View Full Version : J2Ov2 Bug Report

Trafton
Aug 13, 2004, 11:23 AM
Well, now that J2Ov2 is out (http://www.jazz2online.com/) there will be a few bugs. Some we know of, others we may not. Feel free to report them here and we will resolve them as soon as possible.

Some known ones follow.

FUNCTIONALITY
* Profile preferences were not correctly converted, namely time zone and Who's Online visibility. SOLUTION: Fix this manually.
* Helpful Reviews is not entirely done.
* RabbitJournal displays AB10 site comments. [Feature, not bug. -FQuist]
* When receiving a PM, the author field is empty. (SlaYo)
* When viewing All Files by a certain author, if you change pages, it will take you to that page on the main downloads list. (Unknown Rabbit) [Fixed - FQuist]
* The default upon registration for Who's Online is invisible.
* IP addresses are not logged upon registration.

CONTENT
* The dragonfly isn't just in the Jungle tileset. It can also be found in Psych. Fix this listing. (Blackraptor)
* Rocket Turtle is missing from the End Bosses page, and Bilsy is in his black outfit, despite being described as the Xmas version. (Unknown Rabbit)
* In "Creation of Jazz Jackrabbit", the Start and Return text links work, but the images aren't links. They feel like they should be. (Unknown Rabbit)
* The "Did You Know??" panel should not have two question marks. This looks bad and is not correct grammar.

While trying to change themes, the link that requests you login leads back to j2ov1 login and only logs you in there.

Editing reviews doesn't work.

Blackraptor
Aug 13, 2004, 11:47 AM
* Lizard is not only in Carrotus and Colon, but as well as in **** (the very last level) (applies to float lizard as well)
* Norm turtle is also in psych
* Bat is not only in castle but in the **** levels
* Helmut can also jump at you (2-3 tiles approx.)
* Freezer ammo could also be used strategically to freeze someone so they cannot move, then kick/stomp/uppercut them
* For old reviews j2o puts in the date under the year of 1970 or so O.o.

All for now..

cooba

Lizard is not only in Carrotus and Colon, but as well as in **** (the very last level) (applies to float lizard as well)ONLY Float Lizards.
Norm turtle is also in psychAppears once AFAIK.

Themes.php appears to be missing an ob_start() function or something of the like as the headers are sent out prior to the cookies (i think?)...
Site Links under 'j2l' for disguise's site takes you to the tomb rabbit website.

Edit: Agree with post "a few posts down", some private messages are un-clickable.
Is there supposed to be a footer / copyright on the main page?

cooba
Aug 13, 2004, 11:56 AM
Having Norm Turtles listed below just two locations is plain stupid, having those appears almost everywhere, including demo Labrat level. Same with Dragonflies, in demo Diamondus one.

Blackraptor
Aug 13, 2004, 12:05 PM
[QUOTE=Agent Cooba]ONLY Float Lizards.
[QUOTE]

Aye, but Float Lizards shot down become lizards ;D
As for the Norm Turtle, I am aware it appears only once or so, but still appears.

Also, for some new reviews such as http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/downloads/info.php?levelID=3346
it says there are 0 reviews and the rating of the file is 0, yet Trafton has a review there rating it an 8.2. (At least last time I checked)

EDIT #1: http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/node.php?title=aboutSequel <-Broken picture in middle of text plz thx.

In the user profile, the "Files by this user" link looks bad and sends you to a 404.
In List Reviews: "This script is just plain wrong. Needs to be fixed (-Bobby)"

Broken images: http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/node.php?title=aboutSequel
http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/articles/view.php?articleID=32

http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/node.php?title=jcsIndex - Disguise's Tileset Resource links to Tomb Rabbit instead.

In the pictures section, when you sort by a specific type, a database error occurs.
And when there's a database error, the page footer gets lost.

On http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/user/profile.php
"Warning: Missing argument 2 for domessage() in /home/jazz2on/public_html/J2Ov2/includes/inc.html.php on line 9"
Also an invalid ID to this profile page returns a blank page. No error, no header, no nothin'.
Other pages where you give a bad ID, it returns a database error.

There are some misleading thingies in descriptions of official levels:

"Dungeon Dilemma"
In the final version, this level contains spikes which do not actually hurt the player. Oddly, though, they worked fine in the beta.

They work fine for me, and i have 1.24.

"Tossed Salad"
This level features frees which can be shot to make them fall down.

trees*

"Weirder Science"
If you find the secret in this level, you can get to a cool bonus called Birdland.

Lies. No entrance to labrat3.j2l on Weirder Science at all.

"Loose Screws"
This is the only level in the single player to feature speed blocks, which collapse when you run through them.

Err... Retro Rabbit also had those.

"Funky Grooveathon"
Also, beware of the spoikes

Spikes*

"Medieval Kineval"
Game artist Nick Stadler has said that the gargoyles in the Medivo levels were his favorite things in the entire game to draw.

They were ONE OF THOSE.

"Snow Bunnies"
Cliff Blezsinksi

(aaaah) Bleszinski*

Blacky : That bug in Violet's tileset turned out today, before switching to J2Ov2. (fix your post because my quote is barely readable)

The little 'Games in Progress' bar says that 1.23 servers are 1.21.
Actually...that isn't a bug. 1.21-1.23 servers have the same properties, and the same version number. The list server, in fact, lists 1.23 games as 1.21.

Edit to add:
I can't access some of my private messages, there's nothing to click to link to it. I assume it's the messages without a subject (as the subject of the message is the link used to direct to them) but I could be wrong. Example image below (notice the gap).

Reviews aren't always sorted by date when there are no helpful ratings. This can possibly because of edits updating the timestamp(?) - thanks to LRK

This is nitpicky and may not be considered a bug, but:
In the description for "Skeleton's Turf" it mentions it's one of the few levels to not have a pun or rhyme in the title. It should also mention alliterations as a common feature of level names. "Jungle Jump", "Turtle Town", "Retro Rabbit", "Dungeon Dilemma" etc.)

Good job guys. Found some more bugs:

When retrieving your password, if you choose the "Username" option and only put in your email (or vice versa) there is an error message. The error message should be more helpful as in mentioning what you did wrong (like how most forms act after you filled them out ie. required fields etc.) instead of what it is now.

"Local Play Splitscreen" and "Internet and Network Play" headings should be switched. (http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/node.php?title=multiplayerGameTypes)
[EDIT: Seems to be fixed.]

Biggest bug I've found yet:
On the side panel of the front page, every module under the mini GIP does not show. That is why the "Google J2O" option does not show by default.

And one feature request: A levelgroup field for download submissions. That way you could sort by levelgroup, etc. :)

Iam Canadian

Here's another one:
In the multiplayer FAQ, the very last question (the "white line" one. Obviously about laser shields.) is non-existant. It's in the list of questions, but isn't in the actual FAQ.

NO LINKS TO JDC!

Stijn
Aug 14, 2004, 06:10 AM
I don't have much bugs to report, but I do have some comments on the layout.

1) I couldn't find what the images next to levelnames stand for. Ofcourse, afetr a little thinking it became clear Lori=TSF and Savepoint=Tip, but it could be made a little easier (maybe make an option to switch bewteen TSF and http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/media/downloads/lorihead.gif?)
2) Could it be posisble to make the Links section remember the order you want to see the links in? When I want to check for newly added links, it's easier when they are sorted by date.
3) The header keeps displaying "games in progress" as title, for some reason (I mean the text beneath Jazz & Spaz) EDIT: It appears that this is a link, nevermind
4) I couldn't find the page to customize the looks of J2O :D I mainly wanted to do this because the links look like headers/titles and not like Links (maybe make them a little lighter, grey or something?)
5) Still no option to include a screenshot with your upload :(
6) The Helmut jumps at you on the "hard" difficulty level
7) The Sparks only moves towards you when you turn your back to him
8) A couple of other things I migth write about later

Stijn
Aug 14, 2004, 06:27 AM
9) A few newlines are missing at the credits page (example: Spazzyman - Coding (GIP) Trafton - Content Editor, Administration - no newline between (GIP) and Trafton
10) Is there a quicker way to get to the pictures page than forntpage>other>member pictures?
11) forget problem 4, found it :D but you might want to add a field for customizing link colors, instead of forcing people to use the CSS editor (not everyone knows CSS)
12) ...Customizing and then clicking "Customize!" gives an error... Main error: Warning: fopen(/home/jazz2on/public_html/J2Ov2/media/css/user281.css): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/jazz2on/public_html/J2Ov2/themes.php on line 53
13) The "games in progress" table on the front page is really big, no matter how much games there are
14) Big pictures still mess up the site... how about automatically resizing them when they are bigger than [x]x[x] pixels?
15) Also, pictures are not centered while the rest of the content is. This might be a "feature", though :P
16) The " [Report Review] [Edit Review] [Delete Review] [All reviews by this user]" links at the bottom of reviews are sort of distracting... I'd suggest to make them smaller or place them in a seperate <<b></b>tr>
17) broken image at http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/node.php?title=aboutSequel
18) probably some things I still missed :P

If I edit someone else's review of my own upload, it doesn't allow me to let the review have a rating, as that would be rating my own upload. If I set the review to N/A, I have to give a N/A Download Rec as well. Somewhat impractical, but I love the failed logic.

My bug report about Norton Internet Security 2004 and this site got eaten by the old host, so I'll repost the part that I remember. The PMs that I sent about it (in the main site) also got eaten.

Anyway, if you try to download a file using IE with Norton enabled it'll sit there downloading the file (with IE claiming to be "getting information about the file"), and then leave you with a 0-byte file with whatever name. Disable Norton, and it prompts for a filename, then downloads the file quite happily except IE doesn't seem to know how big the file is.

As a possible solution, I'd suggest adding to the HTTP response the size of the file (Content-Length header IIRC). I think I have some packet captures of it kicking about, so I can post them if they'd help.

I just decided that I should ask this from you, jj2-community, as this thing has appeared for me a long time already.

Well, if you could know an answer...Any of the pictures on j2o doesn't load. Neither I can see the "Reply", "Edit post" -buttons, etc. I can anyways click on them and the links work fine. But now I'm wondering, is this the fault of my laggy internet, or is j2o broken again somehow? I anyways visited a few other sites and the pictures and all other stuff loaded well.

Answer as soon as possible. This thingy should be absolutely fixed if it's caused by the j2o itself.

Ok, some of this stuff as already been posted probably, I'll post it again those, because those are a lot of posts to go through, and I already talked to F.Quist about some of these:

~After a user has made a level, and uploaded it, and tries to post a review, he cannot edit that review due to the fact that, the site tries to say that he is trying to rate his own level, when he is not.
~What does custom title do, where does it appear?
~Will the upload size over be more than 2 MBs? Maybe 3 or 4, music becomes an issue sometimes. Or a restriction on music only that it can go to a little bit more than 2 MB

I think you didn't understand what I said, so here's an example.

Level is uploaded, and someone makes a poor review and gives the level a 6. Two people do not find the review helpful. Then another guy makes a review (NOT n\a). I think this review should be above the one that's not helpful.

Every review in the Links section says it was made 07-31-1994. I'm guessing that's a slight innacuracy ;\

Link reviews did not record dates in J2Ov1. So an arbitrary date was chosen. Does this happen on new link reviews too?

The "All reviews by this author" script is still buggy and doesn't work.

"However, the developers never finished it (Tweedle ~Cooba), and only one animation frame exists."

I like how this is totally wrong. There are plenty of frames, you just can't try harder to find them ;p

Yes, this is a serious problem. Please fixs this as soon as possible.

(I wanted to merge all "reviews" that were posted by "Total Freaks" on the "gg no re" upload, but I couldn't - which sucks.)

Edit: I think this only happens if you choose to have a textbox where you can insert the rating. Either way it sucks.

HAHAH! Textbox reviewers have found their bane! }>
Let's go back to the good ol' .2, .5 and .7 reviews!!! :D

I dunno if this was said before, but if I click on "all reviews by this user" (all reviews by me, for example) it shows me that I have made 120 N\A reviews, which is not true at all. The average score for my reviews is 0, aswell as the average score of levels reviewed by me (huh?) and the rating strictness. Somehow, this might be wrong, isn't it? ;-D

I'm not sure if this was posted yet.....but.....

You do a search, then click on the download, now if you click the back button on your browser - it shows "Page Cannot Be Displayed"

The "Jazz Jackrabbit 2 1.21 to 1.23 patch" link is broken.
Among the "Useful but unnecessary files:" XJJ2 is listed, but there is no link for it.

Someone might as well just delete that part about XJJ2 since JazzForce is superior to it in every way.

Swim, swim, hungry.

Jarnos First JJ1 Mix (http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/downloads/info.php?levelID=3587) in the second page of the Review Ideas page (http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/downloads/couldUseReview.php?page=1&order=&type=) page reports a very "This file has been deleted" error. And to add insult to injury, the clickable administrator (http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/node.php?title=Admins+Contact+Info) link on the error page leads to a page that says, and I quote, "Invalid Node!". So. . .yeah.

I've fixed this now, or actually I did during the bash but I forgot to report that. Thank you for the report, it was quite good to know.

Notice the "Random link" button: http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/pictures/

It should be "random picture" like here: http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/pictures/view.php?pictureID=1043

OMG, you failed to get the point... what I was pointing to is that the "random link" link should be named "random picture".

Another bug:
After I looked a while in J2O's photo-gallery, my browser isn't able anymore to show imagefiles. He just doesn't load them till I restart my PC. Nowhere. Not on any site. Bah. Point.
I don't know if that is a fault of my old suxxy PC or my slow internet (64k), but all other imagegallery's on other sites doesn't give me this bug.

<b>Found rating bug.</b> If you check off "<i>Use a Textbox for Review Ratings</i>" then you can't Review your own levels.
It will say something like this:
<b>You can't rate your own level</b> Rating:<input value="">

I was unable to reproduce your bug report. If I leave out the rating, I can review my own level without any trouble, including when using a textbox. Did you enter something into the textbox without trying? If not, could you give more details on how you got the error?
