<I know what you're thinking. "Oh no, it's a contest. When will people give up?" Not anytime soon, that's for sure. Another contest couldn't hurt. Plus what's more inspiring than a prize of actual money?>
<table border="1" bordercolor="#46475A" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="3" width="100%" background="https://d3.jazz2online.com/d3table.jpg"><tr><td><table border="1" bordercolor="#46475A" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="6" width="100%" bgcolor="black"><tr><td align="left">
Assault the Base Contest
This is an Assault contest in case you were wondering. In another attempt to make a contest that works, I decided to do what I did with my first contest and use a monetary prize. But the prize will be different from what any other JJ2 contest has done before.
Prize: Starting from zero, the prize amount will be raised by $20 (USD) for every entry. So if 20 entries are submitted, the prize will be $400. The prize money will most likely be sent via PayPal or Bitcoin.
Current Prize: $80 (4 submissions)
Deadline: Either one week after 10 entries have been submitted, or immediately after 30 entries have been submitted, whichever comes first, however long it takes.
Rules:
Submissions
<ul><li>You cannot submit anything you have uploaded to J2O prior to the start of this contest. However, you are allowed to upload it to J2O once your submission has been accepted.
<li>You can submit as many levels as you want, but only one will count as your official entry. In other words, you wouldn't be able to single-handedly submit enough entries to end the contest early with the maximum prize money.
<li>Your level may be either 1.23 or TSF. Scripted/Plus-only levels are also allowed.
<li>You may work with one other person if you want, but naturally you would have to split the prize money.
<li>You may use email (blurredd(at)gmail.com) or this thread to send your submission. I'll send a short reply when I have received your entry via email.</ul>
Level Design
<ul><li>You may choose to make either a Double Assault level or a One-Sided Assault level.
<li>You must use at least 5 crates or 5 objectives. An example of an objective would be destroying a wall of destruct scenery to get to the next area. If you choose to use objectives, I recommend documenting each objective somewhere (it would make my job easier).
<li>Your entry must at the very least look like some effort was put into it. I'll accept any entry as long as it doesn't look like it took less than 5 minutes to make. See Syntax's Assault3 (https://www.jazz2online.com/downloads/info.php?levelID=90) level for an example.</ul>
Keep in mind that the easier the level is to learn, the more likely people will want to play in it, and the better chance the level will have of winning. If you aren't sure about something, ask first. As of now I will be the only judge, but I promise to be as fair as possible. And if you make an Assault level for Black Ninja's Foo Products Assault Level Competition, you may submit it to this contest as well (assuming Black Ninja doesn't mind and all of the requirements for my contest are met).
EDIT:
<ul><li>TSF levels are now allowed.
<li>Scripted/Plus-only levels are now allowed.
<li>I updated how I can be contacted, which is now either by my Gmail address or this thread. IRC is no longer a viable method to contact me (since nearly 10 years).
<li>I removed the request to make two versions of One-Sided Assault levels; JJ2+ can cover swapping teams for all players.
<li>The prize amount increment per entry has been increased from $3 to $20 (USD).
<li>The contest now ends when there is either 30 entries or one week after 10 entries, whichever comes first.
<li>The prize money will now most likely be sent via PayPal or Bitcoin instead of money order. Because it's 2016.
<li>You can submit as many levels as you want, but only one will count as your official entry. In other words, you wouldn't be able to single-handedly submit enough entries to end the contest early with the maximum prize money.</ul>

And before you ask, if you make an Assault level for DarkSonic's Original Level contest, you may submit it to this contest as well (assuming DarkSonic doesn't mind).
This regulation makes me being in.

Prize: Starting from zero, the prize amount will be raised by $3 (USD) for every entry. So if 20 entries are submitted, the prize will be $60. The prize money will most likely be sent by mail order.Interesting indeed. However, I'm not sure if I can enter. During the contest time I have a 3 week vacation inbetween, one I'm intending to spend on CoH allllll the time (considering that I can't play it at university), after which I have my end of semester exams at university which will keep me busy all the way until the 12th January. I do have two weeks inbetween now and my vacation, but there is a <a href="http://www.hewwo.com/nostalgia">tileset</a> that I want to finish else it will just get delayed indefinitley.
It does sound really fun though, if I have enough time inbetween I will definitley give this a try, but that's quite unlikely.

It's not Blur's fault. Blame the American downhill economy. Well, it's not really going downhill at all, but the dollar is certainly not as strong as it used to be. :( Cell still hasn't replied, so my assault lvl is on hold.

I changed the rules a bit. Now you are only required to make a single One-Sided Assault level for an entry and the standards for how good your Assault level must be went down a bit. The deadline is 15 days from now, so don't forget to send in your submission.<and no levels have been submitted as of yet>
blurredd
Jan 14, 2005, 02:48 PM
I was pretty much expecting a turnout as so. If you need more time, say so here and I might consider changing the deadline. Otherwise Acid (the only official entry) wins by default.

There is a tiny, tiny, tiny chance I'll submit something. But people will be more likely to submit levels as the prize goes up, so you might end up giving something like $600 to the winner. So you probably should cancel it.

What do you do in assault. No examples i've had.Well, in my first post is the link to Syntax's Assault3 level which might've helped you understand it a bit. Here (http://www.jazz2online.com/jdc/event/eventdesc.php#14)'s a general description of the gametype, and here (http://www.jazz2online.com/jdc/levels.php?ext=/eventlevels//Assault/) are some other Assault levels. Assault is best played online with a lot of people by the way. With that said, I'd rather not go into any more detail about Assault at this moment. But chances are, if you've never heard of Assault as of yet, it's not worth the trouble of entering this contest.
I was trying to make a Assault level for the contest, unfortunatly it worked out very bad.
I'll post the level as soon as possible.
I finally uploaded my entry to J2O, after fixing it up a bit. This is the final version.

Nope. "However long it takes" indeed. I updated some things:

Because it's 2016.</ul>

And I actually still can't compete in this... At the end, the joke's on me.
Anyway, probably not the right place to ask this but, what is an assault level?
I mean, I figured someone here would already ask that, but the links are old so the general description of the gamemode type now leads to JDC 3vs3 matches.

I mean, I figured someone here would already ask that, but the links are old so the general description of the gamemode type now leads to JDC 3vs3 matches.
Assault is a team-based gamemode where the goal is to complete a set of objectives faster than the other team. In old assault levels this typically consists of breaking a series of crates in order to advance, although script allows for more possibilities nowadays. There are two types of Assault level: single and double.
In single assault, the attacking team tries to complete the objectives as fast as possible while the defending team tries to stop them. The round ends when all of the objectives are complete or when the time runs out. After the round is over, the teams swap roles and it becomes the mission of the other team to complete the objectives faster than the other team did in order to win the match. If the other team did not successfully complete all of the objectives, then the team just needs to get further than the other team did to win.
Examples of single assault include The Bridge (ASBridge), Cargo Ship Assault (ASCargo) and Fortress of Fate (ASFate).
In double assault, the basic principles of the gamemode are the same except both teams have to complete objectives simultaneously, with the first team to finish being the winner, or the team that completed the most objectives after the time runs out.
Examples of double assault include Desolation Hills (onsdhills), Midnight Metropolis (xlmm3os01) and Abandoned Skyscraper Assault (olcassault1).
