I got bored yesterday so I exported all the tweedle sprites and put them in a file I am not sure if any of these are new, but I don't remember Pyroanus putting a few of them up(some look new to me). Also if you would like to know how to access the sprites pm me.

Yes they do..... But Tweedle fires them so... meh.

Wow.
The LAZER SHIELD MONITOR I have not seen, but I will look later. I will post the Butterfly once I find it. There are some 3600 sprites for the game so it takes digging to find anything.

If you watch closely he's actually holding everything with both hands, including the magnet. Since both guns come out of his left (the side facing away) pocket, it's reasonable to believe the magnet does the same, it just happens so fast it seems like it's coming out of the other.

Is there any way that someone could get the boss to work, or any of those other sprites, so we can see them in JJ2 and so that they would work?

Iam Canadian
May 22, 2005, 01:45 PM
I imagine the anims.j2a file could be hacked and unused sprites put in place of used ones (don't quote me on that, though; I know little to nothing about our capacity to hack this game). However, we couldn't use Tweedle or any of the other scrapped sprites as they were intended to be used, because the programming that would make them work isn't in the game's code. (Again, as far as I know, which is not far) So for instance, Tweedle has no behaviour, (although his sprites seem to indicate he would have been a very interesting foe to battle) and the potions and what have you have no function.

This is good indeed.
Maybe we should start a ripping project where we get groups of people to just rip everything in a set of values(0001-0100 for example) and thenstart compiling sheets so fans without the game can start using the sprites as well. Plus it'd help out the "Make Jazz Jackrabbit More Well Known Tour '05".
EDIT-Chuck's(Which I am guessing is the green Hip Hop's name, since there is some confusion on the matter) sprites begin at 2645 and end at 2823, for those who wanted to know.

For starters, I have all sprites in animated gifs, at one point I lost all lori's and jazz's sprites. All the rest i have. I still plan to release em in a proper manner. The only thing keeping me from releasing the stuff I found, are big school projects and other personal projects that are slightly more important. So, after my exams (1 month from now) I'll be able to start building a site or somthing like that with info about the sprites that are in no way possible to load with ViperMM's application.

For example: JJ2 should have had bonus stages like in JJ1, all sprites are still included .

Just wondering, since there were plans for Eva to be playable, do you know if her head graphic is still in the game? I get a big blank hole after Spaz's head sprites(Which is the last of the heads in 1.23 which in this order goes: Chuck,Flip,Frog,Jazz,Spaz)
And By head, I mean the little Animation that accompanies your current count of lives.

2919 is really cool. REALLY cool. For those that don't want to go to the trouble of putting it in, it's one of those oddly colored gems.
I imagine that 1060 (and 1080) could be used well in screenshot edits.
2480 - An odd sprite of a vertical unused gun. Well worth looking at.
2489 - I have no idea what this is supposed to be but most people will be interested in it since it has no clear relation to anything in JJ2.
2555 - Similar to 2489, except colored differently.
2580 - Is this what I think it is? A diagonal shot from an unused gun.
2581 - 2581, only angled even MORE oddly.
2582 - Another one of these, at another odd angle.
3190 - Just so everyone knows, here's the "Chuck box," even though Chuck is the other bird. In other words, this is the "(name of the other bird) box."
3095 - Yeah, it's the TNT box.
3089 - Nothing unique, but you should definitely look at this one.
3060 - Great. This post is going to be excessively large if I keep finding weird stuff.
3314 through 3321 - Look! See!
2980 - The "Super" version of that oddly colored gem. Apparently, this item is related to the Red Gem and could probably be brought into JJ2 without any trouble.
0483 - Many people fuss over "Big "B's"" so I feel it necessary to point out their number.
0673 - WOOHOO! MYSTERY SOLVED!
0674 - Those that have poor eyesight should look at this instead of 0673.
0675 - Marks the beginning of the Jazz sprites.
1373 - Marks the beginning of the Spaz sprites.
2050 - Last of the Spaz sprites, only to begin the sprites of the small songbird that Spaz eats and the small spaceship that he shoots. For those that have never stood still for more than a few seconds, they're used in idle animations for Spaz.
2073-2082 - These go together to make a strange animation.

Okay, it's getting late now and my fingers are tired. Having tried about 2000 different sprite entries (not knowing how long it took), I have found a few interesting things. I will find more tomorrow, I promise.
Oh, and I think I know the reason the Laser Shield causes crashes, but I want to look into this before I reveal it. ;)

n00b
May 24, 2005, 06:59 PM
Nevermind, apparently, SpriteRipper crashes after Spaz's head, unless I put in each value one after the other in sucession(for example: 91, than 92, I can't skip to 93(those values were just chosen for the explanation and have nothing to do with the problem). And apparently, the enemy sprites are after Spaz's head. Ugh. No more skipping by fives. My fingers are going to be sore next morning.
EDIT- This apparently does not go past the fish enemy which, sadly, is the enemy exactly after Spaz's head.
EDIT2- Nevermind Again, after Spaz's head is whatever else is in the level. For example, if Devan(devil boss, not robot) is in the level, you get his sprites after he is activated.(Which includes him using a flairerang(sp?)-esque object. It's sad because it was never programmed with him and could have ammounted for a much harder boss.Other oddities include sprites of Devan warping with his gun.)

2919 is really cool. REALLY cool. For those that don't want to go to the trouble of putting it in, it's one of those oddly colored gems.
At a glance, it's a combination of the red, green, blue and purple gems... probably some sort of mystery gem event which got scrapped for looking ugly. It may have been replaced by Gem Crates (I think crates came before barrels, although I don't remember why).
EDIT: Wait, no, it's 1.23 style, so they were considering using it at least through OEM...
I imagine that 1060 (and 1080) could be used well in screenshot edits.
Yeah. Pyro, I thought you said only Spaz could do that?
2480 - An odd sprite of a vertical unused gun. Well worth looking at.
That's the Fireball gun from OEM, and the only weapon JJ2 (in the way of destruct blocks) actually recognizes as Gun8. Fun.
2489 - I have no idea what this is supposed to be but most people will be interested in it since it has no clear relation to anything in JJ2.
Blade Gun from OEM, Gun9, as people have said.
2580 - Is this what I think it is? A diagonal shot from an unused gun.
You can shoot diagonally underwater, remember?
2581 - 2581, only angled even MORE oddly.
2582 - Another one of these, at another odd angle.
I'm not sure about these. Interesting.
3314 through 3321 - Look! See!
Crate fragments?
2073-2082 - These go together to make a strange animation.
Hmm. It reminds me of the cloud from the coin warps, although I doubt those would have actually exploded.

These are just the sprites loaded for every level, right? Could some kind person give me the number for Spaz's head so I can start looking at the cool stuff?

3552 is the start of the dynamic section of memory, by changing the fish event you'll be able to see what every event loads.

About thos gems tho : there are only 2 gems sprites (and their frames) the normal one and the big one, "but there are red, blue, green and purple gems" you say. well the reason the gem looks messed up is because it uses a different pixelinfo, so it messes up the colors, their relative offset is correct tho, so you could shift the pallet till the start of the green,... color

I have no idea, but those look like normal too me.About thos gems tho : there are only 2 gems sprites (and their frames) the normal one and the big one, "but there are red, blue, green and purple gems" you say. well the reason the gem looks messed up is because it uses a different pixelinfo, so it messes up the colors, their relative offset is correct tho, so you could shift the pallet till the start of the green,... color

Oh, so that's why gems sometimes get completely messed up. Cool.

At this rate, he'll have to. This is kinda like the Pierson's Puppeters selling the secret to their General Products hulls after it was discovered that the core of the galaxy started exploding. Except kinda not.

:O When I was playing jj2 after a bout of playing CK4, I wished jazz could grab & hang on to the edges. I did not know Jazz had animations for that!

:D :D

You know, this is showing jazz is missing a lot of features of what it COULD have been! imagine jazz climbing ladders, holding onto ledges, shooting in angles, and better AI's for the enemys, and this would be a dream come true! That's why I felt a intense saddness when the "1.25" april fools joke was revealed.

It could be fast place if it worked like "Abuse." You use the mouse to aim and shoot while you use the keyboard to move around.

You know, now that we've found all the sprites and things, how about implementing them into JJ2 so that they actually work?

Then there'd be somebody who'd make a program that creates custom enemies or something like that and then we'd all be saving different JCF.ini files into different directories in order to keep them from being overwritten unless some specially designed program implemented them as different filenames directly into the existing fJCS.ini file.

I'm sorry, I'm rambling. I just have too many farfetched ideas.

And then you'd compile your images into different files for different animations, you could set transitions from one animation to another, set attack patterns, movement patterns, sound effects that are triggered by specific frames, and other stuff. But who says it needs to be specifically for bosses? It could be for practically any event! THIS WILL BE OUR SALVATION!

ShadeJackrabbit

It would work, if you replaced models. I think. You just wouldn't be able to make a character with double jump and superjump or something.

May 30, 2005, 08:25 AM
Meh, which is too bad. I mean, Razz is an inventor, he should have something that allows him to jump higher(like jump boots or something).

piet, it is possible to edit the files without having the source. it's called disassembling.

but having the source is of course easier.

Actually it's possible with-oot dissassembly it's called figuring out the compression algorithm and hex editing it in and then modifying the in game size.

^_^ Yay! This thread makes me happy... it's really awesome to see things that were never actually added into the game... I've also wondered if there's a way to import your own sprites into the game... of course I have barely any programming skills, so had no idea even how to start... I created some sprites anyway. I really liked the Addon Sparks enemy. It's probably supposed to be a fox, but I always think of it as a cat o_o. I used the walking animation for it on J2O and made some of my own animations... (an idle animation for it, and some jumping ones too.) I thought it'd be neat if you could morph into different characters like you can with the bird and the frog in JJ2. Anyway, here are the sprites I had for it. The ones made by me aren't very good, but it was worth a try XD...

Not that anyone's really amazed by tweedle sprites anymore, but here's the minimalist guide to viewing tweedle if you're not into hex editors / memory editors / sprite dynamites. But you'll still need regedit though.

Create an empty level in JCS, except maybe a background and a floor with Jazz Start on top of it. Place 5 ambient sounds, left to right, with sample numbers 14, 27, 43, 46 and 100 anywhere in the level.
Save the level as tweedle.j2l
Open regedit and go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Epic MegaGames\Jazz Jackrabbit 2\1.23\Player0
Set the value of Char to "5C 00 00 00"
Run JJ2 with the command line "jazz2 -server tweedle.j2l"

Love & Thunder
Dec 10, 2011, 02:40 PM
How do you do that with TSF?

EDIT: And what's the default value of Char(I know that I was stupid not to write it down, but it didn't occur to me until it was too late)? EDIT: Nevermind, see EDIT 2.

EDIT 2: Nevermind, it's A6 00 00 00.

Neobeo

Here's how to do it with TSF, which changes highlighted in bold:

Create an empty level in JCS, except maybe a background and a floor with Jazz Start on top of it. Place 5 ambient sounds, left to right, with sample numbers 14, 27, 44, 47 and 104 anywhere in the level.
Save the level as tweedle.j2l
Open regedit and go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Epic MegaGames\Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Special Edition\1.24\Player0
Set the value of Char to "60 00 00 00"
Run JJ2 with the command line "jazz2 -server tweedle.j2l"

You can reset Char by just going into the player setup screen the normal way from the main menu -> party mode etc..

That's probably because you're using the jj2+ .exe. You have to use unpatched jj2 (if that doesn't work, reinstall jj2 in the same folder)

Oh, nice find. Apparently jj2+ also loads the flag and frog sprites by default, so the numbers run a bit. I have updated the numbers above to also work with jj2+.
