadow RR) and I are going to Europe to trek for all of sumer 2005. If we play our cards right, maybe we can hit you all up for a day or two. I would love it... I'll have some input when the summer gets nearer about what time in the summer, where we'll be when, etc etc.
(God knows, anyway, the feminine Jazz face is lacking in the meetings.;))

I won't participate. I mean, i really like you, most of you, but one week is a bit too much in my opinion :-)
I hope there will be a nice little one-day-meeting in 2005, too (best would be in the NL). I really like to see you all again, because the first three meetings were real fun :-)

The SlaYeR
Jul 8, 2004, 04:34 AM
Aiko, the plan was that if people would find it to long they could just stay over for one or two days.

Ducky
Jul 8, 2004, 06:55 AM
Oh, Aiko, I'm dying to meet you, really. I'D only be coming for a day or two, anyway, probably only staying one night before we set out again! Come on....

Kewl idea, but I agree with Vegito, I hardly know you guys and to join you for a holiday then... I dunno, I don't mind to come one day, maybe two, but a whole week would be to much.
But again, nice idea!

I just want to say, about that 2005 meeting, I've discussed this with one of my parents and their response was that I could come depending on whether if I am busy next summer or not, and depending on the prices of tickets. ;P So If I am not busy and the prices of tickets are fair and such, I could come. But not too sure yet(Since I haven't discussed this with my dad yet..heh.). ;P

Just had to say that. Although I've got a coupe of questions 'bout this..
Well, which would be the easier way to get to Belgium? London to Belg, or London to NL and then Belg?;/ (I just have never been in any of those places except for staying 1 day at London in 2000.) And in meetings, do you usually book planes(meaning as if someone books them all) or something like that, or do we have to book them?
(Meh..sorry for noob questions.)

But honestly, I'm looking forward to that 2005 meeting, and that's it if I could come depending on the things listed above. Soo..yeah.

We're already going to do this in two weeks with a group of CC'ers, in "de Ardennen" too (*sues the idea-stealers*). Would be too expensive and boring to do the same thing twice, so count me out I guess ;(. Although I'd like to hear the price first, before I make the final verdict.

go global!

I d rather spend 3 or 5 days somewhere oversea with some cheap airlines which will certainly offer oversea flights next year and find some cheap place to live

<strike>like camping in some jazzer's garden</strike>

something like that =D

Or provide some programm where american ppl can come to us.
Needs some good management that not either all european ppl or american ppl have to pay everything for the flight. :7

I also think belgium is .. dunno. I mean people don't speak neccessarily english but french. but on the other hand brussel is the EU capital :D.

Well, go global !!!

hmms sounds great. I'd love 2 come for a day, or 2, or 3. But uhm, is august an option?
Cuz I always go vacationing with parents in july... I'm just asking since I suppose most of u would rather have it at any other date rather than august... Good idea and all though(btw what about cooking in camps? I suck when it comes 2 cooking:), does anybody volunteer 2 be my personal cook?)

The SlaYeR
Sep 3, 2004, 05:17 AM
We already had the idea of going global, but most people wont be able to make it and i want to offer them a chance of seeing their friends as well, which is why there might be two meetings, for the Europeans that don't have the money or are not allowed to go to the states.

That'd be fun Crazyrabbit, but the meeting will be held in Europe.

Oh and before any of you start saying "An international meeting in Europe!" What's wrong with that? There is no difference between holding an international meeting in Europe or the states, the same amount of people would have travelling to do, so thanks in advance for not saying something dumb like that :)

Risp_old
Oct 21, 2004, 02:48 AM
It's just absurd to call a meeting an international meeting if the only people likely to come are Europeans. A true international meeting would have to involve a lot of expensive plane tickets and travel time.

Hello people, here's some info.

I decided it would be better if the meeting took only 3 or 4 days instead of a week and would take place somewhere in Limburg, the Netherlands.
The location will be confirmed at a later date since i need some time took seek out a good location for this meeting to take place.
Limburg is excellent for a survival or walks and picknicks.
And we can all bring one of those cute huge backpacks with a sleeping bag and stuff in them and have a great time out in the wild. Limburg has excellent cultural stuff like ancient castles for us to watch (if your interested in that) and also has amazing nature (if you go to the right places.)
I thought that most of you might like that idea better because it involves less travelling for most of us and it is a shorter period of time. (for those who think that a week is to long.) If people want to they can just come for a day or sleep over for a day or whatever, just make sure to let me know in time.
All of you Americans are welcome as well :)
Keep checking back from time to time for some more information.

Perhaps you could arrange a meeting in Poland some year. I'm not polish but I live quite close to it, or not so...anyways it's half of the distance from here to there instead of somewhere in Belgium. Whatever, it might help me only personally, but don't forget Sasik, etc. who live there. :p

Most jazzers are either in Europe or North America... to make it fair we could always build an artificial island in the middle of the North Atlantic... ;P

No, let's keep it to Europe like Slayo wanted it. I don't have much to say here because I don't intend to come (I'm too lazy to cross the Channel and too paranoid to go on holiday with jazzers I know so well...erm, yeah that made sense ;P)) although I could add some things that you could do apart from what Slayo mentioned such as:

1. If you ever get bored, play JJ2. Splitscreen party mode is way more fun than playing online because you're actually WITH your opponent. Get some gamepads or quarrel over the teeny tiny laptop keyboard. :D Play JJ1 too. It's much harder than JJ2 and you could always be nerdy and see who got the highest score or completed the lvl/episode/game in the shortest time. Of course, make sure that you do not make JJ the focus of the whole meeting, or you might as well have stayed at home.

2. Take goofy pictures for me and don't forget to sign them! ;)

3. Go skiing. I'm not sure whether it is possible to do so in the Ardennes during summer-time. I doubt many ppl want to go all the way to France or Switzerland just to ski. Anyway, skiing is probably not what Slayo had intended (plus you need Swiss VISAs because it's not in the EU, which means even more money spent [let's invade Swizterland and turn it into a satellite state! j/k]).

4. Re-enact the 1944 Ardennes offensive and make money off it to pay for your travel bills. Or maybe not.

I'd also like to add to my post a reminder that, so far, absolutely nothing concerning the date has been decided nor of prices. But what do I care... I just want your signed pictures. :p

EDIT: Turned out Slayo has changed his mind about the Ardennes. Skiing and historical re-enactments just went out the window.

Bungalows may turn out not to be so bad if we split the whole costs thing, in which case it would be nice to know what bungalows you're thinking of and how much it would cost. Tents would be ok too though (but I'd pity people who get stuck in the same tent as me if we have to share).

And do tell why there are PKK guys wandering around on campings in Limburg.
