View Full Version : JJ2-Sprites

As you know, Fiendmm programmed a fantastic tool to view the sprites from JJ2
(download ite here: http://www.geocities.com/jazz2housegeo/SpriteRpper.ZIP)
In this thread you can show your finds in the j2a-file ;)
(I don't want to post so many offtopicposts in "Tweedle's sprites"-thread ;) )
I already found two strange animations:
http://home.arcor.de/big-n/JazzWithoutGun.gifhttp://home.arcor.de/big-n/SpazWithoutGun.gif
Jazz and Spaz are running without there guns. Tweedle did steal them (cooba told me).
So, what did you find interesting?
btw. did anyone found the sprites of the enemies?

1325-1370 and 1971-1998 are the complete sheets of gunless Jazz/Spaz sprites, so check if you like.

Enemies can only be reached if they are in the level apparently.
Also, Jazz looks more frantic w/o his gun. I think that is pretty cool.

2769-2793 == Chuck digging for worms.
(Robot) 3638-3651 == Should be familiar for most of the Jazz fans over here, no?
(Tuf Boss)3579 == Loose spiked shell?
(Devan)3669-3675 == Devan's gun exploding!
3695-3702 == Loose Devan's gun... looks like tossed.
3759-3766 and 3755-3758 = The same thing as the entering sequence, except with the GUN!

Cool program! Cool that there are unused Jazz2 sprites, but one thing, why did they removed the Tweedle parts of the game?

They weren't removed, they weren't even put in in the first place.

As we speak I was getting around to putting together another sprite sheet, I have decided to skip the following group
1052-1107
All it is is the running anim for jazz but at different angles, perhaps they were planning to add loop-de-loops like the ones in the sonic games ???
Hey look spritesheet #3

Zapper, there is a search button up in the topper area of the screen.
Please use it and type in the word 'Screenmate' or 'Screen Mate' for good measure add in 'Jazz'
Good day.
If you would like to see a different option of a screenmate, go to the official We Love Katamari site, register and download your own desktop katamari.

Its been 2 days, hopefully this doesnt count as a lesser form of double ost that is looked down upon.
Anyways, I couldn't find the CD that contained Devan(that or I did not name the image devansheet.whatever, and cant think of anything logical) So I came up with the next best thing(Not really): Today, I have ripped the Rocket Turtle (http://www.maj.com/gallery/Lijik/Sprites/rocketturtle.bmp), Tuf (http://www.maj.com/gallery/Lijik/Sprites/tufboss.bmp) , and Normal Turtle (http://www.maj.com/gallery/Lijik/Sprites/turtle.bmp). All 3 are still in .bmps, and I think the turtle sheet hasn't been properly cropped of extra blank space. Also some sprites were left out of the turtle sheet because they were repeats, or just the same sprite flipped vertically.

Open the sprite viewer level in JJ2 and open the Sprite Viewer program. Type in a number in the program and press OK. Now go back to JJ2 and the sprite of the fish will have changed.

I found that f12 no longer worked after changing the sprite, so I had to resort to ctrl+printscreen while JJ2 was in windowed mode and then I applied the standard jazz palette to it before adding it to my spritesheets.

*snif* The makers of jazz2 left so much from jazz2, what could made it greater. W-H-Y? Why didn't they do wall running? Why they left the tweedle out even they had JCS and sprites? Why did they leave A funky- tileset bonus level what wasn't ready? out of time? (you know, Jazz1 1994, Jazz2 1998, Jazz Adv. 2002...) ´Something else?
n00b
Oct 28, 2005, 04:11 AM
John, the game was started in 1996. If they worked on much else, Jazz 2 would have come out alongside Duke Nukem Forever. Which let me remind you will be coming out when mainstream commercial PC gamers have forgotten about 'sprites'. It would even more of a flop(according to G.O.D., the publisher for the US) then it was in 1998.
NovaStar
Oct 28, 2005, 04:11 AM
On an asking note (sorry to hear that John) does ANY SINGLE PERSON have Lori codes? Please tell me.
n00b
Oct 28, 2005, 04:12 AM
There are no codes for Lori Animations, because
A- There is no working TSF version of the sprite viewer program
and
B- Everyone else just decompiles the animations.

these spritesheets are nice, but useless, is there an easy and fast way to make animations of them? we (=Jam and me) need them for rebuilding JJ2.

Dec 19, 2005, 02:40 PM
You intend to rebuild JJ2 (a dazzling feat, since it was made by proffessional programmers, fulltime) but think sprites are stored as animation files inside a game engine instead of as seperate images? (what Doubble Dutch gave you).
I don't intend to be overly harsh, you are essentially doing something out of nicety and have good ambitions, but you should really think things through some more before starting (at the LEAST).
aokmaniac13
Dec 19, 2005, 03:19 PM
Agreed. It's a much better idea to learn how to manipulate seperate images and define animations within the program than to use GIFs. If you take the time to test these things and find out for yourself you'll notice that GIFs load much more slowly as they play, because the file structure was designed to be small and overly compressed for easier downloading rather than more efficient playback. (You will probably not notice this on a P4 or equivalent)
On another note, you can more easily manipulate an image before displaying it, for simple effects such as palette animations or warping and twisting the image.

What you want then is a program that will take the sprites either from a sprite sheet or the Jazz files and make them into an animated GIF? [Or other file to be used as an animation]
Good luck.
Jerrythabest
Dec 20, 2005, 08:15 AM
whatever, we found another way to do it, and thanks for saying that a GIF-animated game will work very bad no slower machines. Now we only need sprites of stuff, this looks like THE thread to post those, cuz it is made for that! (we DONT need jazz, spaz, lori or static srites, only sheets (yes, now we can use them) of animating objects like the morph box)
oh yea, and all stuff that was taken out (such as that TNT am +15 thingy) are welcome too, no matter if its static. I will do some work on my own of course, but the more ppl helping, the faster the JJX (it is called that) is done.
