JDC Logo Contest

We are looking for a new logo to show on the JDC site. We tend to get a new logo every season, and this one should be no exception.

<b>NEW INFO HERE</b>
The deadline of this will be the 4th of June. More than enough time.

Check out <a href="http://poljj2.po.funpic.de/jdclogo/">this page</a> to see the current submissions. Thanks goes to Nick who <strike>wasted</strike> spent his time making it. I don't have anything to do with this page, so message him if you want something changed on it.

<b>RULES</b>
<ul>
<li>Image must be 385x130 pixels.</li><li>It must look good with the current colour scheme.</li><li>Keep filesize reasonable. The current title is around 70kb which is fine.</li><li>Include "JDC" in the picture and make it easily readable. All other words are completely optional.</li><li>Preferably have the artwork reflect JDC, or at least JJ2.</li></ul>

The prize of this wonderful contest is that you get to have your logo displayed on the JDC site for at least one season.

Just to clarify, the third logo pictured was made by Defalcon in late April 2002 and used in seasons 6 and 7. It was the winner of a contest similar to this. You can read about it in this news post: http://www.jazz2online.com/jdcOLD/news/news.php?limit=86

EvilMike and I will determine which logo will be used. Feel free to submit multiple logos. Should the logo not conform to the color scheme there is some flexibility and colors can be altered. However, any changes to the color scheme should be raised with me personally.

1. The spaz on the left throws it all out of place.

2. Jazz holding a diamond gives the interpretation that JDC is mostly about treasure games. While I do believe that you could do a treasure duel, treasure games are few and far-between.

Otherwise, very nicely done.

It's not bad, but it doesn't really fit into the current JDC site. The fonts used for "Fight fair" etcetera are way too standard and standard fonts (Times new Roman, Arial etc) are bad for logo's and the like.

It's a good submission, although I think the colour scheme could be tweaked to match the jdc site. Maybe if the background was made the same blue as the background of the JDC site, rather than black. Also it's "Duelists" not "Duel Lists".

I'm impressed with the submissions so far.


Might as well give feedback on other ones.

I kind like the design of Heart of Iron's submission, but I notice a bunch of jpeg compression artifacts in it. I suggest saving these images as .png or some other format with lossless compression. The "DO NOT FEAR" strikes me as funny for some reason, though. Is JDC really that scary?

SpybunnyCC's second submission would be better without the lens flare, I think. Other than that, not bad. Relying on photoshop (or whatever) filters and effects generally detracts from the image.

White Rabbit's is amusing in a sort of war propaganda type of way. I'm not sure if it's really what we are looking for in terms of a logo, but it would make a nice advertisement to put in your sig.

sers' entry is stylistic, but has nothing to do with JDC or JJ2. And what he mentioned in his post. No loss though, since with that you can just erase "JDC 10" and write pretty much anything else you want in there.

Oh, and just a note, don't feel bad if it looks like one logo is better than yours. There might be more than one winner.

If yours is the one in the third screenshot, NO!
Contrast can be good. In that case, it is, because the fade to black from the bright blue makes it look smooth enough while still retaining a cool contrast.

What I am sure of, is that there should be fair play and an overall good atmosphere during the JDC season.
That's why I came up with the idea of Jazz and Spaz holding hands.

The background I used is of one of my fractals. Probably too "modern", but it's worth a try.

I think you should make it unanimated. It just looks strange to have the arm suddenly move up without any movement of the rest of the body.

The text is way too small. Make it at least 1 size larger, and add a JDC font in the middle of that blue, warpy thing. It won't ruin it too much if the font is thin, I think, but I'm not a very good designer. ;P The rest looks cool. Urbs and Nightmare's are the best-looking ones, though Urbs' colour theme doesn't fit JDC's colours (too milk-chocolatey). :p

@Bigbelly: edit out Spaz's hand on Jazz's shoulder. It's creepy, and reminds me of that Jurassic Park velociraptor scene with the chewed off arm... :p

Uhm my personal favourites, the last of Bigbellys work is awesome, i also like eagles and Nightmares and closely 4th is reptile.

The JDC admins will be the ones who decide which logo gets to be on the site for season 10. That means me, bobby, blurredd, syntax (though I haven't seen him around here lately) and fquist even though I honestly have no idea why he is a jdc admin. <font size=1>I think he threatened to ban me from j2o but don't tell him or he might do that.</font>

Regardless, we are not going to pick an unpopular design. Even if we did this with "democracy", the result would probably be close to the same.

And spaztic will probably get to have some say in it too if he wants, since he is our site designer.

Personally, I like Dal's second one, Heart of Iron's first one, and Nightmare's second one the most. The color scheme and text in Dal's looks really good, but also really like reflection effect in HOI's. It's the only one that actually shows two rabbits fighting, unless you interpret Spybunny's as a Spaz kicking a Jazz ten times his size.

I dunno about your laws, but according to swedish law, what BlurredD did is to be considered as legal. It is different enough from R3ptile's logo to be considered as "artistic". By the way, didn't you take those screenshots without asking for Epic's permission? Also, I am quite sure that you used a guide of some sort to create that text, something BluredD could have done by his own using a copy of the same program as yours. Now stop whining (you know that word ;)) about Blur's logo being better than yours! =D
