Well late one night (tonight) I was browsing through some JJ2 readme files that I have, and I noticed some things. For one, an order form had the following quote:

"Jazz Jackrabbit 2: (WIN 95)
The incredible sequel to the 1995 Arcade Game of the Year!
Fast paced, side scrolling action game staring Jazz Jackrabbit
and his spaced-out brother Spaz.
[ ] Jazz Jackrabbit 2.......................................($34.95)"

Now that's all fine and dandy, but when I looked at the cover of my JJ2 CD, it said the following: "The hilarious sequel to the 1994 game of the year!"

So, the original Jazz Jackrabbit became Arcade game of the year in 1994 or 1995? Which is it?

From my brief search on Google, I only found it mentioned on GameFAQs that Jazz Jackrabbit was <a href="http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/review/R19469.html"><i>"[...]PC platform game of the year in 1994[...]"</i></a>.

Definitely.

I wouldn't trust a piece of text saying that a "side scrolling action game" <i>stares</i> Jazz Jackrabbit.

I wonder why they wouldn't see such an obvious mistake.

Maybe it was the Arcade Game of the year in 1995,

But back in 1994 it was the Game of the year?

I really don't know what awards it really got, I'm just saying that that might be talking about two different awards.

Just don't think of it. Just think happy thoughts! :)

1994, by the way.

I meant to add arcade, it was a typo.

It is also possible that the publication responsible for awarding the award awarded the game at the end of its own fiscal year with the respective award.

Awarded in 1995, but the prize was for 1994, basically. :p

1994, its a readme typo. It's more obvious that the 1995 was a mistake. After all, we always did discuss that throughout the year that the game was from 1994.

Or it won in 1994 and 1995. :)

That crazy JJ game on eBay says 1995 as well.

That crazy JJ game on eBay says 1995 as well.

That's because the version included is probably the CD-version, which was released in '95 along with some other expansions for other games (like Epic Pinball). The point is the original Jazz Jackrabbit was released in '94, and got awarded "Arcade Game of the Year" for that same year. The real "Game of the Year" award went to Donkey Kong Country for SNES.
