It's a bug. That bothers me sometimes.

I always thought it was a button I pressed.

I think it has to do with lag. The text doesn't reach the server so you can't see it.

If you backspace farther then the first letter then type, the words will not show up. :P

I don't recall this happening to me, but it sounds like it's probably a bug.

Same here. I call it text lag. I find it happens most on laggy servers (500MS or more), but it happens in other cases too. I'm not sure what causes it, but I am pretty sure that it has nothing to do with the text not reaching the server. I know that because sometimes I get it while I am hosting a game. My theroy is that it has something to do with the connection to the other players, and not the connection to the server.

Actually, like Unknown Rabbit said, it happens when you press backspace beyond the beginning of the text to chat. It has nothing to do with lag.
And, even if the text doesn't reach the server, your chat text always comes up, client-wise.

Just so you don't think ElectroPiZZa and I are saying weird stuff, I HAVE tested this.

I already knew about the backspace thing. I have had it happen to me even if I don't press backspace at all.

That happens to me, and its not just when I backspace past the beginning. Sometimes if you just backspace a whole lot, I think, it will do it...but I'm not sure..

When you press backspace at the beginning, you're actually erasing something similar to a console command in UT. Think of it like that. ;-P
