View Full Version : WC2006 City Nomination Form
Trafton
Dec 3, 2005, 06:50 PM
Hello everyone. It's December, and it is time that we began organising WC2006!
This is the city nomination form. So far, the following cities have been nominated for consideration:
Seattle, Washington
Vancouver, British Columbia
Banff, Alberta
Here are the rules for this nomination thing:
Please only vote if you are 60% sure or more than you can come.
Indicate your first choice only. Feel free to nominate new locations.
You must nominate an actual city, or at least part of a county if there is no one large city. For instance, "southern California" or "Orange County" will not be counted, as they are too generic.
This is not the final vote.
Please back up your choices, especially if it is somewhere obscure.
At the end, I will compile a list showing the locations, their downsides, features, etc., for debate and voting.
Thanks everyone. Enjoy and hope to see you there.

By the way, my support goes to Seattle. It's affordable, it has stuff to do, and it seems that it would be easiest for people to get to.
If it turns out that there is little or any competition for Seattle, we could probably end up just skipping the final vote if no one objects too much.

I would like to put forth Santa Cruz, which I am fairly familiar with. Here are a few of our features:
Boardwalk Amusement Park
Laser Tag arena
Large coastline with lots of beaches
Monterey Bay Aquarium
Redwood Forests
Lots of cool people
Mystery Spot
Plus malls, music stores, mexican food, theaters, stuff like that.
"if there is little or any competition"?

Seattle would be good, I could drive there.
But santa cruz also sounds good. I like beaches.

Banff would be great, but it's rather infeasible. It's a 90 minute drive from the closest major airport (Calgary), and accomodation there is expensive (unless we went camping, which could be fun). Activities even slightly outside the town (like hikes) require driving, and I doubt that many/any would be bringing cars.
So my vote goes to Seattle, mainly because it has been most discussed so far, and I've never been there.

SEATTLE, WA.
Seattle is the perfect place. It's got all kinds of geeky stuff for us to do, there are fast food places everywhere, and geeks are nothing unusual there. ;p
I vote for Santa Cruz, though we've already sort of done California. There's lots of stuff to do there.

Seeing as how I can go if I scrape out the money, I also vote for Seattle. It just seems like there's so much more to do there.

I nominate Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. If you come sometime in March you could see the Commonwealth Games :).

Only cities in the western United States and Canada are valid for submission, I'm afraid. Melbourne isn't even on the west coast of Australia. :)

So not here either then? :( It's on the west coast of Sweden (;

Seattle has received enough of the vote that there won't be a final.

Your point is? I don't live in WA, excuse me, and if it's western US and Canada, my parents will never let me go. And I was looking so much forward to meeting everyone. *sigh*

I vote for Seattle because they have Engineer's Raincoats there.

Well well well... I got this feeling to drop by J2O, and I find this... the west coast meeting is finally happening? or did I miss the last one? Nice... I'd prefer somewhere in California.. though my opinion is prolly moot anyway... Santa Cruz sounds like an idea... nice weather there, not to mention that Gilda's has some good calamari, and the boardwalk park isn't too bad, with the limited rides and the full-functioning arcade... The beach is all good, though I'm not too much of a beach guy, as I live in Fresno, California rather...
I'd drop a vote for Fresno, though what you can do here is pretty limited :) So my vote will likely go for Santa Cruz, if old abandoning fogies are allowed votes ;)
((Oh yes, and I send my deepest apologies to Spaztic for abandoning Spiffyjuice))

There was one in 2004... this is the second.
Nice to see you again, though I'm guessing there's a better topic to say that in in Misc.
