Okay, make place for my turtle preview (If nothing is displayed it means that the preview is not yet uploaded)! :D I hope you'll like this one better:

NOTE: The turtle is unfinished and this image is only a PREVIEW, the preview does not say anything about the finishing quality! :) :) :) }>

Please. Use the edit button.

Apart from that, I don't have any models.

For what? What do I need to edit?
Your posts. To add things. So you don't have to post four times in succession. >_>

Quadruple post in your thread. World Record.

He means you could've said what you said in one post instead of four. I suggest you edit your first post to put in the images and "post your own" comment that you used seperate posts for.

And, I have some models going on. They are for Razz Arena though.

OK I'll do that, sorry for the quadrople posts!

..wellll, that new picture, on the other hand, could've been posted in a new reply. Since it's new and all.
About the poll, well, it depends really.
The second one is pretty nice. It looks silly... the question iswhether that is a good thing or not.
The others aren't too great, but probably better if you don't like weird-looking enemies in a game.

I don't really like the middle one. The other ones looks nice though. Keep it up!

DarkJazz23
Apr 21, 2005, 10:21 AM
Maybe Baggers will put some of my work in his game, so I'm trying my best for it! Workin' on some improvements! Thanks for all the good reply's!
Maybe I'm going to map something else very soon! It's almost my birthday, yippie!!!
Enj. the future models!
BTW: The turtle model no. 2 now has a tail and hasn't got it's legs through the shield anymore!

You're soon going to be fourteen, right?

Believe me, being fourteen sucks. :P

Anyways, I know nothing about modeling, but I like the second one. :P

Nu-uh almost right, I'm going to be 13! :)

LittleFreak

Being thirteen isn't funny either. You'll start argueing with your parents 20 times the day, you'll not be able to control certain parts of your body, you'll be happy, then sad, then happy again, then very very said... and so on...

Violet CLM

you'll not be able to control certain parts of your body
I don't remember that happening but it sounds like it might be fun to watch.

Well.. maybe not everybody had the same problems as I had when I got 13, but it's certainly pretty common. :P (and I'm not talking about legs or arms, in case you're thinking about that)

EDIT:

Just a quick note to DarkJazz, a basic rule you should follow is the following:

If you have a post and there's none below, and you want to add something use the edit button.
If there are posts by other forumers below yours, you can make a new reply.

Just to avoid confusion. ;)

Tadaa !...ive finally found this thread...i was watching the art forum dilligently !

ok number 2 so far but have a look here at the original sprite, see how the joints look and how the face is made up, focus on one bit at a time and be as critical of yourself as you can.
http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/node.php?title=badGuys

Great start though...my choice of 2 is based that it, so far is the most acuarte and looks the most stylish. Good luck man, i'll be watching this progress very closely !

p.s. Use vertex editing to get the vertices as acurate as possible !

Apr 21, 2005, 10:57 AM
Ok thanks, workin' on the sprite stuff ok?
If it's finished, I'll send you a link to a BMP forat image, ok?
I can animate the model too, do you want me to do that?
I'll have it done in uhm... like 6 weeks (You know, the school and stuff, and ofcourse also other reasons...)!:D Please wait until it's done, ok?

I have a question, it might sound a bit strange and stupid, but it is critical to my model! Here it is:
How many fingers do the turtles have per hand? Three or five? Or something?

NOTE: I will post a preview of my model very soon! 8D

Baggers
Apr 22, 2005, 07:38 AM
Seriously, dont change you entire thread makes it hell to find out what your meaning, and confuses anyone reading the thread for the first time !
Didnt you get the link to the pictures i gave you ?...i count 3 or 4...im not sure.

DarkJazz23
Apr 22, 2005, 07:40 AM
Ok srry for changing, I won't do it again (To bad I'm a n00b *sigh*)...
BTW: I chose four toes or fingers.

The ears look withered and vile.

But when that's fixed I think we have the best model so far.

Eeeh. I don't really like the legs, either.

Jazz should also be a tad skinnier in that model too.
Otherwise I like it, It's 3D in stadler style.

Looks like it's based more on JJ1 Jazz although slightly more upright. And those ears are very weird.

And Darkjazz about your models, you really should try making the model all one joined piece and giving it a skeleton rather than piecing it together from random shapes like I did when I was about 9. You'll get much better and easier to animate results.

Ninja Dodo
Apr 23, 2005, 03:38 PM
Hello.

It was more like four years actually...

And yeah, the ears are a bit crap. If you're wondering why they're straight like that that's just so they could be prepared for animation easier and if I were to make a proper picture of the character I would of course put him in a somewhat more natural pose. Anyway, thought I'd just drop in to point that out.

The character was mainly based on the pictures in the party mode menus in Jazz2.

I've been considering redoing the character for a while as a model for another game like Unreal or Half Life or something, but I've never really gotten around to it.

Buut, I think it's still possible to contact Ninja Dodo, and I think he might be willing to help... don't ask me how contacting him works, though..Heh, sounds like I'm some kind of ghost.

It is indeed ! very much so, you said you prepared the ears for animation...i dont suppose you finished the animating did you, id love (with your permission of course) to put your model ingame.
Good to see your ghostly form grace the forums again...i found your model's pic a long time ago when i started this project !

Ninja Dodo

I animated the character for the Lost World episode (http://ninjadodo.com/m2lw.html) cutscenes, but the way I created the model is not really well suited to real-time 3D and definitely wouldn't export to darkbasic.

Your Jazz model is looking good though.

I was looking at the videos of your project and I was just thinking it would be interesting to see what you could add to the game in terms of gameplay. You could theoretically recreate the exact same Jazz game in 3D, but I think it would be more interesting to look at the 3D medium and see how you could use it to do things with Jazz that you couldn't do in 2D. Find the essence of the game and the character and then translate that to 3D. It has a lot of potential.

I mean, look at what they did with The Sands of Time compared to the original Prince of Persia...

Baggers
Apr 23, 2005, 04:43 PM
Yeah, very true....any ideas of your own on this line?

Ninja Dodo
Apr 24, 2005, 01:19 AM
Well just off the top of my head... jumping is one of the main things about Jazz so you should think about how you could make jumping interesting in 3D. The question is whether or not you should do the type of acrobatics seen in Sands of Time or perhaps something else.

Because Jazz no longer has to just go forward and back he should be able to move sideways quickly to dodge attacks both in the air and on the ground.

And seeing as you as you can now aim properly you should probably make that a bigger part of the game. Have enemies or triggers that you need to hit in a specific spot, etc.

One thing you should definitely do is have dense and compact levels because Jazz isn't really suited to vast expanses of landscape I think.

LittleFreak
Apr 24, 2005, 01:24 AM
What about the system used in Rayman 2/3?

Hold down CTRL and you can go sideways to dodge attacks while the camera sticks on your opponent.

We SUMMONED him! =O

This might not be the exactly right place to talk about this, but I stopped checking the original thread about Jazz3D when the demos were released, which I couldn't even play... but then again.. I think I CAN actually play them now... ooo.
But anyway, good ol' Baggers will read this anyway.

So, to get to the point, I've played Rayman 2, and I think it's a pretty bad conversion of the original 2D game to 3D.
The original idea of having Rayman's fist fly was taken out and replaced by.. oh noes, shooting!
There were very few different enemies. They were all just robot pirates, and not quite many of them. Most of the skills you need to play the game had to be used in racing parcours and the like.
Which leads me to Ninja Dodo's suggestion of not only making the original JJ2 three-dimensional, but to enhance its classic character.
Despite being 3D, it should allow for really cool jumps, like jumps in the air, jumps beginning in one direction and shifting into another, walljumps, really high jumps that make the camera shift to bird view at the top of the jump so you can aim where you're falling, etc, and the number of enemies shouldn't decrease greatly. In most 3D games, like Spyro 2, you have a 3D route and every once in a while, you encounter an enemy, pretty much like a duel. There are only few places where you have to react quickly and decide which enemy to attack first, to where to dodge, etc.
See what I mean?

Yeah i was going to be looking into what i could do with the target camera. Sidestepping is something ive said to my modelers that i definately need sidestep animations !

edit:
I agree with your points ...and my brain cries at the prospect ! ...hehe im gonna have some coding challenges !
dont worry about the enemy count id personaly like it high...ive tested 50 active enemies at once so far
Also please PM about your demo problems..ill keep sending you little files o test until we get it working, if you are having a problem then other people will and so i need to fix it. Hope you are willing to help in this area.

Ok back to work...sorry for highjacking this thread darkjazz !

Just a note to lil Fawriel, in Rayman 3 the fist has been put back in and there are more enemies. :)

And why didn't I know there is a demo available for Baggers' game? =O
