Signatures must follow all regular content rules, but they also have some specific restrictions on size.

Signatures may have at most 512 visible characters, and 1024 characters in total. This allows you to include BB or HTML code outside of the character limit.
Signature images have a maximum total vertical image size of 200 pixels, a maximum total horizontal image size of 700 pixels, and a maximum total file size of 80KB.

The "total vertical image size" is the total vertical space used by images, according to positioning. For example, you can have two 150 pixel high images beside each other in your signature (total vertical image size of 150 pixels), but they couldn't be on separate lines (total vertical image size of 300 pixels, which exceeds the limit). The total horizontal image size is the same idea, just horizontal instead of vertical.

Signature images have never really had specific restrictions (before these rules were created), but very large images have never really been allowed. These restrictions should not cause problems for most people, and are more just a way of setting objective guidelines for image sizes.

Signature character restrictions should not be a problem for most people either. Remember that you can have up to 1024 characters, but only 512 can be visible. This will allow you to use formatting tags outside of the character limit. These limits are checked when you edit your signature (the admins aren't going to be counting the characters manually :-P).

Administrators will usually ask you to change your signature if it falls outside these restrictions, though they have the right to edit it immediately.

Signatures that are in any way limiting the accesibility of board functions such as the "Report this post to a moderator" link are forbidden.
Signatures that offer the users a way to change the signature itself are forbidden if it is possible for others to bypass the board rules via the signature.

You forgot those :P

Like what for example? If you're referring to something like Michael, that button still works.

Like putting a text linked to another page on top of it using CSS.

Like my old sig would take one to http://www.questionsleep.com instead of the normal report webpage.

Probably. You see, it was WAY too tall.

I can't put an image in my signature. The size is doesn't cross the limits, I just can't upload it from my pc using the IMG code.

CrimiClown: Your current signature is fine. It was too tall before. I don't know who edited it, but they should have either added a hidden message or sent you a private message about it.

Jazzmusic: This isn't the correct place to ask that (this forum is about rules only), but I'll refer you to this thread about images.

I wonder if it's actually possible to make a 512-character signature looking like this:

to annoy everyone. ;D

The image below was deleted out of my sig:

WHY???

Images containing filtered words generally aren't allowed in signatures.

Stijn

Let's see:

The maximal vertical dimension of a signature image can be 200 pixels PASS
The maximal horizontal dimension of a signature image can be 700 pixels PASS
The maximal combined image size of signature images can be 80 kilobytes FAIL
Signature images may not contain filtered expressions FAIL

As you see, that image is not allowed. Please, next time you want to add another image to your signature, go through the list yourself, so you won't have to ask here.

While we're at it, the images in your signature combined are 99 kilobytes big. Please remove one of them.

ShadeJackrabbit
Jul 3, 2007, 02:14 PM
Seriously though, what about mine?

Stijn
Jul 3, 2007, 02:58 PM
Let's see:

The maximal vertical dimension of a signature image can be 200 pixels N/A
The maximal horizontal dimension of a signature image can be 700 pixels N/A
The maximal combined image size of signature images can be 80 kilobytes N/A
Signature images may not contain filtered expressions N/A

Replace the N/A's with whatever is the case with your signature. If any of these are negative, you lose, and your signature is not allowed. The wonderful thing about this list is that you can then easily, step by step, change your signature so it becomes valid.

Now anyone who asks again without having done this will be banned on sight.

Well well. Oh at least everything is fine <em>now</em>.

To all of you, please heed the following quote. Replies such as ShadeJackrabbit's last one are not meant to be posted here.

Replies should only be made to ask questions or provide additional information/clarification. Stating your opinion is not permitted in the rules forum, and your replies will be deleted. If you have suggestions, complaints, or criticisms about the rules or guidelines, post them in the Feedback (http://www.jazz2online.com/jcf/forumdisplay.php?f=14) forum.
Extraneous posts will also be deleted.
These strict discussion rules are necessary to make it as easy as possible for people to get the information they need. It would be inefficient if the threads were filled with extra discussion and potentially misleading information.

I can't remove those pictures i like them both. I mean if you REALLY want me to remove them it's better than being banned but I would LOVE to keep them both. The most I would want to remove is 95% of teens are addicted to myspace, if you are part of the 5% who have a life paste this into your sig
92% of teens listen to rap, if you are part of the 8% who listen to real music paste this into your sig

if you want me to remove them.

We aren't going to make an exception because you "like them both". If you can find a way to fit them into 700&times;200 pixels and 80 KB, fine, otherwise you can't use them.

I do not know what you are talking about. You should phrase your questions more clearly and provide some grammatical clues. You sound like you want to abuse your sig to make people execute code. That is, logically, disallowed.

If you have any good questions, feel free to post them. Otherwise, purposedly nonsensical questions waste our time and could be deleted.

No it doesn't. The 512 character limit doesn't ignore HTML. :( Can anything be done about that? Could the limits be extended overall? The image size limits seem reasonable but even 1024 characters is quite a tight limitation if one wants to do something cool with HTML.

I think signatures are big enough as they are, I don't feel like making it possible to make them larger/more elaborate would really be an improvement.

As for Xmas JJ2 being short, budget most likely.
