Well today I played some jj2 for the first time in years. When I hosted a server, weird things began to happen. Someone switched my team and my character. Then began to rename me. First to WiZARD Of Oz, then to WiZARD [BW]. Not sure who was hacking it but does this happen frequently now?

There are ways to protect your JJ2 server: http://nimmy-online.com/jj2networkfilter/

But, yes, unfortunately, these things happen often. You can protect yourself against attacks that will crash JJ2 (e.g. people using laser shield) but there's no way to prevent renamers, unless you can stop them from accessing your server.

It didn't affect your game play. Just let them change your name...

The game is in a brief state of chaos as 12 year olds learn how to use game hacking programs.

haha, so true ;D

Anyways, get ApprehendJJ2 (requires a sort of driver installed) (http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/downloads/info.php?levelID=2639) and report his IP to me here (dapete10@sympatico.ca). I'll add him to the PeerGuardian filter as soon as I can.

Unfortunately such attacks are semi-frequent. There are of course ways to protect against them, and people are working on even better methods of protection as I type this. These attacks have only been happening that often in the past few months.

Also I recognise your name

Then I'd like to see how you'd react when someone renames you to TT(-)971.

Thanks for all of the information. Didn't really bother me too much I was just curious about it.

If you happen to catch someone renaming you or crashing your server again, please PM me or Nimrod and send us the IP address along with some proof (apprehendJJ2 logs, a screenshot of jj2 perhaps or some other means of proof like packet logs - WPE, Ethereal, etc.). If that person continues his actions, we'll see what we can do to stop it.

The renamers also seem to create ghosts, so I think it's a good idea to release Ghostbuster if this continues.

I can't run WPE. My Norton detects it as a trojan horse, then deletes it. :|

I was flooded down this morning by IP 72.139.36.204.
I don't know who this is, so keep an eye out for IT.

Unknown File wern't you like talking through other people's names in some server with a few noobs the other day? I was there on undercover name. [:
Sure you can deny it, and I might be confused even, but still I am pretty sure it was you.

Use AVG.
Nah, I spent enough money and effort to install it. Isn't there another solution? :(
