Heya! Look who I caught! :7

Recently I hosted an instagib server on jj2 with my Enhancement level pack. No, it wasn't Nimrod, it was me! Soon this so called hacker Orbitz joined and started to cheat with shields. So I banned him for that. Shortly afterwards he attempted to crash (maybe laser) the server but it was no-go due to my WPE filters. As he found out that he cannot crash it, he tried to mass-rename everybody in the server. It didn't work due to my cool program I used to host the server. Later on he attempted to mass-clone the server and that didn't work either due to my cool program. ;-)

But he just didn't seem to get it and he continued spamming with renames and chat. I found this as an opportunity to test the program I'm developing and it did its job pretty well considering the amount of hacks it logged. I had some problems with my server as I hosted custom tilesets and people who were downloading them caused my server to freeze a couple of times. Had to restart. Also, tests like this usually give me some ideas on what to put into programs and I got quite a few of them.

So if you've been in this server, let's talk about it. I wish to hear how it all appeared from the point of view of clients.And please do not even bother asking for this program as I am not going to give it to anyone... yet. It's still in pre-alpha stage. I may release it... some day.

YAY!..........whatever so you got me i was bored so i used a shield big deal so you banned me i wanted to be unbanned so i used asd then i got back in used shield (fire) and i was banned agian so i used asd once again but this time i was able to go in was still banned so i tried using asd more and more and more intill the server let me in but that didn't happen......so
..........well thats it................. i was just bored............
meh you got me fare and square fine ill stop BUT you gotta stop making those stupid servers that just ping for me and the rest can join it sucks the fun out of jj2 for me but hey u don't care so just stop ok?

It was a kinda fun server though, especially with lots of ppl (but I didn't appreciate the toaster-only lvl, and the drop lvl :p).

Blocking him seems to be the best thing to do as he has a static IP. But as I always point out, this may not always be the case. If I wanted to block him, I only have to type the following command to my linux box and voila:

iptables -I INPUT -i ppp0 -s 24.114.132.155 -j REJECT

Yea, I saw that too. it didn't seem to use orbitz's IP. At one point I even saw it talk in caps something about a problem or so. It kept CTOing. And it also spammed the chat a bit with JazzTool.

He could see it on the Games in Progress bit in his client, but it would have appeared as pinging to him as his JJ2 client couldnt ping it (his IP being blocked)

PeerGuardian? did i miss something?


PeerGuardian is this nice IP block tool, I made a special version which blocks just you, because you cant be trusted in anyones online game :)

Could be possible though I do have 1.21(1.23), instead of 1.24. I've lost the cd again and comp got even rebooted once.

It is really annoying as you can just guess I feel the same as Veg felt once it was considered that Vegito had faked Saddam for LB's match in jj2wc2 though he hadn't. And although I consider it nearly impossible, there is a firewall in the shared internet of our neighbourhood(atm 6 houses(6 comps), which covers the real ip of any comp with a certain to all of them. I'm not sure at all do any of them own jj2, or tsf even, but there does live some teenagers indeed who might've been playing sometime to have the knowledge of things and are doing tricks against me even.
I guess the first one is way more possible still.

He's not trying to hack it. He is hacking it.
You see, Jazz 2 is an old game no longer supported by the authors. It has bugs, flaws and security holes that have not been found (until recently) and therefore have not been patched.
The flaws have always existed. They've always been there. Only people didn't know about them and they remained hidden just to be discovered in the future by someone who would gladly abuse them.

Better games do not have the number of security holes Jazz 2 has (if any at all). Yet if they had them, there would already be a number of tools to abuse them. The Unreal engine secure protocol vulnerability comes to mind.
