lets make a tournament!
everybody will build up a level in which world he wants, the best level will win
upload your level and give us a link for the level download
at the end we will do a and anyone will do a poll, vote for their favorite level
i will make a level too
rules:
1. the level should be ready untul monday!!!
2. the prize- the winners name will be written on the front of the page, and he will recieve a signiture from me (I am good in photoshop) and it will have the writing: I am the winner in the JCS compatision"
Edit:
Just fixed some errors. Actually, they're 3 days, Chip. But that's off-topic. I think it's ridiculous to create a level in 3 days. It would be an un-betatested level.
The Levels:
....
The Jcsingboys (The Name :-) ):

Anyway, you can't make ANY level that you want since it must include enemies.

There aren't any clear rules, no prizes, and the deadline is in TWO DAYS. I won't expect much that way.

Question: Does the level have to be a JJ2 level? Could it be JJ1, or Battery Check?
Question: What counts as an enemy? Is Caterpillar an enemy?

The not-include enemies rule makes me in this contest.

Afaik, it's darn hard to make a high-quality lvl for a high-quality competition like this. In the end, the contest will be won by someone who makes the least crappy lvl because singleplayer lvls do take longer than multiplayer ones. I don't want to compete because I don't want to deliberately rush and come up with something bad.

What he wants to say is if a level should be special and have quality, you need lots of time which I agree with.

I kind of disagree. It's really easy to slap stuff together. It's an actual level design that's the hard part.

So what do you suggest? I think you better suggest some new rules.

Nothing against the rules, just some more time. A month would be long enough I think.
Violet, how long did it take you to make an FSP level? Some of them use quite advanced stuff, I don't think you figured all that stuff out in one week. ;)

i give ya\you three week's.
Okey?
DarkSonic
Feb 11, 2005, 04:37 AM
That's good enough. I have to make a level for another contest as well, so I have no problems with three weeks.

I haven't made any kind of level in JCS forever.....
but this would be fun..
I'm in..
Just a quick re-cap because I'm kind of confused.
The rules are
1) Make a level.....whatever we want? Single player or not?
2) Can it be custom tilesets or do we have to stick with the officials?
3) When is the due-date exactly and where should we send them?

The only question which I have since it wasn't fully answered:
Can we make the levels for Batterycheck?(BC)
Either way, I'm entering the contest

Point. But everything in FSP went through a number of revisions (Remember the area in Nature Castle with all the swinging vines? Originally, the spikes were also lava pits.), unlike most of what I do which is just basically build something and leave it like that. Still, much of the technical stuff was planned before the levels were built.

What's with the fascination for making levels that everyone can't play? JJ1 levels are one thing, but Battery Check?
n00b
Feb 11, 2005, 07:27 PM
Download the Battery Check demo, using the demo's events and JCS 1.0, create a level and then change the filename to demo.j2l, and then run the demo. Viola, everyone-playable custom Battery Check level. Only extra thing needed would be a custom tileset/music file if used.

I had a feeling you might say that. I'm guessing you don't realize how inconvenient all of that is. Also, allowing Battery Check levels would make the playing field more uneven than it already is. But whatever, it's not my contest. I don't have to worry about judging BC or JJ1 levels.

I hated that swinging vine part. >.<
Still, even if someone tries out "technical stuff" (let's just call it like that) and then makes levels he needs more time than a week. ;-)
However, the deadline has been extended to three weeks, which should be enough to make a decent level.
