Who's your best boss? Devan Shell? The witch from the demo? The Queen? Vote in this poll! :7

P.S Bilsy's in the poll because he's in JAZZ 2 HH98,

Witch is not a boss.

...as I recall, Uterus with Tuf and Bilsy are my favorite finale baddies.

Also, Bilsy was in 1.23, which was before HH98.

Schwartzenguard, but JJ1 bosses 0WN JJ2 bosses.

JJ2 Schwarzenguard owns entire Marbelara, Dutchie.

Hardtana

Marbelara was always a tough challenge with the dragoons and Schwartzenguards:)

But I always had the most of the troubles with Devil Devan, until I figured out how to beat him by jumping around instead of just standing like I did with the giant Ninja rabbit in JJ1.

The beach one. When I first played JJ2 (OEM version), the green part didn't open up. Later, when I got 1.21, I saw it open for the first time (not expecting it) and it scared the heck out of me =P. He does look really freaky.

Giant Eye (bolly) is cool because it's basically a Sonic the Hedgehog boss with an eyeball instead of dr. Robotnik. It's kind of tough to beat. Shoots rockets. You can smash its big chain with a jump or kick, which is neet. Devil devan is just plain weird. I'm not sure why he could suddenly turn into a huge dragon. You'd think he'd have done that earlier. Maybe there was going to be an explanation.

Yes, the jazz 1 bosses were much more weird, though, like Devan on the ostrich, which was great, or the rabbit-eating plant. The enemies were more unique too though, so oh well. I'm not sure what made them make the jazz 2 enemies more mainstreem and basic, while at the same time they could do a lot more. (ie the turtles dodge bullets and hide in their shells, and bite) The bees in jazz 1 were way cooler movement wise.

Bolly had PAIR of eyeballs. Also, by saying 'rabbit eating plant' I assume you think about Jungrock boss? That one is a raptor.

I don't know. Witch actually isn't a boss. Well, the JJ2 bosses aren't the most challenging stuff in JJ2. You can make a level much more challenging with enemies and other stuff. If you use an endboss, be sure you put it into the right environment, or you may put some enemies to help the boss because otherwise it can happen that the boss which should in a normal game be a highlight is the easier part of the level. It does just depend how you place it. You can't say what boss is harder. If you don't know what I mean, long time ago I played a single player pack with a secret beach level in it. It had a pit with water in it, a lot of respawning enemies, no ammo and a uterus (the crab from episode 2). Heck, I just wasn't able to defeat that guy. Hope that helped you a bit.

You are kind of missing the names. Here, I'll help.

Devan's Robot: Superbot.
The Witch: Wasn't her name Hazel or something? I don't remember. Anyway, she's not a boss.
Big Crab: Uterus.
Giant Eye: Bolly. It's actually a spark enemy in a metal machine, not just an eye.

Bilsy was in JJ2, not just HH98. I'm not really sure how Devan gained the ability to turn into a demon, but I suppose it has something to do with his being able to direct the inhabitants of the inferno and send them against his enemies.

cooba
Jul 30, 2004, 12:27 PM
I bet it has to do something with Bilsy and Bubba. Demon Belsebub might split to Bilsy and Bubba after Devan opened Inferno gate, and power left after their split gave him ability to turn into demon.

(I think so..)

Bubba. He's got the best moves, jumping around, spitting fire and the whirlwind attack, more than any other enemy.

Edit: Oh yeah, the queen is neat, too, but she isn't really well usable in custom levels, because, well... she's the queen. o_0

I like each boss for their own reasons.

Queen: She's interesting because she's the only boss where there's more strategy involved than "dodge attacks and reduce life meter to zero" to defeat her.

Tuf Boss: This guy is easy and pathetic. However, stick him in the walls during a boss battle where you can't hit him for a nice surprise to an unsuspecting player. }>

Superbot: I just like this guy for the fact you can have Devan actually appear when you're not fighting him.

Uterus: Again, there's a bit of strategy involved in this fight in that you must destroy his the eggs that orbit him before he can be damaged. Also, his death sequence is somewhat unique, which is nice.

Bolly: This one is a blatant ripoff of Dr. Eggman's Eggmobile from the Sonic series (in particular Sonic 3). However, that's what I like about him. He's also a decent "robot" or "mechanical" boss and ideal for Tubelectric levels. But why on Earth did CliffyB place this guy in the Medivo levels?

Bubba: Okay, I'm not a big fan of this guy mainly because he's just not that interesting. However, he's alright as a "filler" boss; a boss for a middle of the game area where there's nobody better to have the player fight.

Bilsy: This is what all the bosses should have been like: his teleporting and homing fireballs are unique, and he can actually do more than one hearts damage to you in a single attack. I also like how there's more to dodging his attack than "jump out of the way". This guy seriously should've been used in the normal game.

Devan: This guy is an appropriate final boss, with the cliche "turn into a second form when life reaches zero" thing going on. No real complaints about him, except for the whole stomping glitch and the fact that he's pretty easy once you get the hang of him.

All in all, to answer the question, I suppose I'd have to pick Bilsy as my favourite.

In JJ1, Medivo's end boss was a robotic flying machine which flew around in a small room. Flashback has the same basic thing, except it's piloted by a Super Spark instead of by Devan.

Tmandsc: The short fat demon who jumps around is called Bubba.

Bubba's the short, fat demon guy that bounces around, spits fireballs and does Tazmanian Devil esque spins.

When I first played JJ2, I had no problem playing it through, I didn't lose a single life until... Until I met Bolly. When I tried to beat Bolly I lost all my lifes. Luckilly I used Save Game option, and so after dozens of tries I finally beat him. Now I have no problem with him, but the first time he was a nightmare. I can bet Devan wasted less of my lifes in the first play.

Nope. Can't see the second eye. But thats because the angle Bolly is at makes it difficult to see (if you sorta 'skim' the picture it might look for a moment that you can see the second eye, but its just the bg appearing through the window. And...Devan inside bolly? what?

Devan's Robot (Superbot or something): Meh. Nice idea. Like how he dies, but too easy, and it gets buggy when you place more then one of them. The bug where he stands on one place shooting at nothing while you stomp on him makes him a pushover.

Queen: Original. Was a bit hard at first. But I don't like her ;d. She doesn't fit into a lot of tilesets and takes too long to defeat, even though most her attacks are weak (yell does barely anything, bricks can be easily avoided/stomped)

Schwartzenerdude: Nice, all around boss imo. Might be a bit too easy if you just place him normally, but you could come up with a lot of spiffy stuff with him, and he fits in a lot of sets/stories because he's like a turtle general.

Uterus: Also good, all around boss. Loses the spinning things when jj2 is low on animations or whatever, and I like how he dies as well. I like him around the same as the boss above, maybe a bit less.

Bolly: hahaha this boss was a nightmare for me when I first played, almost as hard as devan. He has a few nice attacks, and I like how you can destroy parts of his ship. Prolly my favorite boss, looks cool too.

Devil Devan: Also pretty hard, although that bug where you shot him when he was in his demon form that made him die automatically made it easier. Don't like him as much as Bolly, around as much as Uterus. Also, that bug where his head sometimes turns into something in the level (Saw his head appear as Eva's in cartoon episode, some sign post in the Demon Invasion, and a CATERPILLAR HEAD in my own pack >|. Also can jump out of the level at times.

Bubba: Another nice all around boss. Tornado attack, jumps around, shoots fireballs. Only problem is that he sometimes jumps out of the level, although I've heard there is a way to fix that.

Bilsy: Moderately difficult boss, was really hard for me. Powerful attacks, teleportation etc. This guy packs a punch. Close race between him and Bolly (but Bolly > Bilsy)

Rocket turtle: I once got this to work. It made a demented turtle with a jetpack or something stand there and do nothing, then suddenly hurt me and dissapear or something. ;o ;o ;o.

Tweedle: Might've looked interesting in Psych or something. Wonder what his attacks were suppose to be.

GG

I remember when AE put a rocket turtle into his Co-op level of madness and hosted it on multiplayer. I think it tried to swoop down at one of the players, but that player defeated the boss. Once I made a small level to test the rocket turtle. All it seemed to do is fly to pos (0, 0). XD

Place Area ID events to create a path for Rocket Turtle. It doesn't make him a useful boss, though. He doesn't seem to loop through the path, and usually will either just float there motionless or disappear after completing the path.

(but Bolly > Bilsy)

I disagree. Although I agree that Bolly is definitely a very difficult boss, especialy the first time I played him, I soon found out it's easy to uppercut his long ball-and-chain thingy. After that's gone all you have to do is just wait for him to place his target on you and start stomping on him numerous times until he's done pwning the walls with his missles and starts moving around again. Then repeat it again and again.

Bilsy on the other hand is THE ultimate boss, in my opinion. He has a weakness, sure, when you stomp, you're immune to the fireballs he throws at you. I still find him more difficult than bolly, it's probably his ability to teleport that gets me at times.

Violet CLM

Someday, putting Bilsy in an arena of stomp blocks and hurt events will catch on. Until then, everyone just complains.
