<strike>I have a question for you all.
Would you support a Jazz game, given no other information about it, which took existing character or characters and totally changed their appearance, personality and backstory, all without ingame explanation? Why or why not?
More to the point, would you accept this total redesign as canon?
(You may already know which game I'm talking about.)</strike>
You can reply to that if you like, but it was mostly a leadin for a question I'm more interested in, which is this:
<b>Why is the character rape of Lori ? into Lori Jackrabbit so much more acceptable than that of JJ2 into JJA?</b>

Gee, what COULD you possibly be talking about?
Quite frankly I'd place it with fanfiction, except in this case its a game instead of writing.

So it'd be interactive fanfiction

This sounds like a "IF YOU SUPPORT SOMETHING LIKE THIS YOU SUPPORT JJA ROFLZ" type trick question/jedi mind trick.
Personally I'd be neutral on the issue. I'd look up the game, and make my decision from there.

Support how? I would be interested, and if it ended up being good I would promote it and encourage others to play it.
I wouldn't accept it as cannon, however, until more games had been made in the new story than the old one. It's like how no Mario fans complain that they took out Pauline. They made enough other games about Mario to successfully deny her existance.

I don't like such big redesigns. If it looks like a character has evolved, sure, but if they have turned into something completely different, that's just not the true meaning of christmas. *shakes head*
But yes, it depends on what "supporting" means. Supporting Jazz in general sounds perfectly good to me.

Jazz is still a green rabbit with floppy ears, walking on his hind-legs and wielding a gun. I recognize him as Jazz and yes, I do accept it as canon.
Whether I <em>like</em> the redesign is another issue.

JJA was going very off story to to the original concept. The characters had a completely different drawing style. And it still was good, but just different from the original games. I would say the same answer to a new Jazz game that goes like this. Altrough the original Jazz games are much much better.

As long as it's fun and long enough to play, yes.

Maybe if the rest of the art fit in with the game, unlike how JJA used tilesets from JJ2. But, I wouldn't really like it, the story given as an explanation to why it happened didn't really make sense to me.

I don't think such a game would be a Jazz game.

Ok, so, uh, this talk about JJA is nice, I guess, but I was talking about Lori.

Hahaha.
EDIT: Uhm, I mean.
Lori. <s>Uhm. Is this about Lori herself as in TSF ( the way she was changed from Spaz' girlfriend to his sister ), or are there plans to use her somewhere else or something?
Assuming it's the latter ( since the former wouldn't make much sense in the context ), </s>I guess I could live with it. Lori doesn't have much background or role in the continuity anyway.
Re-edit: Nevermind the struck-out stuff. ;/

I dislike how Lori was changed. In fact, I dislike Lori completely.

I would fully support it until I see the game, in which case my opinion will either change or remain the same, because it's...a Jazz game. I would not pre-order it without knowing more, however, because it's the same with this game as for everything else in life. I don't trust the developers THAT much. :p

The question I must ask is,
how can something be canon if it directly clashes with previous cannon material?
Black Ninja

I would support it on one condition: the game has to be good in spite of it.

Ah.
Well, probbably because the great majority of Jazz fans are JAZZ fans, and also; Lori never really had a chance to impress herself on people; Jazz had two [almost 3] prior games and years of cannon history, Lori got one small mention.
Also, Lori went from spazzoid to hot; you just can't argue with that.

There has to be a justification for the change, and that's about it.
I think JJA did justify most story changes it made, with the absence of Eva, clothes on Jazz, Darth Shell, and so on (but I haven't played the game). People could easily argue that the story has been made worse or that a perfectly good storyline was wasted, but the change is there and the change is canon.

Just like all those changes between Rayman and Rayman 2? Well, if the game is good I can live with it. I liked Rayman 2, so it's ok. Still, I like it more if the changes are actually reasoned. Not like they did with Lori.

They did the following to Lori:
Change her from the Goofy-lookin rabbit at the end of JJ2 to an atheletic one.
Change her from Spaz's Girlfreind to his Sister.

Firstoff, because we didn't know who exactly Lori was, what her occupation was, or how she really tied into the Jazz universe (apart from being Spaz's girlfriend, and that was only a hint, maybe she could've been a love interest for Spaz, while she just shrugged him off all the time). JJ2 being turned into JJA is unacceptable because it took the main protagionist and totally changed him. Maybe this would be a bit more acceptable if the game didn't blow chunks.

In a press release we learn Lori is Jazz and Spaz's sister.
I know, but I don't consider that as more of a "rape" than JJ2 to JJA.

The point is is that while JJA took the main protagionist and completely changed who he was, Lori was simply redefined. Before TSF, we didn't really know who Lori really was. All we saw of her was in the outro, and even then we didn't know her name.
