View Full Version : JJ2 Death Clock

Here's a really stupid topic, that I just thought of now...when do you think JJ2 will finally die?

Eh, since I have no clue at all, I'll give it 5 years from now. That being 2009.

No one get offended, that I want the game to die or anything, this is just a silly topic, anyway I know the list servers are owned now, but do you think the owner will give it up and let the game die?

Trafton
Jul 26, 2004, 08:06 PM
There's really no way to know, or estimate. Of course, it's going to happen eventually - computers will die eventually, obviously.

Tubz
Jul 26, 2004, 08:12 PM
^^^

Umm, and you think in 2006, that computers will die? Well anyway, if that even happens, that's not the point. When will the game die, hehe...

If computers die, I don't count that as a reason for JJ2 dying, since it was a computer malfunction, not a community abandon, or no care for the game anymore type reason.

My guess is Nimrod will probably get tired of maintaining the nimrod-online serverlist in 4 years at the most. Contrabandent will probably be offline in 5 years or so, or at least just not as stable. I wouldn't be surprised if in several years someone comes out of nowhere with a brand new serverlist for this game. I doubt JJ2 will die within in the next 5 years since new players are still coming to this game for one reason or another. Go figure.

FireSworD
Jul 26, 2004, 08:34 PM
Dying soon? hahaha, actually this game might not be as active as I heard it was back in early '98 - '99, but aspects like JDC are becoming more popular with each season and new players are still coming. Even if no new players arrive, I think it would still take at least 3 years for the games' community as a whole to lose intrest in the game.

Never, for the same reasons Flash mentioned. We seem to be active enough to post new topics about jj2's death every few months, so that sort of counts as being alive.

Doubble Dutch
Jul 27, 2004, 02:46 AM
Well, according to the death clock itself and given JJ2 stats, it will die on july the 19th 2089.

RockyR

i don't know
The longevity has been really well maintained to this point.
I think a key was that nothing ever replaced Jazz2,
such as, Jazz3. So we have to stick around, and we also don't mind.
It is an easy game to keep playing.
Really very much so.

Nimrod
Jul 27, 2004, 06:39 AM
Nimrod may get bored of Administrating the List Server.

But now remote administration can be down externally from Digiex, other people can just take over my job.

And as long as digiex continues to get paying customers for server hosting, and continues to stay alive, ill keep the List Server up.

Stillmatic, I meant that when do you think this game will die. Meaning, when list servers will finally be kept up by people. No more list servers. Not at all do I mean, the community, just the game.

blurredd
Jul 27, 2004, 05:16 PM
That is a semi-vague definition. What if the list servers somehow last forever or even without anyone maintaining them?

Tubz

That is a semi-vague definition. What if the list servers somehow last forever or even without anyone maintaining them?

You dream too much.

Well anyway BlurredD, so you don't have to reply to this again. If that did happen, were ignoring the fact that that can happen. And just assuming a normal list server death.

blurredd
Jul 27, 2004, 05:25 PM
Perhaps, but that doesn't mean it's not possible for the list servers to last longer than 10 years w/o any maintenance.

Nimrod

Nebula has created a list server application, even if both Contranbandent and myself, and monolith and link all went, other people could take over and become list servers..

It was indeed a dark day. Still, you've got to wonder, is JJ1 dead, or is there some pathetic community out there somewhere with less than a dozen members. Maybe they're discussing when JJ1 will die...

I would doubt that since JJ1 wasn't a multiplayer game and you couldn't make new levels with it. Enjoy your dream.

Sometimes I wonder if there's a whole other internet that we don't know about. And someday, someone will unite the two and there will be great hacker wars.

I don’t give JJ2 more than 3-4 years. I think it is optimistic vision. JJ2 will die, when J2o will die =P Epic doesn’t care about this game. It hastens end of jj2….
If we want to extend jj2`s live, we need more JDC Seasions in year, also we should start JJ2 Ladder on ClanBase. Only if still new people will be starting playing JJ2, the game will be alive. So, some people should stop frighten newbies ;p

Nimrod is obsessed with the list servers and is unlikely to let them die. Even when Digiex does shut down, there will be plenty of other people who can create a list server. JJ2 is in no danger from that field.

Although I wasn't right back then, I think that the idea of permanent ladder helped a lot this community to survive. Now the online gaming does not base only on j2o/jdc anymore and jj.net plays important role in keeping the game active.
