Well, this topic (http://www.jazz2online.com/jcf/showthread.php?t=14321) made me wonder if some community members still care about this game... if enough people vote yes, I could try and organize some public events like King of the Hill and Last Rabbit Standing once a week or so.....

Nah... by the way, keep in mind that in case you vote for yes, you are also willing to participate at those events...

I can't play JJ2, but I still voted yes.

the last JDC season was a total failureThat was due to a great lack of event and with no one really willing to have a JDC right after the previous one ended, rather than anything. Also, school began for lots of people that time.

The double meaning of the yes vote is a bit silly..

I don't believe the community at this time has full control of wether it dies or not. New players seem to keep coming often. Everytime I join a server I almost always find someone I've never heard of before.

I play online (FINALLY AGAIN!), I make levels, I'm active in the community, I got some great projects ahead... Ofcourse I voted 'no'!

Only 15 players still play this game? C'mon, I know you can do better than that...
@FQ: Well, if many people who want this game to be kept alive but don't play regulary vote yes, this thread would've simply lost it's meaning.

I still play this game, and I like it. But at the moment I'm playing for fun, not for duels. And to test some levels probably. Just playing in open servers.. and making levels with JCS(Yes, I returned)

Duels are much funner than just playing on a public server that is full of noobs, noob idlers and noob chat spammers.

Dec 23, 2005, 06:58 AM
Everyone I know at school remembers the original game(Or atleast the shareware copy), even people I never met before.
They had no idea a sequel was made. There's the solution: Handout as many copies of the shareware demo as possible.

JJ2 is pretty much dead now, and what's left of it is being swarmed by TSF users.

JJ2 tends to be rather dead around this time except for holiday servers.

I love it when people say "It's dead" but then don't give any suggestions to fix that.
It's a game not a lifeform, we can, if we weren't a bunch of negative naysayers *Looks at chiyu*, bring this game back to life.
I suggest making a bunch of 'Shareware CDs' ,which should include an install for the demo and .txt file explaining where to get the patches, to hand out to freinds, people on the street, and hide them around the mall and stores. This is using a tactic known as "Guerilla Marketing" and AFIAK works everytime it's used.

I don't think we should be trying to revive JJ2, but instead just support community projects whose aim is to become better than JJ2 ever was. We get a better game and a more active community, and we wouldn't have to deal with the constant hastle of people who like to ruin our game with their lasers and such.

Without CC, JJ2 IS dead. D:
I don't need to write more, since thankfully most people also don't share your opinion.
Duels are much funner than just playing on a public server that is full of noobs, noob idlers and noob chat spammers.
Did you know??
Don't be harsh on newbies. Everyone was a newbie once. Even you!
Public servers are the heart and soul of the game.
Also, funnier*. Who's the noob now?
JJ2 is pretty much dead now, and what's left of it is being swarmed by TSF users.
How come nobody is joining my 1.24 game when the only 1.23 game up is a pinging Battle Server? What IS wrong with TSF users? I am a TSF user. YOU are a TSF user. Almost half the community started as TSF users!

There's nothing wrong with public servers that are full of noobs. I just find them less challanging and boring, that's all. :o

JJ2? Who cares. The community? YES.
I've met some of the coolest people in the world here, and if it died I wouldn't know what to do with myself. If it takes a stupid bunny game to keep us all together, then keep the bunny game alive forever!

I've come up with something that will be able to get some attention:
Make a JJ2 1.25 patch.
And *no*, you do NOT need the source code! In fact, I've been doing a bit of modding to my JJ2 with IDA Pro, Hex Workshop and TSearch.
I've been taking a look at stuff, and have so far found out what causes the game to crash when a Spike Boll is shot at and falls down. This is because the sound effect system eats a bad alist, then the game just screws up and crashes. In theory, I'd need to set a breakpoint at the SFX processor's address and see what is causing the crashes.
So, I bet you didn't know that!

Despite all the forking you have done before, my approval rating for you has shot up through the roof. You are actually commited to doing this crap while the people we really need are just sitting on their butts.]

I've actually been hacking JJ2 for quite some while, really. It's mostly some experimental tools, and with them I found out some bugs that could be fixed. I'll first need to find out the offsets and do some xreffing and stuff.
And that divide-by-zero error scares me. ;(
Here's the tool that can kill sound effects: AVKill (still in preliminary, do NOT trust this!) (http://unknown.halleyscometsoftware.com/jj2/avkill.exe)
The above tool has been tested on a level with spike balls, but if the code is patched onto the game, the whole thing will crash a few seconds after the level loads. Oh well.
(I'm more familiar with MIPS r3k, though)
EDIT: Carp, I just can't win. JJ2's strict in checking its gameloop, so even the slightest modification sets it off:
Jazz Jackrabbit 2 has caused an access violation at 0x00 by attempting to read from address 0x00.

Jazz could still be alive after years if we keep supporting the game. I voted for yes, not for the event reasons, but just because I think we'll have to keep Jazz alive. We just need to play the game often and also make some levels or websites.
