JCF Name Change Requests (Read first post!)

We are now allowing people to change their username. This will reduce the frequency of double accounts just for a different name. There are, however, several rules for name changes.
You may not add or modify clan tags. You can remove existing ones, keep them the way they are, or move them to a different spot in your username. We discourage the use of clan tags in usernames.
You may not change your username within five months of your previous username change, or within five months of registration. So choose your usernames carefully.
Requests need a good reasoning, especially if you have changed your name before.
Admins can always refuse to change your name for any reason.
The new username must follow all normal board rules (e.g. no profanity, no misleading names like "admin", etc.)Post your requests in this topic. If your change is acceptable, it will be permanently recorded in this post with the date of the change. This serves as a record in case there is any doubt of your identity. We will also add a "former username" field to your user profile (and shown on posts) which you can request to be removed after one month.
The former username field is only for former usernames. It shall not be used for any other purpose.
The former username field may be removed after a one month oeriod upon request.To make changes as efficient as possible, please specify exactly what you want your name to be. It would be a good idea to put it in quotation marks ("") if there could be any confusion with punctuation or spacing. If we incorrectly change the name, we'll fix it, but it's best to be right the first time.

I can't really merge the accounts, so you'll have two accounts no matter what. Currently "Vercoln" has 123 posts and registered in June 2002, and "Xeno" has 226 posts and registered in March 2001.

Alexander: You registered on August 30, 2004, so you can't change your name until January 30, 2005. We also don't allow adding clan tags to names. Refer to the first post in this thread for the details of the rules.

Scizor: Is CT a clan tag? If it is, you can keep it because it's already in your name. But do you really want to? As Conker said, most people here are removing the clan tags because they don't see them as being important on forums.

It will be removed one month after the name change, so in your case, December 16, 2004. It's mainly intended for users who have complete name changes, but it's easier to manage and more fair if everyone has to have it.

TBM: I don't think names like those would be allowed.

The formerly tag is added when your account name is changed into something entirely different, so that the change won't confuse people.

TBM: I don't know if a name like "FQuist's Clone" would be allowed or not, but it seems like it would be counterproductive after all the effort you put into being called "The Blaziken Master" instead of your old name. You also cannot change your name until the end of this month.

N0B0DY: The "Formerly" field is intended to tell other users who you are after a recent name change. It's not supposed to be a profile or vanity field. If it were used that way, its usefulness would be undermined.

DarkSonic: This thread is only for JCF name changes. There is currently no mechanism on J2O for name changes. If you really want your name changed on J2O you could talk to an active administrator there.

Michael, unfortunately you can't change your name to "PeesInTheShower" at this time. While the name is questionable on the JCF, it is also not representative and the administration feels that it's not really a serious name. If you don't like the name "Michael", you can still change it to something else, but try to think of something that is more like a name and that people would be more willing to call you. You can put the requested name in your custom title if you really want it.

Representative: I was going to save this one for later, but.. actually it is, sometimes I do pee in the shower instead of before hand in the toilet, to save the flush water (which is around 8 litres) and use the shower's flow to flush, since there is a water crisis in Israel.
Serious: I have had this whole week to seriously reconcider, and I still want it, so I am serious and it is representative.
I want a differant name, people can still call me by it though "he who pees in the sower".
If I would register like a new guy with that name, it would be allowed, correct? if so then the way I see it, I should be able to change it to that as a registered user too.
Pls reconcider since the only probler now is that the name is questionable because of it's content about the rules.

I don't think the username character limit was supposed to be that small. I know there are other users with names longer than 15 characters. It probably got reset when we had database problems.

I'll make these changes when I get home, as it's annoying to do on dialup. Ninja should technically not be allowed to change his name back (it has not been 5 months), but I think it's okay since the change was fairly recent and he just wants it back to the old name.

I've swapped the names, and changed the email address in the now Michael account (old Nitro) to the one in the old Michael account (now Nitro). So they both have the same email address.

I think Michael/Nitro wanted to go further than just swapping names. That he'd start to use the old account again and drop the newer one which is now Nitro.. so that he has an older registered date. Double accounts are forbidden, but I'm not sure if you already have two and you basically got through the system swapping them can be acted against.. I'd advise that Michael keeps using his newer account though, since it'd create confusion with his newer more recent posts not being searchable on his active account then. His newer account is his newer identity, and there should be easy access to recent posts by this user, and not only the old posts.

One thing that needs to be clear at least: do not use both accounts actively.

I do not know about these precedents.. I haven't noticed them. Preventing posting on one of the accounts seems to be a good measure in whatever situation.

Maybe it's precedented.. I still think that renaming just for the vanity thing of making your registered date display as older is not a good thing (so it would be a bad precedent). Renaming seems to be a good thing, it allows users to continue identifying (feeling connected and involved) with their jcf accounts even when they get another name. Vanity renaming and especially name switching seems to me that it grants us work while having very little benefit to anyone, not being neccessary at all for having the user still identify with their account, and having the negative result of the user's post record breaking. I definitely consider that last thing to be an issue. I would generally disrecommend switching for that reason. (I also must think about the future warning system here and how it would break too this way)

As Link is the admin most involved in name changing though (having designed the policy too) I'll heed to his opinion.
