Yes I know what you think, you think (-)* another contest but hey this is a little bit different then other contests because this isn`t a battle CTF contest but a singleplayer contest. I am starting this contest because there aren`t many new SP levels and I really like SP levels, and I think many people are waiting for some good new SP levels.
Rules of the contest:
- It has to be a SP level (lol).
- The levelsize has to be 256x64 or bigger.
- There doesn`t have to be a story.
- It haves to be playable as Jazz and Spazz.
- The level needs to be 1.23.
- It needs A exit or boss :D
- All the background layers haves to be used.( layer 5,6,7 and 8)
- Tileset doesn`t matter.
- No level edits or remakes but a totally new level.
- The deadline is 30 Nov.
that`s about all the rules.
If your level is done upload it on J20 or send it to me by mail or MSN or post the link to your download here. When the contest is over I will choose 3 winners and then make a poll and it`s then up to you to choose the level you like the best. The poll will be open for 7 days so you can only vote then.

I can make your level 1.23 so if you wanna participate just make a level with 1.23 events and tileset and send it to me and I make it an 1.23 level for you.

I don't feel like making a SP level for no prize while I am making a CTF. Sorry.

I'm getting kind of tired of contests that are decided by a poll. It seems you would get similar results from picking a few random levels out of the downloads page and asking people which they like the best.

Hmmm...
I might enter. I have a level I wanted to put into the Quake-O-Matic Quandary but couldn't wrench into the storyline. If I finish that level, I'll enter the contest.

1.23 doesn't work for me anymore.

That's not going to be a reason to allow 1.23 files.

I guess you mean 1.24 files, otherwise your last post doesn't make sense. :D
What about making seperate contests, one for 1.23 and one for 1.24? This way poor TSFers would get a chance.

As well, I got interested about this when I looked at the JCS-forum's last post. Oh, I have only 9 days left to make one.
I gotta start working with jcs immediately. Sad that I'm keen on other games than jj2, and it's jcs atm, but I'll try to do at least something so I finally could participate in a level-making contest. I've yet tried to participate in only one kind of level-making contest, but the deadline was already gone past when I tried to send my level for that.
So, now I must finish it before 30th october.
I usually like to put a storyline to my levels, so that keeps me interested on finishing it better.

Actually, SJ, the deadline is November 30th. So there's not THAT much of a rush.

Oops. Phew, thanks for that note, Canadian. :p
I just looked to the rules so quickly that I forgot nov wasn't 10th month. So, then I'll have just enough time.

There are additional events in the 1.24 editor, such as new enemies. That matters a lot when doing a single player level. Contests only allowing 1.23 with no good reasoning behind sucks.

That would be possible. Though I don't know if I will participate (I don't have much time in the moment + no real ideas), but maybe I will make something. :)

We really need to find some working formula for contests. Some get lots of entries, and others get none at all.
(Maybe because people are already active in other contests? If there was only one open at any given time, that might be easier...)

I'm currently pretty clueless as to what makes a popular contest, as some of the ones I've seen in the past that I thought would do well have failed.

I guess the person who organizes the contest is the reason for creators to join or not to join. People with a better reputation can organize events much easier, since they are taken seriously (I don't say now that Satan has no reputation or so - it might be another factor that no-one joined)

He didn't ask if he could get it, but where.
You can get it by asking someone who has it. Too bad most of them don't want to give it out either because it's "illegal" or because they don't want every pack to have a J2E with them (did you know people can actually choose to unzip the J2E or not?). Anyway, try Cell.
And pageclaim.

I think it is because there have been way too much contests lately and there's no real prize (money or whatever). How about this: Only one active contest would be allowed on the JCF, it would be made sticky and "official" and the winner would have the "first" right to start a new contest, or to choose to leave it to the next volunteer. It would probably be better for everyone ;)
EDIT: Oh, and the contest holder would need to make a proper thread with the rules, prizes, catogeries and entries (so far), all nicely formatted and readable.
You must have a program ( i have it ^^ )

You ruin threads.
Start one yourself or so, but quit flooding other threads.
Derby: Flame tag removal. Avoid coaxing others into fighting you.

That's a very interesting idea. If you want to start a contest, you have to win the last one, or convince the winner that your idea is better. (Or wait, isn't contests the Community Organizer's job? Do we have a community organizer?)
And yeah, there have been way too many contests lately.

Not really, but at least the winner should have the right to organize one (though most winners probably wouldn't do it). But were you mocking the idea or agreeing with it? :S:S:S::S

I mean, it looks and sounds good, but a person that wins a contest and a person that host a contest are two totally different people.
Organisers and participants are not the same type of people, and it would be unfair to both if you only allow them to do the other's job.

There need to be less contests, yes, but I also think that they should be more original. For example a contest asks someone to make an original level, wouldn't people just do that anyway when they make levels to upload on JCF? (The rating would tell them how well they have done, don't need a judge or no). Without a prize it has no pulling power, and without originality there really wouldn't be any sort of fun factor. Do something different that people tend to not do as default is great. Another thing I find very important is to actually limit the entry in some way. If you make a contest where you ask people to make a 3000 tile tileset (dumb example but hey) then nobody in the world would enter it because it would take too much of their time, people are lazy.

Like I (also in #jj2) said, the "winner may host next contest" may or may not be a good idea. The main point I was trying to make was that the contest could use some moderation, and indeed the "make original level!!1"-contest aren't attracting much participants for the very reason you mentioned - you always try to be original. That's why I'd like more specific guidelines and rules: it makes a contest more interesting.
(Original is a quite abstract and relative word too - A level full of rocket turtles would surely be original but I bet it wouldn't win an originality contest)
