People who hack other stuff with permission, or just plain for fun. Are total (-). And besides, most hackers don't even know how to talk. They probably speak noobish. But what the heck, just.. Strives them to hack? Do they want to act like (-)?

Am I the only one who thinks these messages on GIP shouldn't be used to potentially destroy other people on JJ2?

No. I'd take it down, but Nimrod or someone would only put it back up again. (Assuming I can take it down... never tried.)

So, would you mind if I'd hack your PC and delete all your stuff?

As nothing's wrong with hacking, I might just do that for fun.

Define "hacking".

Sonyk

Hacking is bad. Hacking is illegal if what I know about these internet security laws Bill Clinton passed. Hacking is not something cool to do in your spare time. It ruins peoples computers, which is now their life. And these people don't really hack, they just use malicious programs that real hackers made and attempt to threaten our small community.

And bumping topics is almost as bad as hacking.

Ugh, you're all mashing definitions.

The hacking you're talking about is totally different than gamehacking, which has nothing to do with entering other people's computers.

Finally we agree on something hacking is neither illegal nor wrong if it is contained within the bounds of your own property (network/computer etc.). anyone who thinks otherwise is a n00b

A lot of people that use kazaa think that they are "1337 hax0rZ"

And in some test I saw on a government (UK) website it was made apparent that hackers and people that make viruses are (officially) "mostly 17 year olds in their parents basement with nothing better to do with their lives" I'll try and find it again and give a link.

Not true at all that's where you fools across the pond are wrong. But, atleast we american cats play with guns when we are little so we don't have to pretend on the net we have kevlar vests and are in the service. :P Hackers are all ages just like computer users are all ages most of us have lives, but didn't when we were n00bs. I myself don't spend much time on my computer anymore what with the getting out and hanging with the ladies and all.

Marine1969
Apr 11, 2005, 10:51 AM
So you're denying the existance of 17 year old 'hackers'

White Rabbit
Apr 11, 2005, 10:54 AM
I think he is and perhaps he can prove that most hackers are 18-year-olds with nothing better to do with their lives. ;P

So, you're saying you're a hacker? As in a hack into things and ruinn peoples lives and computers hacker, which is the most used varient of the word hacker as far as I know.

dictionary.com
1. One who is proficient at using or programming a computer; a computer buff.
2. One who uses programming skills to gain illegal access to a computer network or file.

7. A programmer for whom computing is its own reward; may enjoy the challenge of breaking into other computers but does no harm; "true hackers subscribe to a code of ethics and look down upon crackers"

9. A person who enjoys exploring the details of
programmable systems and how to stretch their capabilities, as
opposed to most users, who prefer to learn only the minimum
necessary.

10. One who programs enthusiastically (even obsessively) or who
enjoys programming rather than just theorizing about
programming.

12. A person who is good at programming quickly.
13. An expert at a particular program, or one who frequently
does work using it or on it; as in "a Unix hacker".

16. A malicious meddler who tries to discover
sensitive information by poking around. Hence "password
hacker", "network hacker". The correct term is cracker.

The term "hacker" also tends to connote membership in the
global community defined by the net (see The Network and
Internet address). It also implies that the person
described is seen to subscribe to some version of the hacker
ethic.

It is better to be described as a hacker by others than to
describe oneself that way. Hackers consider themselves
something of an elite (a meritocracy based on ability), though
one to which new members are gladly welcome. Thus while it is
gratifying to be called a hacker, false claimants to the title
are quickly labelled as "bogus" or a "wannabee".
/dictionary.com

There. Hacker is the wrong term if you are trying to be malicious. The correct term is Cracker.

Cracker <> Hacker
Cracker = one who creates viruses, and cracks others computers to mess them up.
Hacker = one who likes to program and poke the intricate workings of other peoples programs.

There, now continue the discussion using the correct terminology.

You are below average intelligence! (self Flame removal) What kind of person has to flaunt being in the military around to try to look cool. I would guess it's the only way you Brits can have guns legally, but we americans don't need to flaunt our being in the military around because we can buy and use guns legally (without permit if the are of certain type). So please don't insult people you have no idea about you don't know me don't pretend you do. You are not cool and nobody of importance thinks you are cool. And by the way you brits have a poor military we saved your butts in WWI and WWII.

Uh-huh, military has been my entire life, and no one in england cares about owning "guns" (gun actually refers to an artillery piece or main tank cannon)

And even if I am below average intelligence, who was I insulting? (I actually don't remember insulting anyone)

And also, I know I'm not cool, but England has the best trained military in the world, it may not be very big, and we don't have very good equipment, but we ahve the best training which allows us to not get killed left and right.

And we don't have constant friendly fire incidents like the americans.
