Try using any crate with the Crab Event (196) and tell me what you see... I don't believe it... Do you?

cooba

It's just an MCE. Nothing special at all.

Put a Crab itself anywhere else to fix it, btw.

Man, I still don't get what MCE is and I am proud of what I invented :P

It just mixes some sprites... That's all... But I feel proud :P

Firstly, that's an SCE, not an MCE.

Secondly, both are well documented, so even if you "invented" it, it's very possible that they were discovered far before you did. They've been known about since back in the times of Jazz2 City, and on a personal note, I used that SCE in a level about 2 years ago.

I would disagree. An SCE is nothing more than a generator event. An MCE is other events combined to create an event which does not actually exist in the level. They're really the same thing, the only differences being method of creation and whether the sprites are loaded with the event or not.

What tileset is that?

Somehow I read that as "too important to do so" at first.

Anyway... hey, people, calm down. Crates can hold events, and the sprites aren't loaded automatically. We've established that. No need to start talking about the quality of peoples' previous creations.

And, by the way, I found a good use for it already. You come out of a 'machine-like-construction' and another Jazz (MCE 196) comes out with you. Anyone know, by the way, what is the MCE for an ordinairy blaster shot being shot right out of a crate? Just like I've seen wind right + Electro Blaster and Bomb Crate with a Lighting Shield shot out of it.

The article Cooba linked to is actually slightly inferior to the one Violet has on JCSref (http://www.jazz2online.com/jcsref/node.php?node=65&mode=id&menu=topics) (See Modifying your newly understood MCE under GENERATOR). I still don't see the purpose of having both the JCS article section on J2O and the JCSref website. If you ask me, instead of JCS articles on J2O, there should just be a link to JCSref where anyone with J2O membership can post an article (or I should say "a tutorial" since it's a little more than an article). But... that's probably asking for too much.

Jazz2 simply needs some patches and we all want some extra functions in the game. And if we would be in the posession of the sourcecode, then those ideas could be realised. That's the drive behind it.

Will the source code ruin all levels that profit from bugs that were fixed?

Yes.
That depends on what bugs get fixed. It wouldn't be so hard to fix popular levels that run into problems anyway.

Or... I suppose after new versions of JJ2 are created with the source, it could be made so that JJ2 could run older levels as if it was still 1.23/TSF and whatnot. But that's just a thought.

Nevertheless, I agree it's somewhat pointless to want the source at this point, especially since there are other more realistic projects around like a scripting language.
