Fancy Seeing your Art in the Jazz3D Game ?

Hey people,
For those who dont know im making a 3D version of our beloved game jj2.
It is going Very well so far and as such im looking into creating the menu system.
However i suck in the art department so...

This is a competition to create the title screen for the new Jazz Game

You can enter as many times as you like but there are a few rules.

* The entry has to follow the Jazz style, so please bear that in mind
* The entry has to be at least 1024x768 in size
* No stealing other members or companies material, your own work please folks !
* The picture can be made using 3D modelers if you wish, if it looks the best then it will win !
* It should preferably contain both Jazz and Spaz in the Pic
* Deadline is May 31st
* -More to come-

I kinda expected a pesudo-Jazz3D style menu... which goes around with Jazz walking around the areas... and a banner on the side with Jazz/Spaz/Lori...

But, this way is much more similar to Jazz 2.

Fraps 3d Recorder

Yep. That means he got 44 FPS on the title screen. Come to think of it, how could your computer be so bad as to get 44 FPS at that screen? :rolleyes:

It was 44 and that was because as fraps changes from the intro framerate of a lower fps to the steady 60 it uses for the rest of the game i clicked the screenshot button.
So yes its FRAPS and no my computer is not crappy !

Ah come on, you're doing all the rest after all, and one entry so far and ( hopefully sooner than later ) to be joined by my entry... that's just not enough. Maybe you should ask some artists around places who know about JJ2 directly.

I hadnt planned on adding Lori for 2 main reasons
1) I have no-one to model here
2) I would have to write tonnes of extra code to get her in there...thus delaying the project, It maybe have to arive in a addon pack when i get back after my year away...unless some clever blighter codes her themselves !

Well, that rocks.
I've begun learning the JJ2 style today by copying a box cover mostly by eye.. http://chaos.foxmage.com/jazzandspaz.jpg ... not all too shabby, but note how rushed it looks. Copying something isn't too exciting for most artists.. it's restricting and, well, boring.
I'd show you my attempt to make it a little more Faw-stylish, but.. it just sucks too much and got cancelled. ^^;

Bah I failed. Couldn't get a ride to kinkos in time.
And even if I did, I couldn't get the CGing done in time. I'll still try and get it done, since I just learned a whole style, redid the design several times (including a last minute change which is probrally what killed me), and even got my brother to allow me to use his laptop for the CGing(since mine wouldn't work) if I got the art scanned.

Thats what was wrong with him! I couldn't put my finger on it. You see, I had a perfect body, but the head was too small and since I can never get a head to fit perfectly after a body is done, I had to redraw the body at the last minute(I was on the natural high of getting Jazz and Spaz done when I first drew them so I didn't notice the head size).

That's the beauty of vectors: Just resize the head after you vectorize it
Very nice drawing, Noob. Jazz's right leg connects to his hip a bit strange, though. And what Baggers said about Spaz looking feminine (again, this is something really easy to fix with vectors. Just change his leg shape a little).

I paniced, having a two hour deadline sorta does that to you.
EDIT- On the plus side, Spaz's legs are now fixed. Not too sure if I can do anything about Jazz's odd hip/leg problem he has

Is the vector shape of his leg behind the shape of his ventral fur? If so, just make his right (viewer's left) leg a bit larger and maybe move it a tiny bit up and to the left (most stuff can be done with moving and scaling). Keep in mind where his hips are located and how big they are. As is, they are about the size of his fist.

Both versions are now not final, since Jazz's leg fix was easier than I originally thought. an update to the planets in the BG, the purple planet, and the green D in the alternate version will also be done.

(i do have a version without the extra black border around it)

Well you need a Vectoring program like Corel Draw or Macromedia Flash for starters.

i used paint shop pro for this. just get is from somewhere and i will teach you a bit.

oh and Radium i can use things like this:
+ (level/arena) loading screen
+ Menu background
+ Splash screen

a menu background would be a good start, something like the one you did for baggers but with a razz on it to.

It can do vectors. Personally, I like Flash more than Illustrator and PSP because of the speed. PSP and Illustrator can't floodfill, and PSP can't vary the thickness along one line. This was made in PSP. (http://foxmage.com/Lark_Contest_Entry.png) This was made in Flash, looks like crap, but took half as long! (http://foxmage.com/Kitteh.png) The Uberbob sprites (e.g. Fawriel (http://foxmage.com/BigFawriel.jpg) or Araches (http://foxmage.com/BigAraches.jpg)) were made in Illustrator. These do nothing to prove my point, and, if anything, disprove it.
