View Full Version : Why arent you playing JJ2? Your Excuses?

Nimrod

Everytime I look at games in progress, it looks so dead.

Whats your excuse for not playing? :p

Enigma
Oct 5, 2005, 05:30 AM
Right now, I am stuck on the university's LAN, which refuses to allow for any kind of online gaming. As for the weekends, I'm having more fun going out with friends than playing jj2 these days, and there's always some work for university to be done.

So, in summary: excuse = life.

Vegito
Oct 5, 2005, 05:38 AM
my excuse is that I can't host ;-P
And I get bored of jj2 too ;l
I only do 2v2's and 3v3's these days :|

What about one of the previous featured downloads? Such as this (http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/downloads/info.php?levelID=3813) or this (http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/downloads/info.php?levelID=3783).

I always play to JJ2 online, but as joiner, 'cause I can't make a game because I've a router, so, I can't be a host, but only a joiner.

This is nice J2O poll material. I cannot play because of a lack of time. I do chat in #jj2 instead of playing, but mostly because that's a way for me to relax from work, since it's not so fastpaced as JJ2. The remainder of my jj2 time is spent on browsing and maintaining the various websites I administrate. I also usually have trouble being able to play with my network.

White Rabbit
Oct 5, 2005, 06:43 AM
There's no poll. :(

I have so few ppl to play with. A lot of my friends refuse to play JJ2 with me because they don't feel like it, even when they always have time for 'other' games far worse than JJ2.

However, if I host, ppl will always join, which is nice. :D

A)It lags on my laptop(which is what I'm on 90% of the time)
B) I can't host

I got bored of the game, and as a result don't play it as often as I used to. (Looking back, the date around November or so seems to be a time of inactivity for me where I barely play jj2 at all)

You didn't reply to everything yet, in particular the Registry Editor part.

I'm busy with JCS stuff at the moment, which I'm assuming doesn't count as playing JJ2. I tend to play every once in a while when an interesting server is up (meaning something that isn't Battle Game).

But why isn't the Battle Server up any more? I wanted to enhance it a bit, but now my computer is already overloaded with all the stuff it's running that I don't need JJ2 taking up even more resources now.

I have (like much other players) router problems. So I'm able to join other servers on both 1.23 and TSF, but I can't host my own. This all means that I want to play JJ2 many times but there just aren't much servers online to do this.

There is no real question to reply to. You were chatting with WR about what you were searching for and mentioned a corrupted registry. As I'm a technical noob I don't know what to do to check if it's corrupted though.

We need different levels...I would really like to play some kind of 'adventurous' co-op level rather than having to compete over and over again in battle or CTF. It would also be less fast-paced since you're working (together) and it's IMO it's not a bad way to spend time otherwise used on semi-idling in the jj2 channel (with a hash...except this cursed Mac keyboard doesn't have a hash symbol ).

Reasons for not playing:

1) Studying at University
2) Work
3) Social Life
4) America's Army :p

The game really doesn't excite me anymore, and I just can't bring up the skill and motviation anymore to seriously compete in wars or tournaments. So the only real things I do right now in the business are concerning leadership ( XLM, 8-D ) and organizing (JJ2WC) and sometimes a bit leveldesign. Does that count?

Well, JJ2 has JCS. That would be the biggest reason JJ is still alive. Without JCS, no custom levels and no level-exchanging community. It's some sort of game-life-support program.

Slaz
Oct 8, 2005, 09:40 AM
Yes, I bought JJ2 in 1998 and I was losing interest in 1999, but later that year I found JCS into my JJ2 folder, I tried it, and then it was the coolest game I ever played! I downloaded much levels from Jazz2City and other Jazz2 sites when I found out that the levels where share-able. So you are right, without JCS Jazz already died for long!

But Pong and JJ2 are different. Pong is simplistic and has an odd charm to it, and you can find versions that will let you play alone. But JJ2 has a community where most people play for the internet play. In Pong, you can play alone or find a version like the original and get a friend or enemy to play. But most people in JJ2 would rather play online.

Slaz

You didn't know you were crashing? Either you're not very observant, or you're obviously lying.

Me, I'm not playing right now because the game's kinda boring... CTF in JJ2 would be fun if it felt more like it does in UT or UT2k4, but instead it feels kinda lame.. You can't kill others quickly, because you have to hit them, wait for them to stop blinking, and repeat. It doesn't feel like such a daunting task to attack the base, steal the flag, and escape. It's more thrilling when you have the possibility that you might not escape with the flag alive. Defense is also more fun in UT because you can actually kill the enemy before they grab your flag.

[Instagib is] so random and stupid..
The problem I see with Instagib is a small level is often hosted with too many players in the server (which is almost always the case with Overlord's Instagib pack). If you ask me, a good Instagib level is larger than the typical battle level and uses many start positions. Instagib would be less random and more strategic if players tried not to die instead of shooting as much as possible.

Vegito
Oct 12, 2005, 01:23 PM

++ CAMP TACTIC! :D

(Ok, and too stay on topic, I'd prefer any test and fun server over any 3v3, except a 3v3 in MS or Semi :P)

blurredd
Oct 12, 2005, 03:15 PM
It's still better than random shooting IMO. Also, camping isn't as useful in Instagib battle games since you don't really need powerups or carrots, and ammo is often distributed evenly.

On a sidenote, I believe any gametype can be fun under the right conditions.

(And Assault owns.)

Blackraptor

Instagib is fun because you don't have to think of stupid bunny game strategies and just have fun running around shooting moving objects.

Instagib would be less random and more strategic if players tried not to die instead of shooting as much as possible.Trust me, Blur. I tried it a long time ago, but it didn't work out so well which is why I was forced to make smaller levels for it - to concentrate the fun. Perhaps larger levels would work better for instagib team battle and iCTF. Someone (not me) should try to make a level pack for iCTF, we really could use one. Instagib is one thing I still really love in JJ2. It is so much loved in UT2004 which is why I do not see a reason why it should not be loved here as well... considering the fact that we can use more that just one weapon to fight.

blurredd
Oct 13, 2005, 04:33 AM
Well, I can enjoy your levels with 2-3 players, but I start to dislike the gameplay after more players join. I should probably mention that for larger Instagib levels, players would need more incentive to play in all areas of a given level since powerups have lower priority and carrots have none. The only decent ways around this that I can think of is using multiple shields located far away from each and/or using coin warps (at a low amount) with shields.
(By the way, if someone remembers my coin equation, it would be greatly appreciated.)

I also agree that Instagib would work better with team games since players have more reason to use tactics.

Instagib is also really horrible in small levels with lots of lag, because you get killed while blinking but you yourself can't hurt anyone since you're blinking.

Because RuneScape is more interesting and I suck too much in JJ2.

Instagib is fun because you don't have to think of stupid bunny game strategies and just have fun running around shooting moving objects.
Exactly :o

Whats your excuse for not playing? :p

The only thing I´d do regarding JJ2 would be making levels, but my latest one was released 8 months ago. And I doubt I´ll make another level unless I get some cool idea.

*slaps myself on the wrist*

Ive been gone from here too long! I miss you guys so much sometimes i almost cry. I miss the good ol times when seeing 16 servers was common! Ahh yes@ back in the ol days. Nowadays u rarely find 1 server up! how discraceful! *tsk tsk tsk*

Anyways: my pitiful excuses of not being with the people that taught me badly ;). No seriously u guys were awesome and were so cool. Sure; playing for 6 1/2 years makes u cool, but it dosent mean anything unless u respect other players. Anyways!

excuse #1: I bought world of warcraft a few months ago and am now completely addicted to it.

excuse #2: Something is wrong with my router so i get the 30second timeout error, but if i switch a few cords its fixed (the problems is that my bro dosent have any connection)

excuse #3: 5 days ago my computer crashed so that means no MSN, no JJ2, no WOW and no JJ3 ;[ it sux

Anyways i pop in here once in a long while and say hi and how much i really miss u guys, cuz all the good times i had with u guys like radium beating me with my bad spelling skills and having so many duels and of course me participating in JDC for 4 years, im considered a veteran i guess. And i just hope that all u younger and less experienced jj2 noobs ;) follow the guidelines of paying respect, no cheating and having fun

Miss you all so much

I'm not playing as much as I potentially could, since I've been really busy with university and social life lately. But I'm still faithfully preparing for JJ2WC3 and working on my levelpack.

Because JJ2 is for nerds
Show me one Online game that isn't for nerds and I'll show you an impossible product.
EDIT- And don't mention CS or Halo. Those are nerd breeding grounds.

I was wondering my own self. Ok, I've taken a long break from the game. But I'd be interested in playing again. Only there's never anyone else playing. I miss the old days.

I wonder when I'll finally finish my single player episode. It's been in development for years now... off and on (and mostly off). But it's got some really really cool levels I'm dying to share.
