View Full Version : JJ1 Running Problems

Well, I got JJ1. Tried to run it, black screen and then reverted to the screen I was previously viewing. I also found a message had flashed so quickly I couldn't see it.
Went to run command line.
Did that, typed in the directory of the JAZZ application file and I get:
"Runtime error 200 at 0009:3A2A"
Being the not-very-tech-understanding person that I am, can somebody help me?
I found this also happened with the MS-DOS file.
If it helps, my operating system is Windows 2000 Professional and the game is on D drive, not C. (D is my drive }> )

Well, it is a dos program so in windows you CANNOT run it.
Why wouldnt you try DosBox? (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/news.php?show_news=1) Its a great program for running dos programs in windows!

No...-__-
JJ1 is not, I repeat, NOT a MS-DOS game. It simply has two programs to start it up: JAZZ.exe and JAZZ.dos. JAZZ.exe is what you usually use, but if you have problems with it you use JAZZ.dos.
But I'll try DosBox. Hopefully I won't get the same error.

JJ1 is a MS-DOS game. It simply has two programs to start it up: JAZZ.exe and JAZZ.pif.
Because Jazz Jackrabbit IS a MS-DOS game, it was made for computers of that generation, and newer processors cause it to give you that error. There are two ways to fix this.
1. Use Dosbox, which will emulate a x86 archetecture processor of the time, and I would recommend it
2. Use TP-patch, or whatever it's called. It allows older DOS programs to be run on Windows, and apparently works with JJ1, but I've never tried it myself.

Do you have the TP patch link?
-EDIT- Euragh!
Extract: "Error writing to file SDL.dll" when installing! Now I really need that TP patch link! Anyone have it?

When you get TP Patch, install it to your JAZZ folder and type "D:\JAZZ\TPPATCH.exe JAZZ.exe" in the "run" command in your start bar, where "D:\JAZZ\ is whereever your JAZZ folder is.
As for getting DOSbox to work, check out these (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php?begaming_website_session=9149b44b81d261e 7a24df50d267c0265) two (http://vogons.zetafleet.com/index.php?c=7) places.

TPPatch is also on J2O, not surprisingly. To patch a dos program, type tppatch.exe [Jazz1 directory]\file0001.exe or jazz.exe at the command prompt.

Actually you should patch "D:\JAZZ\TPPATCH.exe FILE0001.exe" if you want to do the full version.

There's only one FILE0001.exe and Jazz.exe file. Just patch the FILE0001.exe file.
