White Rabbit's idea. If you could have one and only one, what would your choice be? I was considering posting this in the Future of Jazz forum, but the poll will probably get more replies here. Assume that JJ3 will indeed be in 3D.

Id have to say JJ3. Id wrather have a totallynew adventure instead of a few bug fixes in an old game.

jj3 cuz it wood make jazz more popular
jj2 has no future for a new audience
1.25. If it had a scripting engine in JCS or was open source. If it was just an addon like 1.23 to 1.24, then I'd say JJ#3

Interesting idea for a poll.
I would choose 1.25 because Jazz2 is already the epitome of what I look for in 2D platformers, and expanding upon that and fixing a lot of things would be great. JJ3 would be neat too but eh, I'd rather see something new and exciting in 2D.

1.25.
If JJ3 comes out, it's going to be exactly like every other third-person run-around-and-shoot-stuff game with an animal character. The world doesn't need another.

What do you mean we don't need another? The gaming industry thrives on it!
Anyways, I'm not too sure I'd have to think about it.

Very hard decision. Apparently not hard for everyone else. We don't know how great JJ3 will be when it comes out, it could be total trash. Now 1.25 is a bug fix and addon update to 1.23; therefore, we know this is going to be reliable on awesome. And 1.25 wins my vote.

So maybe my assumption that most people would vote for JJ3 was wrong. Others still need to vote though. Perhaps the results would be different if I said JJ3 would have some of the best graphics on the market (as incredibly unlikely as that may sound).

Eh. JJ3 sounds neat, and I've always been a sucker for RPGs, which JJ3 was supposed to have elements of, but I'd give it all up for a JCS with a ton more possibilities and stuff to use.

Version 1.25. I just want a classic 2d scroller game ;) And actually get good with level making.

Nobody would ever hear about 1.25 - we could send emails to gaming websites and they wouldn't even care. JJ3, though, would sell well and get thousands of new players and would lead to more sequels, ASSUMING IT IS ACTUALLY PUBLICIZED. I see support for Jazz everywhere I go. If a sequel was to be publicized, it would win. 1.25 would do nothing at all.

1.3.
I don't waste my time playing childish third-person-shooter rabbit games with a buggy camera.

Yeah, but 1.3 is not going to happen if we don't get 1.25 first.

I vote for Jazz Jackrabbit 3D. Yes, I'm being that specific. I want a full, bug-free version of the underground(technically speaking) demo that was based on the Unreal engine. Having seen a video the demo being played(I've long-since lost the link. Sorry. . .), I can honestly say that I would love to have gotten my hands on even that little demo, much more a full version game!
Also. . .I wouldn't want to waste my time with playing childish third-person-shooter rabbit games with a buggy camera.Indeed. Instead, you choose to spend your time playing an equally-childish 2D scroller platformer rabbit game with all the more bugs than a few camera issues. :x Retreating to the rear now.

Hey, if JJ2 was childish it wouldn't have any drugs, it would have techno music, everyone in the game ouldd be wearing clothes, the levels would be much simpler, there would be barely any violence but a huge increase in gore, and there would be humans in it. Stupid looking humans.

JJ2 isn't chieldish.
I voted JJ3, read Violet's post for an explanation why.

1.25. If it's made, it's gonna be made by fans, and if it's gonna be made by fans, it's gonna be open source, and if it's gonna be open source, it's gonna be free and when something's as good as JJ2 and FREE TO DL AND DISTRIBUTE....

JJ3. I am a story and officialness maniac - I'd accept everything they would come up with, just to go through that whole singleplayer and follow the storyline. Even in JJ2 I prefer singleplayer over multiplayer. Even if the new story would be bad, that's still more than a patch that would just make JJ even more undergroundish. I don't feel being in a very small community either cool or special. More like holding onto a zombie.

That's the only reason I keep playing this game. I love classic 2D games, especially when they come with a multiplayer feature.

@Joseph Collins: You're not choosing between 1.23/1.24 and JJ3. You're choosing between 1.25 and JJ3 and 1.25 is going to be relatively bug-free, so to speak.

Are you sure the community itself would be able to make JJ2 100% perfect?

Of course. I'm not doubting the competence of anyone here.

I think, maybe the best would be a fusion. Side scrolling 3d game, with cel shade! ;-)
But I prefer 1.25 more than 3D. 1.25 would mean the whole stuff will be include the source code. So we should add our own chars, new game modes, faster multiplayer, etc.
LittleFreak
Apr 21, 2005, 10:51 AM
If we had the source code, heck we'd ruin the game.
Everybody would try to make it better, and better, and better, and better, and.. you get it. It would be changed so much that it isn't JJ2 anymore.
Apart from that, even if the above wouldn't happen, JJ2 cannot be made perfect.
Think about the buttstomp for example. I think I've heard someone saying he would like to remove the "waiting sequence" when buttstomping (you stay in the air for about one second). That would be extremely useful for multiplayer, but in singleplayer it would make beating Bilsy a heck of a job. I know it's possible to beat Bilsy without stomping, but it's very tricky.
Think about it, I'm sure there are more of similiar things like the above.

LittleFreak makes a very good point. People would all be uploading their own versions, there would be no compatability and no standardization, and you'd keep having to re-name the files.

I would say JJ3 if it would be 2D platformer with 3D graphics, like Klonoa 2.

Maybe we have people that make improvements and send it to a team that releases the "official" versions to everyone, jsut like mozilla firefox.
White Rabbit
Apr 21, 2005, 02:22 PM
www.freeallegiance.org <--- I don't see why we can't beat these guys if ever JJ2's sourcecode is released.
We're at least as dedicated to them so why shouldn't we co-operate and make a standardized version and create a 'team' solely for the improvement of JJ2? An easy, I hope it's easy, thing to do would just to enable JJ2 mods so ppl won't have to re-install JJ2 over and over again, they would just install mods with conditions different from the default settings but not actually changing the actual game.

This talk about JJ2 being childish reminds me of good 'ol Kingdom Hearts. Doesn't the graphics or the way the actions are between characters seem a bit childish, or maybe some of the storyline like the beginning of the game? But the crazy Final Fantasy / Disney game is a great RPG, one of the best RPGs of all time.

Lies. We could name it 1.3, or maybe even 2.0. :)

2.0 would just confuse it with 2.03.

If there surely was a handy and possible level-editor in JJ3, It would be easy for me to give my vote for it. But as now as neither of the projects are going ahead, and there's no knowledge what kind of features they would have, it's hard to cast a vote on anything. But I'm still giving my vote for jj3 for now, but of course I wouldn't mind if 1.25 was made. It would be sweet if it had exactly same features as the April Fool's hoax. :)

I thought you could do that in JJ2, I remember making some to replace the standards on the menu screen ages ago.

Well, there's no demo manager, you can't record other players, it has tons of bugs, etc...

As for there being lots of new versions if the source code was released - hopefully this would not happen. The way it would be hopefully done is that the source code is only released to the capable hands of the 1.25 official coding team. Or something like that.
White Rabbit
Apr 22, 2005, 07:13 AM
No, that wouldn't be fair. It should be opensource and available to everyone. The "offical" version of JJ2 1.25 should still be created and used as default, but there should be nothing preventing you from turning Jazz into a Trafton. :p

You know, I just had a thought that someone could program another Jazz2 completely from start. The coding would be different and not compatible with old levels and tilesets, but hey, it would be open source...
