View Full Version : Anniversary Bash VII

"Any volunteers who'd like to put together the level packs for Jazz2's seventh birthday? Or people who'd like to host the servers? Please apply here and we'll contact you."

(I would like to organize the packs again, it was really fun to do that last year. :H)

I'll agree with any Bash Organizer, as long as:
- The compiler is neutral (does not only pick levels from certain countries or levelgroups)
- The compiler ONLY picks levels from the past JJ2 Year (which means, from April 2004 to April 2005)

I think R3ptile would be pretty good in this job because I was quite satisfied with last year's Bash.

I like this idea. Too many bashes have had levels like DW in BBLair which were made ages before the year we were celebrating.

(Or are we celebrating the year to come? In that case, we should only pick levels made in the year after the bash...)

I don't think including a few "traditional" favourites is so bad. The Anniversary Bash's are partly celebrating another year of Jazz, but they're also celebrating Jazz2 itself being released. But then again, I probably won't get to play much so whatever.

R3ptile
Mar 1, 2005, 01:10 AM
In my opinion, including the same old levels isn't needed. We got almost all of them in every bash except the sixth. Anyway, I'll be glad to create the packs again as I mentioned in my first post.

I expect Nimrod to host the dedicated server again, and I also hope that Shadow will bring that Anniversary Bash radio, that was really awesome. ;P

Must agree with Chip and with the bash-radio. Just don't pick too much of the old favourites. They're overhosted and anyone who doesn't like the coming ab7-pack, may host his/her favorites him/herself.
Didn't even get why was dw put into ab5...Everyone has that level and just a fix of border and shield-removing doesn't make it that much better, imo.

So, I guess Rep should be let to organize this one as well. Last one was quite well done, although elmsjgca for example wasn't from that year and shouldn't have been in it. Avoid these.

@Snow
The annual Anniversary Bash, is being hosted every year on anniversary of release of JJ2's demo, which is April 7th. There are levelpacks supposed to be hosted, and someone (like R3p did yesteryear) must manage the levelpacks' progressing. And here we go again...

DarkSonic
Mar 1, 2005, 05:48 AM
Yay, a topic about AB7 already. I don't want to make the packs - I am probably too biased and include some of my levels. I think I have a great chance to have a level in the pack. =D If I won't get some level in, I am unhappy.
And btw, that radio really rocked, although I haven't heard alot last year. I agree with Chip's ideas as well. This gives me about 99% chance to get a level in.

White Rabbit
Mar 1, 2005, 07:44 AM
Some old lvls that were pretty good but not in any ABs should be put in this year's AB unless a decision is made that prevents it. I'm ok with pretty much any decent lvl in the AB pack unless they've already been in previous packs. Btw, I'll help you guys to pack!! ;)

DarkSonic

What would fit better with a AB7 pack than levels of the Packy Pack? =D.
Or something else... I'm quite sure XLM has some levels in.

I'd be very willing to create the packs this year. I understand what the oldies as well as the more recently involved players want. I would balance the packs with classic levels as well as newer, high quality levels.

I would say try to have a new pack creator every year. Last bash pack was by Blackraptor (JJ1 bash), bash before by R3ptile. Before that it was Newspaz AFAIK. All were well created btw, you guys rock. You could also see if various people (who are good in communicating with eachother) working together to compile the levels list works. Then one person could create the actual pack.

Blackraptor
Mar 1, 2005, 03:06 PM
I made the JJ1 packs? Heh, barely remember that. 100 CTF levels and 115 battle (and like 18 treasure ;()

I really enjoyed Bash Radio last year, I listened to it for hours =P.

(BlurredD and Trafton go by unnoticed for their AB contributions)

Just as well, since I didn't have enough time to fix the level selection for AB5. There were a few requests to include classic levels, so I submitted. That's when I came up with the idea that if classics are going to be included, it can't be the same ones used before in other AB pack.

Superjazz
Mar 2, 2005, 07:32 AM
I heard that Blur and Evilmike organized ab5 together? So, should we have multiple organizers this year also. Something from 2 to 4 organizers could think very well how they like of some levels together and then one of them would just make the pack from a preplanned list. That might be a better idea than a single organizer instead, so we would make more people glad who are willing to help in the pack-making.

By the way Rep, you once said that "The Tides of Marsh", which I originally finished for a jdc-event that early, would be surely in ab7. Hehe, so if you get to organize this pack, remember to put in that level at least, as it wasn't accepted to the jdc-event after all then, due to I was too late or something. Blah, I just always miss important things here at jazz2-community. Ok, I'm not forcing you to that but at least think about it, if you'll be an organizer. Filename was: "sjmarshb.j2l" It was a battle-level btw. And likely have a look of my other levels.

And then some other levels than mine, that I would recommend to be in ab7. Some of them might already have been nominated, but whatever:

Battle levels:
-Garden Brawl by FireSworD
-Tube Dreams by Snooze
-Tall Towers by EvilMonkey
-Toasted Territory by Satan
-Evilmike's Evil Fortress by Evilmike

CTF levels:
-X-Station by DarkSonic
-Mort Myre by Labratkid
-Deserted Paradise by Snooze
-Divide And Conquer by BlurredD
-Ragnarok's Stronghold by Ragnarok
-Sanctuary by CelL
-Apocalyptic Afterworld by Magoo
-Clipboard Chaos by Snooze
-Lemon Nightmare by Blackraptor
-Wonderfull Waterfalls by Satan

As you see, it's a lot easier to find decent ctf-levels than decent battle-levels. Battle-levels just aren't that interesting to make or there it's harder to make them more original, or such. There might have been more of decent levels at the jj2-community finished or uploaded, so those ones were just some good examples.

I guess you others could nominate some examples if you also know levels you like and which would fit ab7.

R3ptile
Mar 2, 2005, 08:08 AM
What about a FS vs. Rep poll =D?
Nah, that would be evil and insulting. Just let the AB7 organizers decide (whoever they are).

Picking the same overplayed levels would be really boring since they were put in every bash so far except the sixth one. I think that only the best levels from April 2004 to April 2005 should be put, but that's only my opinion.

I would say try to have a new pack creator every year.
Sorry, but I simply cannot agree. People who did such a good job in prior Anniversary Bashes and want to do that again so badly really deserve it. For example, Nimrod is arguably the best host we're able to get and that's why he deserves to host the AB again. Anyway, that's only my opinion (as I mentioned before) and there will be always people who disagree. :H

I heard that Blur and Evilmike organized ab5 together?
As far as I know, BlurredD and Trafton did.

Well, there are still some CTF/Battle levels I don't see in your list and are quite good imo, SJ. And some levels no-one posted about... example :

CTF levels:

Technodus Cargo Station by Ragnarok
Winter Melody by CelL
Sacrifice by CelL
Twisted Winds/Haunted Castle/Lord Lemon (at least one of them, because imo they're the best of the pack SuperJazz)
X-Station is a good level, but maybe too small. I think I prefer Street Pass no. 1 over that, if there is going to be a level by me in.
Anarchy Inn. Or was it in the last bash?
This level is... Cold! COLD!!!! by EvilMike
Merry Hypothermia by Enigma

Battle levels :

Ragnarok's Fortress by Ragnarok
Abandoned Robotics Factory by FireSworD
Decrepit Ruins by LRK.
I think these are my ideas.

And yes, Chip, any level by you would be good =P

Btw, could someone send Divide And Conquer?

Did you read that? I mean, that I actually just randomly chose some good examples, not that they're the only ones. Oh, and I was too lazy to look at the TSF-ones, although there even wasn't many which would have had a high rating.

But probably TSF ones shouldn't be count because the server in ab7 should be changing all the time if there was 1.23 and 1.24 levels mixed.

CTF :

Technodus Cargo Station - Ragnarok
Medieval Skyscrapers - FireSworD
NotSB - DarkSonic
Demonic Home - Satan
Clipboard Chaos - Snooze
Lemon Nightmare - Blackraptor
25000 miles above the Earth - Satan
African Lowlands - Snooze
X Station - Darksonic
Bay of Diamonds - ChippieBW
Twisted Winds - SuperJazz
DarkSonic's Fortress - Darksonic
Ragnarok's Stronghold - Ragnarok
Efil Castle wid Waterz lols - ChippieBW
Divide and Conquer - BlurredD
Merry Hypothermia - Enigma
One spot - FireSworD
Surreal Landscapes - FireSworD
Sacrifice - CelL
Pie rocks! - Satan

That is 20 I can think of.. Now for Battle:

Jagged EctoPlasm - Labratkid
Forgotten Castle - Snooze
EvilMike's Evil Fortress - Evilmike
Abandoned Robots Factory - FireSworD
Cold Cavern - UrJazz and BlackRaptor
Ragnarok's Fortress - Ragnarok
Decrepit Ruins - LabRatKid
Golradir - CMDR Cats
Garden Brawl - FireSworD
E-Prime - BlurredD

Thats 10.. I hope this helped.. ;O

Actually... I would like to organise it ;D

I find the lists a bit... weird. It's not that I am asking for a list full of XLM/my levels, but alot of levels are still forgotten.
1. The list with the Battle levels has some levels that aren't worth this list imo. Is that Bobo Meets Reality just a joke or is it really a good level?
2. The CTF list has none of SuperJazz's pack, and imo that pack had some levels that are good enough for AB7.
3. CelL said he was going to add a level of me for sure, what happened? Did FS dislike it or something?
4. I can agree with old levels like Happy Canyon, but not with JAIL aka Happy Castle.
5. I am sad.

Believe it or not, but I agree with the list entirely. It should be fun, especially since all the oldies will know a lot of the levels. And isn't that the purpose of Anniversary Bash packs? Getting older and newer players into a server where the playing field is even should lead to fun had by all. The classics are all great choices, too. I can sense the nostalgia already. IMHO, AB7 should be especially fun, and possibly one of the best. I know I'll enjoy it, and so should you.

Let's see what I think of the levels.. one-by-one.
Battle levels :
1. Carrotus Squash : definitely a classic. Unmissable.
2. Green Beret : Good old level that I haven't played alot.
3. What is this ?! : Good new level, also unmissable.
4. Rainy Rain Forest : probably a good level, haven't played this yet.
5. Burning Desert : Old level by Blade? Probably one of the levels out of his pack.
6. Higher Fragging Rate : Good level. No problem.
7. Shine-o-rific Land : Good old level, no problem.
8. EvilMike's Hidden Temple : Played this in JB version, and I have no problem with it.
9. Bobo Meats Royalty : This is probably a joke.
10. Battle in the Castle : A level that was in AB6 as well, but I find it a good level.
11 // MyStIc FoReSt CaVe : Another old level that's a bit confusing.
12 // The Dark Fortress : Good level, but it was in AB5 as well.
13 // Plastic Fortress : Dunno alot about this level.
14 // Forsaken : Great level, has to be in.
15 // Toxic Waste : I don't know alot about this level.
16 // EvilMike's Evil Fortress : Great level, has to be in for sure.
17 // Miniature Battle1 : Too small.
18 // Villian Village : Unknown level for me, haven't seen this alot.
19 // Where Warrior Falls : Another old level that's a bit unknown.
20 // Cold Mini Battle : ?
CTF levels :
01 // Bloodbunny's Lair : Very old level and very overplayed. Was in AB3 and 5 as well.
02 // Happy Canyon CTF : Old level, but I understand why it's in and I have no problem with it.
03 // GEMneric CTF : Quite unknown level for me. But I have played this sometimes.
04 // Medieval Skyscrappers : One of my favourite levels.
05 // Sanctuary : Unmissable level.
06 // Slab RatZ : Good level, but could be a bit too small.
07 // One Silvery Penny : Fun level.
08 // Quasar Quandary : Only XLM level in the list, but a good choice.
09 // Surfs Up CTF : Nice level, it's one of the underplayed old levels.
10 // Clipboard Chaos : I understand why this is in. And I have no problem with it.
11 // Sacrifice : Good level that almost won the JJ2WC contest.
12 // Ext Morse : Is this that Space Warbase level? That's quite small.
13 // Apocalyptic Afterworld : Nice level that has to be in.
14 // 7th Lava Fall : Way too big level in my opinion, and a bit confusing.
15 // Anarchy Inn : This deserves to be in.
16 // Glowing Poison : Bit weird layout, but original level.
17 // Happy Castle : Too many dead ends, and it was in AB3 and 5.
18 // Fiersome Flaggin' : Haven't played this alot lately.
19 // Fright Night CTF : Big level, but it's good enough.
20 // Diamondus Warzone : Some people hate it, some people love it. It's very old and overplayed.

Conclusion : A list with old levels and new levels that are mostly by OLC members. No levels out of SuperJazz's pack, or one of my levels in.

If Bashes should be all about nostalgia, then I don't see why we should compose a new pack every year.

Probably people just don't ever get a note of my levels as they're so unknown and...yeah, not many really like them or remember to even look at them. I can probably deal with that, and I would gladly end this post into here but there's something I really wonder;

No XLM-levels except Chip's QQ. No levels by me, Rag or DS. This sounds some sort of biasedness already. After all I guess I trusted you, ab7-organizers in vain, and I wouldn't call that amount of old levels(before ab6), just a few. More than half of the levels were older than ab6, and probably this could be one reason why there weren't more XLM-levels, or so.
That's something what makes me dislike this pack. This looks a lot worse than last year's, and I'm not writing this cause none of my levels were in, but how could somebody be so cruel that include something like Diamondus Warzone after putting it into nearly every Ab-pack. No thanks, this makes me kinda angry already.

Superjazz

I would call this rather kind of celebrating that the oldies left and they're no more than that we celebrate what have we achieved this year and that jj2 is still alive.
A real wonder was that Garden Brawl wasn't in, this pack is really weird and I'm sure you made several people angry/sad cause all these overplayed levels.
If my levels are so unknown and non-popular, why did you include such older and non-popular levels then? They're from around year 5000 B.C.

Yeah, I know...old levels shouldn't be critized so toughly because they're so old and they were good some years ago. But the truth why new levels should be played more is that they get more modern and they just simply crush the old ones. In my opinion, hardly even 10% of the old levels are classics and very popular ones nowadays.

I was under the impression that FS and Cell would not choose any lvls that were in pervious AB packs. Any decent lvls that weren't in previous packs I approve of but that means I have little support for the list in general because of all the old lvls.

The lvls I am especially against is Diamondus Warzone, 7th Lava Fall, Where Warriors Fall, Evilmike's Evil temple, Shine-o-rific land and Carrotus Squash.

Hmmm... THe level list looks ok, could use some work, but I won't complain. What I find interesting is that some of you aren't liking it because it lacks levels from a specific level group, which I find absolutely absurd. I mean, there may have been a bit if bias when selecting the levels, who knows, but to complain just because none of your level group's levels were put in is a bit childish. And to go to as far to say that you will not go to AB7 because the level selection is horrible is also pretty childish because I see no reason not to go, even with bad levels you can have tons of fun. Obviously if you are so stubborn that you believe it will be bad and it can't be anything else than it's your own fault that you're not having having. Thats just my 2 cents.
It's not that I hate that there are almost no levels in from a specific level group, but I am just against some classics.

Only reason you are happy is that your level is in.

Anyway, yeah it is hard to organise things. BUT WHY OLD LEVELS?

1) If it is because we need to appreciate the oldies? - THEY DON'T APPRECIATE HALF OF US

2) If it is to remember old levels - WE PLAY THEM ALL THE TIME.

Anyway, I thought loads of other levels would be in, but I guess I was wrong.

Well, it could be fun, it depends on how you react to it. If you try to make it fun, it can be.

But keeping the official bash (as official as it gets because Epic has disowned us :p) on its own server woudl be best.

To try and cut down on the CTO's and such, a player limit of 12 has been set.

To help ensure free spaces are available, Players who are idleing will be kicked out by an automatic system run by Console.
(If you don't move within 2 minutes, you first get warned you are about to be kicked then if you still dont move you get kicked. Also, springs wont help you ;) )

We have been runnin the server like this for a while and its has been going well, enough players to make the game fun while not becoming so bad/laggy.

Inregards to downloadling, all we can do is urge Jazz'ers to download the Levels seen on the frontpage news on Jazz2online.com. Console will also broadcast this url throughtout the game for people who dont visit j2o. Over time more and more people will have the levels in there caches so it should only get better.

Although we do understand that downloaders are causing games to hang for long periods of time, making masses of lag for everyone playing there is nothing we can do at present. Just hang in there even if you end up CTO'ing. The server should fix itself eventually and you can rejoin. We are working on a block that should stop people downloading tilesets from the Server (main cause of Download Lag) but it is unlikely that this will be finished in time for this Bash.
Please people, just download the packs and dont ruin it for everyone else.

At popular times when the Bash server is full, you may find overflow servers being hosted. Enjoy.

I lie. Console is evil and wont send the tilesets to users anymore.
If is recommended you download the pack from www.jazz2online.com/bash7 before joining the server otherwise you may find it unjoinable. This should end Download lag (i hope)

Oh, and by the way. I liked the bash packs and stuff, but there weren't too many people most of the time. My fourth screenshot is made when there were alot of people. The 1st screenshot was randomly taken, but the 2nd screenshot was only made because I was playing in my own level. The 5th screenshot was made because of the people that said
I think I have played all levels, but I played some levels more than others and vice-versa. I wasn't playing most of the time in AB6, but I were definitely more active this year. And if I didn't say it, thanks for hosting, and of course I have to thank FS and CelL for the packs. So here is a nice thank you. =)

Haha, low detail for Lava Lagoon. ;) DS, you could've taken a screenshot of me, before left, in Bay of Diamionds. :p

The bash wasn't as hectic and frantic as some of the earlier bashes, like 3 or 4 (4 was especially confusing for me because of all those players...and because I missed Agama :p Or was that 3? Or 5? Nm), which is why I enjoyed it. You could turn JJ2 on or off at random and always have something to do and someone to see in the bash (except in the few times when the bash was deserted because of TSF test lvls, JJ2WC2 pre-games and "anti-bash" jazzers).

The only bad thing about this year's bash, I think, was the lag. Even with just 3-4 players (not including console or me) the game would lag incredibly and I would lose flags, get roasted/hurt without knowing about it. Fortunately, I was able to score a few roasts after I was supposed to be dead and lost all my power-ups. :D Another bad thing about this year's bash is that there were so many ppl online at times, and yet only a fraction were actually in the bash server. The rest where on tests, battle1, groundforce lvls, etc, which, to me, contradicts the point of anniversary bashes, where ppl are supposed to come together. The least complaint I have to voice with my insignificant mouth is that sometimes the bash WOULD get very popular but the player limit was never raised higher than 20, afaik, so not everyone could come. Also, the Bash troubleshooter server was pretty cool too, although I felt it needed a warp at the bottom, hehe. ;)

A big disappointment for me was to miss (gasp) my own lvl completely. I kept playing 'What is this?', '.', 'Rainy Rain Forest' like a dozen times and yet my lvl, along with a lot others, seemed to be on very, very little. I guess it's just bad timing on my part. :(

I got to see a lot of ppl. :) Er...yes, a lot of ppl, that's it. More than I could've dreamt of, hehe. A lot of newbies where there too and ppl I've never met in my life were playing which is not only nice cannon fodder in CTF games but also shows that JJ2 is going quite strong after all these years.

Thanks for reading. See you, er in 0.09 seconds, right after I've clicked 'Post Quick Reply'. :p

EDIT: Dohdohdoh. I forgot to thank Cell and FS for composing the pack. *thanks and waves* :) Oh, and of course I want to thank all the ppl, er, DS thanked because I'm too stupid to remember all the names. :D

Was an alright bash I guess. I enjoyed the battle more than the CTF because I was only there for mostly the battle. I was only there during the first part of the CTF and then I had to leave to buy ut2k4 and stuff and go on road trips the next day, so sadly I missed most the CTF. But I attended the Bash Treasure though ;D. I took several screenshots which I will link to and upload at a later time.

Edit: Oh yeah, it was really annoying how only a handfull of levels were really played intensely. Several levels I've played in at least 10 tiems in the bash, while others I didn't even get to play once (like Darker Insomnia by Booshi, and some of the levels in the 10s). For the CTF I especially missed like 3/4th the pack ;d.

I didn't even get to see E. Prime! :/

Btw, isn't ironic how the 10th anniversary bash will be one of JJ2's largest milestones and yet it will probably be enjoyed by the least players?

DarkSonic
Apr 12, 2005, 10:46 AM
I have played E.Prime in the first day, never played it after that. Although I played E.Prime twice with not alot of time between the 2 times. Or something.

Some levels I played alot were Rainy Rain Forest(not one of my favourite levels) and Villain Village.

The level I was not roasted in was Religion, and I won 2 times in Even Darker Insomnia.

I didn't like the fact that there weren't alot of players in the server when my level was played and I was in the server. Too bad ;/
I think I played long enough in the bash, I was probably one of the most active players in the server(probably not because I slept in the night =P) That's a reason why I'm not playing in some screenshots by Mono. Oh well. I can't play every single hour. The second day, I had connection problems till the end of the afternoon(in my country, it was around 16:30 or something)

My favourite levels of the pack that were not made by myself?
CTF : Religion, Technodus Cargo Station, Quasar Quandary.
Battle : EvilMike's Evil Fortress, Garden Brawl, E.Prime, The Corsair's Coast.
The shortest rounds were in Siege of the Past, which was the smallest CTF level of the pack, I believe.

I didn't play every level with alot of people. Too bad. I wish I'd play in some levels with alot of people, hehe.

A level I only liked because of the music was Merry Hypothermia. There were alot of people in the server when I played that level, like one of my screenshots is showing.

Overall, this shows this was a good bash, but only because of the levels, not the activity.

Well, anyway, I really like The Corsair's Coast. Still, I have to say I liked Battle More. I'm just bad at CTF. Fav levels...

Happy Valley CTF was my most fav. CTF level. Gosh, that one is really awesome. For Battle... The Corsairs Coast. Heh.

R3ptile
Apr 12, 2005, 11:05 AM
Although the battle server was great and I won most of the rounds, I got bored from the CTF one quickly for unknown reasons. Most of the classics were bad and people kept complaining about them, but Rainy Rain Forest and 24 Hour Coffee were surprisingly good. I also noticed that some oldies like Mezz are still in good shape and I wish they would keep "Jazzing" and not leave after the bash. Too bad.

My favorite level in the whole pack was "Battle Game" by Violet, an unusual battle (well, like duh) level compared to other, boring levels which are using concepts that I've seen thousand of times before.
