1999 definitely. I had loads of fun playing TSF, being in tons of clans and all. And I made Rabbits Only together with Electric and Ninja Dodo. Maybe that site will return one day... *newspaz presses the submit button with mysterious music on the background*

Hard to say. Myself I had most fun in 1999 myself, but 2003 was the best year for my clan.

The main contenders have got to be 1998 and 1999. Everything was new, everyone was discovering things, new friends were being made across the world, and there was maximum support from Epic. 1999 started trailing at the end, though, with Christmas Chronicles being postponed and postponed, so J2C beats J2O and 1998 beats 1999.

This thread needs a poll. Even though I would end up not voting.

Anyway, 1994 was for me also a Jazzy year, because i got the shareware demo on my first computer!! Yes, i was only 4 years. :O
I got JJ2 in 1998 but i hadn't internet, until i had it, i visited the J2C site many times for level updates, later in the J2O, i did the same for a while... ;)
And i really joined this site in August 2004, and i had a great time this "half" year!

I was too much of a noob in 1999 to enjoy anything from that year. :p For me it was at the end of 2000, when I first started playing MP seriously.

For me it was 2003 I guess, since that year I started playing online seriously.
I played a while in 1998/1999 but after a short period I stopped since I couldn't connect to the listservers anymore.

ohh well the year of 98, before the list server crashes in 99(i think) was when i had alot of fun in 666. When i came back after the listserver crash there was less people and alot of my old friends were gone...
But when I joined GpW in 99 things became fun again.
Looking it clanwise 99-2001 were the years of pure pwnage, 2002 was a year of disaster, 2003 and 2004 are basicly rebuilding the old glory (looking purely on jj2 the rehabilitation is already done).

Discovering everything in 2002, when I started playing JJ2 online (Spring), was an unforgettable time. And 2003 was the most interesting year for Polish clans.

I think I enjoyed the game most in 2000. That was when I joined clans and starting knowing people. But I enjoyed\appreciated the JJ2 community the most in 2004, when I started to make other friends and worked on J2Ov2. I also enjoyed 2001-2002 when J2HG was active.
Really I liked all the years that I've been part of this community, just for different reasons.

Today is my 5th year anniversairy of playing JJ2 *sniff*
ok, back on topic.
My best year was i'd say 1999 when i sorta lost my "noobishness" and started to become a serious player. Oftentimes there were usually 8 servers up. Sometimes up to 16 or 20. *sigh* ahhhh those were the good days. The J2C was in its late days and J2O was starting to form. I'd definitely say 1999 was the best year overall for new beggingings,
But.. i'd say the last 2 years were also good for older players who have earned more experince and learned a few things about JCS.
So that my long tirade about which was my personal best year.
Merry Christmas or HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

No time for nostaliga...we must focus on the future and spread JJ2! Spread it like wildfire! Amazing rumours must travel swifter than the north winds! Post about JJ2 and enchant ppl with stories about the game at other forums! Tell your friends, your enemies, your family and all the strangers on the street! JJ2 hasn't even reached the top of the hill!

2002, since thats when I really started playing online, then probably 2003 (Probably my best JDC season), then 2001 (I got my JJ2 late that year, didnt do much but still memories) then 2004, since not much was left for me to discover this year, and I got other games.

It's hard to say. In 1999 is when I was seriously always working on the Rabbit Hole and also when I was very ambitious to do quality things in JJ2. I released SXR that year and began experimenting with tilesets.
However, I think in 2000 I was very active with other websites and learning stuff from people like Alienator for graphics. I also was still enjoying making levels but not releasing them, except a single battle level. And somewhere in there the Rabbit Hole went down and I started working on Jzinx.com. Then in 2001 I began making spiffyjuice, and in 2002 j2o began hosting, which was great. #jj2 was also a ton of fun during those years. I also began making fairly decent tilesets and conversions and in 2003 released another level pack, maybe my last. But then in 2004 I began making Tickbot.
So after all of the babbling I can't say which year was the best. At first I thought 1999 but now I'm thinking somewhere on or between 2001-2004. Hm.

98-2000 were my "active" playing years (My timezone is GMT +8).
These were also the times I messed around with the game heavily. Using software similar to Softice, I modified parts of the memory for health and weapons (similar to what a trainer would do for single player) and in 1999, before J2HG was around, I got hacking information from TheE (how to remove the password in a jcs level by resetting two bytes using good old DOS Debug), the ability to break into passworded servers using Everlasting's GJP and knowing how to get into a passworded server without using any program other than jazz2 (Big thanks to Cheeze). I did some unreleased bad stuff on my own like modifying the JCS executable to open any and all passworded levels. I also enjoyed hacking wars with Roaster but the biggest and possibly best thing I ever saw was Kazooie LJ's (now known as Kaz) antipode (can't reveal more information on this but it kicks the (-) of even the best stuff today).
2000 was the time when I was a bonafide Spaztic wannabe (I still partly am a Tic wannabe today), if Hotmail didn't periodically reset inactive accounts, I would still have the email of some guy mistaking me for Spaztic (I think it's because I had a link to his website in my signature).
Best battle was when I saw defalcon roast Bluez in Bluez's server and best CTF was when Kaz and I beat stripe (using everything at our disposal).

It's difficult to decide but if I had to pick a year, it would be 1999.

Great... Now I want to learn about this "antipode" thing, considering how unlikely it is for something made several years ago to be better than most things made today.
Anyway, my favorite year just might be 2001 because that was when I first joined JDC (season 5), as well as many other participants. Season 5 was the first and last time (as far as I can tell) that Roast Tag was hosted in an event--one of my favorite events despite the fact it's hard to keep score. After that season I dueled less and less, but I made more and more levels for the events.
2001 was also the year Agama released all four of her tilesets, which could be considered to be the best sets ever made for JJ2. Good times.

It is likely, I saw Kaz's tools in action in 2000 and I repeat it is likely. The game was released in 1998 and that gives enough time to almost fully explore the game. Kaz's tools can do almost everything except prevent getting banned from a server (maybe he achieved this? I never got too see the final version in action).
If you really want to learn about this "antipode" thing, then ask Kaz via PM to learn about the antipode and what his tools could do. I don't have the right to reveal information on this, mainly because I don't know the full extent of the power of the tools and because its better to hear it from the maker himself. If you're lucky, he'll reply.

Btw, I don't mean to disrespect any of the programmers who've played with JJ2 with any of what I said, especially Overlord and Link.

I've never even heard of these "Kaz's Tools" or "Antipode" before. BTW, why do all list server programs, show the servers up as being 1.21, when everyone is basically using the 1.23 patch.

I've never even heard of these "Kaz's Tools" or "Antipode" before.
Of course you wouldn't have; As far as I know, Kaz never released any of his work because far too many children would use it irresponsibly (i.e. instead of testing how this would work on a level they made, they'd spread it and do mass cheating).

You mean URCT, right? United Rabbit Crack Troops? Heh, I remember them. Was a pretty good clan.
For me, it'd probably be around 2002, since that was when I was finally getting good at playing and levelmaking, and was getting to know everyone in the community.

Everyone thinks different then others, so that means all years of Jazz Jackrabbit where good but for some the best was 1999 and for others 2000... :-)
So you see, Jazz's time isn't over, and sometimes there is coming a new member, like me, in summer 2004. :D

About late 2003. For some reason plenty of players from israel, as we know them, are R3ptile, AvK, Skull, Kakashi and others started playing. They added the challenge to JJ2 I've always wanted and it was just great.
There were very few irritatingly picky oldies (and I emphasize irritating) who would be talking about how they liked things in the old and less sophisticated days of jj2. DW wasn't hosted much, in fact, the only person I recall hosting it was Turtleslayer, and even he was trying other levels.

I liked 2002 best I guess. I hardly played online and didn't find out about the community until the moment Jazz 2 City died (and the JMMB), and in 2001 I was too busy staring around blankly and trying to figure out what this community stuff was. In 2002 however, I got to know the people here a bit better, went on some sort of duel vendetta with Cell in JDC (nothing bad of course, we just played each other quite a lot of times with usually close results) and if I recall correctly, the TT/J2F merge took place in 2002 as well. So yeah, 2002 was the most fun I guess, although I have no complaints about the other years.
