Use the "Latest Articles" sidebar and you'll know about these things even faster. It's been around for days.

That is true. It is interesting, but what is the point?

It hasn't been high on my list of things to work on programming-wise.

I spammed it in #jj2 a couple of times. Little people seemed interested, even though it could provide clues on how to decompress the other formats too, possibly.

=O! Somebody decompile 7thheaven then or something because it never seemed to work on 1.23/1.24 only on 1.21 havent heard it in ages so cant remember it but I did like it back then I believe. :)

I think a lot more people would be interested if they could program.

I know people who figured this out by themselves. But the strange format that came out in the end put them of.

I'm not not appreciative of DR. Eggman's efforts, but this is clearly only useful for certain ppl, not including me.

Question? What is J2B format?
Link
Sep 13, 2005, 02:07 PM
J2B (after the file extension, .j2b) is the format in which JJ2 stores music data.
It probably wouldn't be difficult to make a converter, as long as you're familiar with tracker formats, but would it be worth the effort? I thought we already had access to original formats for the music.

If you have Multiquence, you can record what comes out of Stereo or Mono. Much easier.

That it was (whare.j2b;.j2b format). And, I believe Lori Central had it in .s3m format. At least, I have it.

Actually, I think the songs we don't have in readable format are Boss0 and Bonus2.

I don't remember having any boss song for that matter, as well as Bonus2, yeah. Oh, and the menu song kept being changed around so the version in the game might be somewhat different.

Could probably spam the link to Ian Luck, creator of XMPlay (http://www.un4seen.com/). He's been looking for more info on the format eversince a grand total of 2 (myself included) persons asked for J2B-reply capabilities in XMPlay. :P

Is there anything that makes a .j2b better than a .mod? Like smaller filesize or something
Radium
Sep 14, 2005, 03:59 PM
I think I heard the filesize is smaller, but I forget the specifics.

I first thought .j2b was a general Jazz2 related file. Maybe that's why they used a weird system like that..

If you mean the songs up on lori central, then those are not identical to the ones in JJ2 (couple of examples: in JJ2 the labrat soundtrack doesn't have that zappy noise at the beginning, and none of the lori central tracks contain any looping information).
I did do some digging into the format a while back, but gave up after seeing some of the strange data structures that came out. Somewhere on this forum are my findings. Now that there's a more complete description of the format, I may have a go at making a convertor.

I am not good with music systems for now. But does a .j2b file contain the data structure from a .mod or is it completely different?

Boss0 doesnt exist. Not at my version of JJ2. You are having a very rare version, if you have a boss0.j2b file. I have all the .j2b files except boss1.j2b and bonus2.j2b in .s3m (Fast Tracker II) or .it (ImpulseTracker) format.
Edit: not all files have looping information, sadly.

Weird. Because the Jazz2 music engine can play all sorts of mod files..

I want a converter. I want to convert some of the music I have to MP3 (Easy to do with Modplug) so I can listen to it wherever I go. The no-lyrics game music helps me concentrate.
I feel Kinda miffed that everyone just ignoring this... :|
The three I want are "Warhead.j2b" "Noface.j2b" and "Try17.j2b"
