Hi I'm new here, if that entails the usual newbie flaming so be it :P

Anyways I decided to turn here to ask how the experts go about ripping sprites from JJ2 and JJ:TSF, I plan to make Jazz into a mugen character.
If alot of Jazz's sprites are already ripped, I ask where they are and if I can use them for my project. Right now I'm using the F12 button, it's very slow >_<

Most of the sprites I will have to edit or draw myself, but I would really like having all of Jazz's sprites available to me.

For those who don't know, mugen is a fighting game engine created by a long dead software company, Elecbyte (site dead)
More info here, the forum I hail from.

Any help would be appreciated!

Most people just use the F12 key for whatever they need. There are currently no archives of sprites available to the public.

Well that stinks :P

At least is there a way to set the animation that Jazz plays? I've tried hacking it using artmoney but to no avail, the best I could do was locking which idle animation he goes into.

Doubble Dutch has the JJ1 sprites; check the "Jazz 1 enemy sprites" or whatever thread a little down the page. As for the JJ2 ones... get used to F12.

An easier way for the F12 ripping is to get the Cheq tileset and use the
'white' tiles, then afterwards just use a recolor technique to remove thw 'white'

I have no problem cleaning screenies after I get them, It's just that I can't tell how many frames are in an animation and I can't slow down the game without slowing down my whole system.

Edit:

When and if I get my sprites ripped, I'll release em, don't worry :)

Edit2:
145 screenshots later...

As you can see, this is far from done, I don't even know whether or not they are in the correct order :P

I could give my Jazz VS Sonic sprites if I'll find them... somewhere... dang, I almost forgot about this project.

Well, I'll do everything I can to advance my project in the absence of pre-ripped sprites.

In other news...

Most of Lori's sprites are actually available at Lori Central (in larger form, even). I don't think her kicking one is there, though.

Too bad I don't need any more Lori sprites, she's just gonna jump in, do her kick, and jump out of the way.

I can't get to Lori Central anyway, says its moving to a faster server.

Sorry for the double post, but I need to ask for some help.

http://www.newwavemugen.com/~aokmaniac13/misc/jazz1.pnghttp://www.newwavemugen.com/~aokmaniac13/misc/jazz2.png

Current status:

All gethit sprites assembled
All movement sprites assembled
Gunless/Normal feature implemented
Standing WP and Crouching WK added :D

What needs to be done:

The rest of his basic moves
Weapon sprites ripped
SOUNDS
Programming his gun

So I need all of Jazz's sounds from JJ2 and all of the weapon sounds as well, is there any place I can easily find these? Or does someone have them?

Go to http://www.eckhart.da.ru/razz/, download the game, rename the pk3 files to .zip files, extract and search them for the sounds.

And there's a sprite ripper somewhere here on JCF, but I can't find it with the search. I'll look for it.

EDIT: Oh look, bird sprites:

EDITv2:

The sprite ripper. To rip sprites, tell me when the game is finished.

At some point in the game, Jazz must have grown fabulously rich and could afford to throw golden diamonds at baddies.

EDIT: Those red eyes in the screenshot...are they from Brainfart or your avatar? :p

I can't say that would be soon, but I'd be happy to give you all a decent beta soon.

Also, I found the upgraded blaster shot and the fire from Jazz's gun, somehow I missed them. I added them to my spritesheet. As for those crate remains, they were stuck between some TNT sprites and those swirly things, so I figured they might be some kind of weapon :p (hmmm maybe I should actually play the game more sometime...)

I think the swirly things were the projectile for the blade gun from the beta, but I'm not sure because I don't have it and all.

Ah mugen, gotta love it.

I've collected all the JJ2 sprites I've found into one neat little package. Its nothing much, but maybe it has some stuff you don't. Besides, its only a Meg. http://levellord.toxicsheep.com/jj2spr.zip

If anyone knows of some sprites I missed, please tell me.

I like how you included the sheets I ripped :sugoi: (best smiley ever, surprised you guys don't have it)

Edit: http://www.mugenguild.com/forumx/Smileys/mfg/sugoi.gif

Edit2: I don't see Lori's dash kick on the sheet in your archive, if someone could get those sprites I'd be greatful.

Edit3: Upon further inspection of the sprites, I find that they are all worthless. They have been ripped using 16-bit color, which doesn't quite work for what I need. All the sprites I'm using are 8-bit, so that the palette works correctly.

I like this project, JJ2 sprites are quiet similar to Sonic Battle's sprites. With some edit on the colors of them, there should be a really cool Jazz vs. Sonic project. ;-) By the way what is it will be? JJ chars against each other?
By the way, I'm using mugen too, and I'm a member and some kind of co-leader of that Project X (X-Men Project). I'm doing spriting job, just didn't worked much in the past months. ((-), I'm not that tough as other spriting guys, who can finish a fully edited capcom style character in a half year period)
I was wanted to make a JJ project with gamemaker few years ago, but I gave up, Here's what remained (maybe, it will help a bit):
http://img492.imageshack.us/img492/6256/jj2turtle6fk.png
Just the simple walk anim of the normal turtle, and a very simple sprite edit on that turtle. (gun drawed by me, this is why it's sux  )
I've got some ripped sprites of Jazz too, but I'm sure you already have them.
Upon further inspection of the sprites, I find that they are all worthless. They have been ripped using 16-bit color, which doesn't quite work for what I need. All the sprites I'm using are 8-bit, so that the palette works correctly.
Do the next: Download the 8 bit image into photoshop. Save the palette as an ACT file. Load the 16 bit image. Dump the colors into 8 bit with using you're saved palette, and that will work! ;-)

You do know Sonic Battle is 32-bit, right? =P

BTW, which characters will be in this?

You do know Sonic Battle is 32-bit, right? =P
Are you joking? :p I don't know how much bit the whole graphic is with the 3d stuffs, but I know the sprites has about 10 ten colors, and they can be really easily can be stored in 8-bit (256 colors). By the way this is why sonic battle chars works in mugen without color loosing, because mugen uses 8bit colors for the sprites. Even Guilty Gear XX's sprites can be stored in 256 colors. ;-)

ThunderPX

The GBA is capable of 32 bits, the actual character sprites just don't use as much individually. If you've ever done any programming or hacking on older consoles, you'll find that changing a single color in the main character's pallette can screw up a lot of other objects in the level, because of the limited amount of colors.

It is by tileset palette editing. ;D
