It's well known that when 2d games try to go 3d, they fail, get stabbed in the face, and thrown in a dumpster. I think Jazz 3 should be powerd by a 3d engine. But it would be 2d with cell shading to preserve the gsameplay that made it great in the first place, the 3d part would be used for special effects and lighting.

Well... I think Jazz 3 should be something like Rayman or Sonic. And it would be really cool if it was something like UT2004 but without gore. Usually, to get a nice game in 3D, the textures should be very colored and simple, but the game a 3RD person shooter like Mafia, Hitmat, etc...

I dont think so.. Remember Worms? They made that 3D with Worms 3D. I think they should do the same sort of thing with Jazz2-Jazz3

The problem is that all third person 3D games are kind of the same.

Right, because everybody today makes only games with blood and gore with the same subject copyed one after another (the only exception I know so far are Sega that make Sonic). One of my biggest wishes is to see nice game like Jazz in a latest-technology code (a 6 CD game like UT2004, witch has extreemely detailed textures, it has text-too-speech and speech-recognision, an MP3 player, vehicles, over 100 propositions for bots and 6 different voice types, over 100 maps, over 6 game types and many other things). What in the world could be cooler than a Jazz Jackrabbit game with this things?
EnergyClock
Jun 28, 2005, 09:42 AM
Jazz without those things for starters. If it becomes that, it will no longer be Jazz, but UT with green rabbits. It's a side scrolling shooter, and that should never change.

heard of shadow the hedgehog? Shadow with a gun... Could be jazz right?
Rayman also looks like jazz, helicopter and stuff.

Jazz was inspired on rayman in the first place right?
I think that should be continued
Mircea

I think Jazz was inspired after Sonic or the other way arround, depending witch game was first (for those of you who didn't know, Sonic started as a blue rabbit, not a hedgehog long time ago).
Anyway, as long as there's no gore in the game, Jazz would be cool as a 3RD shooter. Even though... I tend to say it would really rock as a 1ST cuz there are no 1ST shooter games like Rayman / Sonic.

When did Rayman come out? The animations in the first Rayman seem to advanced for 1994.
EDIT- Rayman was 'born' in 1995. Earthworm Jim is another game that used a move simmilar to copter ears, so Jazz's copter ears may have come from that game.
JJ1 was heavily inspired by Sonic and pokes fun at this at almost every turn.

Sonic came out in 1991. JJ1 was released in 1994. Pay attention to the small text at the bottom of the screen next time. ;)

I think you missed my point entirely. 3D games are all too often a competition to see who can have the most technology, and each new game tends to steal good ideas from the previous ones. One person creates a high-poly game where you can ride in vehicles, every game thereafter will have vehicles and be even higher poly. A good game doesn't just need good graphics, physics, and technical details, it needs good gameplay. Too much effort put into the pretty little things and the gameplay will suffer.
Also, textures are the poor man's polygons.

So something that came out in 1994 can not be inspired by something made in 1991?

(for those of you who didn't know, Sonic started as a blue rabbit, not a hedgehog long time ago).Lies. Dr. Ivo Robotnik was the original idea for a star of the now Sonic The Hedgehog games. But, he wasn't good enough for the intended audience so they kept him as the villian.
On a more on topic note, a good idea for a future Jazz would be just as EnergyClock mentioned, except with some more use of the 3D, like bonus stages and such.

Earthworm Jim is another game that used a move simmilar to copter ears, so Jazz's copter ears may have come from that game. Not to mention the similarity between Earthworm Jim's level "What the Heck?" and JJ2's Inferno tilesets.<hr>In any case, I wouldn't agree on the statement that JJ3 would work as a TPP shooter. Gameplay of shooters like UT2k4 just does not fit with the Jazz style in my opinion.
After all, not even Epic themselves wanted JJ3 to be shooter-style. From what you can read from the documentation, they planned to implement various puzzle-like design elements, which would be a lot of fun.

Well... if you compare Jazz 1 and Sonic 3 you'll see that both have 3D bonus levels (in 3RD person mode), Jazz and Sonic really look very similar, the music also looks similar and both words "Jazz" and "Sonic" make you think of music. Not to mention the fact that in Sonic you must get 7 emeralds and in Jazz 2 the character must collect many emeralds to get more UP-s.
Oh, and Radium... yes! That is true. Most people tend to copy ideas from older games and put them in theirs. Still... I don't really care who coppied who as long as the game is good. Of course, different from one another, not the same game with a different name and a few modifications. So Jazz and Sonic both rock, no matter who started the idea and the game style.

The bonus stages and emeralds were also in Sonic 2, I'm not sure about Sonic 1 however.

The JJ1 bonus levels bear much more resembalance to those of Sonic CD, actually.

*blinks rapidly* The speed of sound makes you think of music?
in Jazz 2 the character must collect many emeralds to get more UP-s.
Many many many many infinite many.

And that EJ hell level looks creepy.

Blah, you people suck.
Pitfall -> Mario -> Sonic -> Jazz, Rayman, EJ and other crap
Sonic designs:
- Dr. Robotnik in pajamas
- Bulldog with cigar
- Retarded wolf
- Bunny who kills people with stuff he carries with his ears (later revived as Feel which then became Ristar)
- Armadillo (later became the Mighty character)
- Sonic (well...Sonic. Y'know.)

No, these designs were before the game was started, and exist only as concept art. You can presumably find them on various sonic sites.

Oh! I support you. Jazz Jackrabbit 3 should be fully 3D. But (I think so) with shooter elements like 3d-personview+unreal tournament... But most of all I hope (and fear) of Jazz 3 on Unreal Engine 3.0. Hope, because it will be perfect. Sounds, gfx, we will have cool level editor, scripts and more, MORE, MORE }> !!! Fear, because I have to: wait two or more years to play it; REALY UPGRADE MY PC :O ...

Hey, hey, hey!
Maybe you all knew 'dat, but I've just yesterday found it!
Jazz Jackrabbit 3 website, published on j2o (http://www.jazz2online/j3f)
There was written 'dat (again? ) game is done only on 25% and they have a problem (no, just a PROOOOOOBLEM :r ) with an engine. Ya know 'dat JJR3 was making on Unreal Engine 1 (That :( - it should be creating on Unreal Engine 2.0 or 3.0 - so I wanted, but I don't belive in santa :) )? And ya know, Epic Megagames didn't found a publisher and gave all rules in author hands? And they asked from creators just 300 000$ for an engine. That :r , because now they need to make their own. 'Dat will take a lot of time...
Maybe, I made a mistake in my post, but just visit the URL above...

sure you can play a 3d game, but usually once you've played them they turn stale, as does online play. Graphics are for people with short attention spans and lack of patience. MUSIc is the most important element after gameplay. music writes gameplay and thusly i say gameplay and music would make a better engine. Bout timee somebody figured out that games get their charm from quality music tracks and gameplay...

Yes... Yes...
Ya know 'dat Epicgames are making new Unreal Engine 3.0 and they will finish it with first game on Uegine 3.0 Unreal (I don't know the number :) ) but the best would be JJ3 on Unreal Engine 3.0, but Epic Games have no publisher, no money, so they can only sell their engines to use. Legal or not, it could be only MOD on Unreal or Unreal Tournament (2007!). So the best was to find cool, very cool guys, who could make their own engine or buy this one.
Why Epic did it?! :(
