View Full Version : Did you know?

First, I've spotted an error:

You can use up to 15 text strings in JCS [Electric]

There are 16 text strings, one of them is 0. :)

I also have a few suggestions myself. Some, I think, are new while others everyone already know but nobody has mentioned it (there are lots of well-known 'Did you know?' tips so I thought a couple more wouldn't hurt). Use my text or write it yourself, admins:

1. You can go through walls and suckertubes if you are pulled up into the air by the cheshire cat.

2. If you exit a warp and immediately go into a suckertube with a delay of x seconds then the suckertube will make you stuck and never release you! You can shoot, but that's it.

3. If you enter a suckertube that goes too fast (about >35) then you are not affected by slower suckertubes (about <35) until you slow down. *Explanation: If you go into a suckertube of X-speed 60 leading to a suckertube of Y-speed of 30 you will hit the ground before you enter the Y-speed suckertube because you were going too fast.*

4. In singleplayer, you can create bullet-time effects by using transparent tiles as layer 8 background.

5. When making chatrooms, either make them underwater, give the players an airboard or force them into suckertubes (buttstomp to exit) to prevent players using their special moves on each other. Also make sure to put the warp in a safe place because No Fire Zones do not cover warps.

That's all. I hope they get accepted and I definitely hope they haven't been mentioned before.

I wouldn't mind seeing some new Did you Know?'s either. Like "The Normal Turtle enemy is a re-shaded Turtle Goon enemy from JJ1".

Sure we might as well add some new tips. If everyone wants to post tips here I'll go about adding some after a few days.

There were plans at one time to add a DYK control panel for the admins - would this still be possible?

Bobby aka Dizzy
Dec 9, 2004, 03:49 PM
It's possible but more likely that I'll just do it myself - currently the DYK is just in a file and not stored in a database like most things on J2O.

Wow, interesting I didn't know any of those except #3.

White Rabbit
Dec 10, 2004, 09:04 AM
Yay! :D

Maybe some more uselesss but interesting stuff too?

For example, the maximum number of letters/spaces you can have in a JJ2 text string and of course mention that Chuck is a hip-hop bird instead of just telling ppl he belongs to Jazz? Mention how to use squeezed text in JCS and some tileset creation/masking tips? Finally, tell ppl how many Did you know?s actually exists and of course interesting J2o statistics (100/1000th upload, first 3 uploads, how many members there are in J2o [something like this exists for JCF but it needs to be updated], how many uploads there are in total and the top 5 or top 10 reviewers [wonder if I'm there heh]). :D

I found out something about a month ago, didn't share this knowledge, and now I forgot it. Shame on me.
Anyway, there are two resembling things I found out a while ago:
1. "Learning Curve" (tutor.it from JJ3 demo) is the title of an Ultimate Spider-Man chapter.
2. Darn, I can't remember. I'm thinking and thinking, but can't remember! Maybe somebody who I told this does remember.

White Rabbit

Can I know when all those things are going to be written in the 'Did you know?' list?

Bobby aka Dizzy
Dec 10, 2004, 11:15 AM
I'll try and tell you when I add them if you wish.

If you want to have more DYK tips added I suggest that you make them a little more formal when you write them since I don't want to go and figure out how many characters can be put in a JCS string really. :)

White Rabbit
Dec 10, 2004, 11:25 AM
I'll find that one out for you Dizzy, but you will have to find the J2o statistics by yourself. :p

Crates automatically open when the tile under them switches from unmasked to masked.

Does that count as DYK? I would like to see it added! :D

Spontaneous crate explosion? :O

yepp!
And all without lasers. If handled right, that could be used for timers. For example the player has about 2 minutes to do something until the crate with a TNT in it explodes and destroys a trigger crate, which disables the floor and lets the player fall into an instantly death pit stuff thing. I guess that could be possible, even though I did not test it yet.

-In the jazz2 beta, Colon2 (Colonial Chaos) had a different level music
-Electro-blasters are the ultimate anti-camper weapon
-Tryian (A arcade shooter made by Epic) has some referances to Jazz Jackrabbit
-Bouncers are made not out of plastic explosives, but RUBBER explosives!
-Lori was origionally going to be a distant cousin of Eva
-Jazz was named after one of the producers dogs
-Jazz's favorite book is "Watership Down"
-Spaz ate the Dopefish

"Don't flip an animated tile in JCS"

...total lies. Don't place Gameplay|Scenery events on them and it'll be fine.

That's an obvious one. If we're putting that one we might as well tell ppl the JCS hotkeys (B, F, etc.)

More DYK's

-The Holiday Hare music is remixed chrismas carols
-You can shoot upwards on vines
-You can tell everyone you know about Jazz Jackrabbit 2?
-All the other games suck. Play JJ2 instead!
-In the beta, the Electro-blaster origionally could not go through walls
-You can fire at angles with pepper spray. Just fire upward and the pepper spray will slowly arc it's way up!
-sugar rushes kill bosses on contact
-You can buy Jazz 1 at Epic Classics
-Piracy is stupid. BUY your copies of JJ2!
-The Blaster, Bouncer, Toaster, RF missles and TNT are the origional weapons from Jazz 1
-You should not do drugs, even though that Caterpillar in the Pych world enjoys it. :)

Doesn't work for me. As soon as I touch the activate boss event the sugar rush is away.

In JJ1, Lagunicus was originally going to be an area in Exoticus, but got split off for some unknown reason.

This might be revival, But I just have to tell you:...

The JJ2 Home-cooked levels list only lists 256 levels. any more and they are not included.

Violet CLM

The level link to Rabbit in Training is hardcoded into Jazz2.exe.
Pepper Spray and Electroblaster can destroy speed blocks.
There used to be four Battle and Race levels.
Diamsecr is probably the oldest surviving level.
Belts can move destruct scenery events.
Go <a href="http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/node.php?nodeID=82">here</a> if you want to buy Jazz games.
Carrotopolis is the only JJA location that does not reuse JJ2 tiles.
Dark Shell is Devan's father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate.

Wow, I honestly didn't knew some of the stuff Violet brought up.

I have some aswell (for some strange reason often having to do something with water):
-Dragonflies don't like water.
-The TSF cat enemy is the doggy dogg with a new look.
-Dragon's can't attack under water.
-Come to think of it: Fish don't work without water.
-Helmuts jump at you on hard difficulty mode. They don't on normal and easy.
-Normal Turtles make the game easier instead of harder.
-JJ3 won't come out.
-Epic won't give out the source code.
-Rocket Turtle can be controlled with the Area ID event.
-The ending text for the bolly boss has ID 0.
-The Queen works without the Activate Boss event.

What about Pollutus AKA Toxic Wasteland?

cooba
Feb 27, 2005, 10:18 AM
Frog was supposed to be able to eat enemies with its tongue.
Levels in OEM versions of JJ2 use .lev format and they were built up with MLLE instead of JCS.
In early versions of JJ2, you could kill people in Treasure Hunt.
JJ2's engine is insaneo powerful.
Letni, a planet from JJ1 holding a giant computer, is a reference to Intel.
Pageclaim. ;p

I don't think I saw this one yet...

DYK?: If you use Spaz's sidekick on a Jazz<->Spaz Morph in TSF, you revert to Jazz instead of becoming Lori?

Found that on my own...

If frog touches the Float Up event, it will float upwards endlessly, unless you'll unmorph or hit the ceiling.

Mar 4, 2005, 09:27 AM
FloatUp event affects the four tiles, the tile where it's placed on, one tile to the left, up, and up-left.

Using froggy and sucker-tube-events you can create nice ingame cutscenes.

DYK: This game is full of bugs, and you don't even have to try to find any, because there are so many bugs.

I compare this game's number of bugs to my l33t master photographing skills in GTA: SA....things just happen and that's what makes them possible.

*brings back the DYK*

DYK: You can avoid creating lag clones when a level cycles by not clicking fire. If you're stuck on a black screen, just rejoin the server.
