For those who don't know, "Heat Effect" and "Inside Plax" (Parallax?) are two tile types which can be found in the 1.00 JCS but don't actually seem to do anything. Found one!

<img src="http://www.tachyonlabs.com/sam/Heateffect.png">
Tile 6,25. It gets used like that in both Race1 and Race2, but not Tube1, Tube2, Tube3, Battle2 or Capture1. I don't know why. It's not like it even tiles...

EDIT: It's also used:
Tile 6,9 in Capture4, sharect2 and Share1
Tile 7,9 in Labrat1

Quite interesting. Let me know if you figure anything out about it.

Here's another weird bit. There are two tiles in castle1n which have tile type 5. (Caption is 4.) They function as Caption tiles, indeed, all numbers higher than 3 seem to function as Caption tiles. Still interesting.

Edit: For what it's worth, JCS ignores all tile types 0 and lower, so don't bother trying to find stuff there.

This should be in the JCS forum. =b

But nice work, really. ;)

No offense but how is this useful?

It's not made for being useful I believe, just for information.

BTW, I wonder what that Heat Effect was supposed to be before it was abandoned. Something similiar like the "Flicker Light" event maybe?

Might've been a distortion effect... you know how hot air ripples, don't you? Too bad it doesn't do anything.

Ah, yes. The distort effect on Labrat's tubes in early betas.

It's not in the least useful. It's just something strange which I have yet to work into any of my theories, and I thought other people might like to know.

Edit: It's useful in the same way as "Uterus used to be in Beach Bunny Bingo" is, although probably a little more. You don't actually get to do anything new, it's just a piece of knowledge.

How isn't it useful to get more to know about the JCS?

JCS nerds eat this stuff up, useful or not. I just love it. Good find.

Well, because I only care if it is something I can use. If someone is able to get the source code or something and fix the broken JCS events, now that's cool.

Though you don't seem to use JCS too often nowadays. Care to host/upload something?

I checked it out, for me, it was just a bit darkened tile in the tileset view. There's no "Heat E" on it, just a little darker tile from others.

No "Heat E" for me.

I guess you can only see it on certain JJ2 versions. Violet, which one are you using?

1.23 I GUESS?

I have no idea either because my beta version of Jazz2 doesn't have JCS.

Meh, you have to edit your JCS.ini to actually include the Heat Effect and Inside Plax tile types. They were in the OEM .ini file, and I added them to my 1.23 for experimentation.
(The name doesn't really matter, of course. But it's something other than transparency and caption!)

OMG...JAZZ IS SO OLD WE ARE RUNNING AROUND TRYING TO FIND GLITCHS AND HIDDEN TILSET PROBLEMS! WE ARE FREAKS! ... LOL

The OEM version doesn't have JCS, so it doesn't have a JCS.ini file. That means you made up the names "heat effect" "inside plax" yourself. What made you invent such names "Heat Effect" and "Inside Plax"?

WINNER, there are many OEM versions, and some of them have JCS..

I think I took this shot from Overlord's 1.23 JCS.

WINNER, there are many OEM versions, and some of them have JCS..Like which versions? v1.00g hadn't JCS, nor MLLE, and so didn't v1.00h afaik...

Violet CLM

...1.10 had JCS, but not 1.00g or 1.00h. Why would I make up names like "Heat Effect" and "Inside Plax"?

TMan, I wish you'd stop posting stuff like that. It gets old the second or third topic. I have been researching cool stuff for years.

I've personally got a v1.00o JCS, so it stands to reason that older versions had one as well. They had to make the levels with *something*.

Violet CLM
Mar 5, 2005, 05:21 PM
A lot of them were made with MLLE. Not all, of course.

Edit: The column widths in the Tile Type window can be adjusted by moving around their headers. Unfortunately, there's nothing in the third column, just a lot of blank space.

An earlier name for JCS (stands for Multi-Layer Level Editor). They differ in ease of use, layout, name, file formats, etc.
