JJ2WC III: Clan Cup Signups

Good night everyone,

As you all have seen, the latest Duellist Cup is almost over (we are still waiting for the giant final showdown between Vegito and FireSworD however) and it turned to be quite successful (well, of course it had a usual amount of forfeit losses and victories, but not enough to determine the tournament as unrepresentative, I think)
Now this introducing cup is over, it's time to start with the real thing: the Jazz Jackrabbit World Championships Clan Cup ! After two successful seasons with R3ptile as host, he passed the stick to me, so this time it's my turn to let the major clans clash ;-)
Anyway, a clan cup would be nothing without a nice amount of clans participating, so this thread will be used for clanleaders to subscribe their clans for JJ2WC.

This year's tournament will start at January 15th, 2006. It used to be January 8th first but I postponed it one week, since the Duellist Cup took so long that I forgot to start the subscriptions on the day I promised. The time it'll take depends on the number of participating clans.

These are the main rules for subscribing:
- A clan can only be submitted by it's leader, or someone who is allowed by the leader to subscribe the clan (the leader needs to confirm this in an e-mail, PM, MSN conversation or post in this thread)
- People can only submit one clan.
- Players who are already submitted as member in one clan can't be submitted in another. In this case goes: the clan who submitted first, is the clan which the player will play for (unless the player states in this thread that he isn’t involved in that clan, or in any other way mentioned in point 1)
- Clans all agree with the rules as noted on the JJ2WC website. I did not complete these rules yet, but I’m working on it.
- Clans need to specify in which tournament they participate: Capture The Flag, TeamBattle, or both.

I’ll give you an example of how the clan should fill in their subscription.

Tournaments: CTF, TeamBattle.

In short, the information we need to know about each clan is: Name and Tag, Website (if any), Leadership (enter the co-leaders and leader here, nationality and emails are not required here), Warteam Members (for each member, fill in name, nationality and e-mailaddress – MSN address would be the most convenient), Tournaments the clan participates in.
There are no limits for the quantity of the warteam members, but subscribers cannot say “the whole clan”. Each player needs to be specified as the rules above show, or they won’t be counted. There is a minimum amount of warteam members required though: a warteam needs to consist out of at least 3 members, more are recommended. Members recruited after the subscription is closed cannot play in JJ2WC3. Leaders can edit their subscription before the deadline is closed, though.

The subscriptions will stay open for 4 days or 96 hours, they close at Friday December 30th, at 8PM GMT[b]. Before that time, [b]6 clans have to be subscribed for a tournament to make it possible. If CTF has 7 clans and TB only has 4, only the CTF tournament will be organized. This seems cruel, but else it’s just not worth the huge effort of organizing.

The teams could get a temporary tag and a name even each with 5 members(and some members may take turns in being in front-line and as a backup.) Just something like Dynamic Trio(or Pentad, whatever), or Dream Team both as DT and DTE? :P

Heh and CC's got around 40 members for jj2 anyways from which actually only a small piece is regurarly active, or let's say, almost half, whom have played at least in this month for a few times. I mean visited public servers and such. :r

From my point of view, most of the people are already bored of CTF, and that's why there aren't enough sign-up's too. Just think about it, A TB tourney would be a fresh change to the whole competitive JJ2 scene and could make the tourney a lot more attractive, especially if that stats recorder (which is already done, hopefully) will be used.

I think it is just your point of view rep, I dont like using the phrase most people, but in this case i think it is safe to say most people still prefer ctf to tb.
There are of course a lot of people such as yoursef who are either bored of ctf, or love tb dearly so I suppose 2 tournaments would be great, but harder to organise of course...

I don't find TB any more special than CTF. It is so far the same just without bases. It might be indeed underhosted or not-too-much-played mode but still, there isn't, so far, much difference to CTF...And so is also a rather boring one because: If there was a built-in TeamBattle in jj2 or however it's called...with the possibility to have players for 4 teams to play at the same time, it could add interest slightly for me at least...though that would have to change the gameplay in the tourney or be not used of course. :roll:

No. This will NOT be changed. You get BOTH tournaments if ENOUGH clans sign-up. In the 3v3 tournament (if the clancup won't work) you'll get BOTH tournaments if enough teams sign-up. :P

I suggest putting Dethroned in the TB mappool, btw.

I see that the amount of interesm among the JJ2 clans is so low that they even refuse to sign up for a proper Clan Tournament. I'm kind of disappointed, to be honest.
Well, since this plan ain't working out, I have to come up with another idea to save the day. The CTF Cup kind of turned into a joke, since only a lousy 3 clans bothered to sign up for it, so that's out of question already. Because of the current so-called "Team Battle Hype", I guess it would be fun to host something with this gametype.

My suggestion (also inspired by R3ptile) is to hold a Clan Cup for Team Battle after all, but with 5 clans instead of 6. Normally, I would've divided those 6 clans over 2 poules, but now I'll put them all in one poule. It will be a Single Competetion cup, which makes a total of 10 matches. After this poule, there will be a playoff phase (#1 vs. #4, #2 vs. #3) and then a final and 3rd/4th place match - which makes a total of 14 matches, played in about 2 months, I think.

On the other hand, I could host a 3vs3/2vs2 TeamBattle Cup where people can select their own teams. In this way we would probably get more teams, but it's not a Clan Tournament anymore.

In short, thgis concept fails, but there are a few alternative paths we may choose. I'd like to hear some comments.

NOTE: The TB Mappool will probably be revised since some new maps have been published recently which are worth playing.

u cant say CTF suxx... there's tons of reasons why it is superior to the jj2 tb actually, plus the specter of ctf levels is far wider to that of good TB levels. But thats not the point, or so I dare presume, the point is you're better at battle hence u wish to play TB.
I do agree it takes less coordination and teamplay as opposed to CTF which means less practice is needed. In that respect I must agree that TB would be quite welcome, as most teams hardly practice nowadays and are discouraged to play ctf because of it.

One has to tell teammates where the enemy players are and stuff like that, so ya I suppose ur right, there is quite some teamplay, yet even on other games TDM/TB is viewed as less tactically demanding as opposed to ctf, but by no means inferior(rather superior...)

As no-one seems pleased with the current situation in JJ2WC3 (teams not showing up, bad communication etc.) I decided to freeze the entire tournament for a while. This shutdown will probably last for about a week so our crew gets time to reorganize things. It might seem a little strange to do this, but I guess it's the only opportunity left since the facts are constantly running ahead of us. A calm period will probably turn this in something nice after all.

I dunno, you didn't seem to be doing bad really. The main problem (as far as I have seen that is) seemed to be arranging a time that is convenient for no less than 6 people. That's something that has always been kind of hard. But perhaps this will give the contestants some time to sort out their agendas, so it may turn out ok.

Though he said he was also just away from home so he couldn't come either by any chance. Then, I wonder if you really told that for officials, they should have been immediately postponing the match, not an hour before the match.

For your info (and others too) my modem broke about one week ago, so I'm using some emergency line at the moment which only allows me to use my internet for about 5 minutes a day. That's why I stepped out of the Administration of JJ2WC3, as I can't work properly.
Furthermore, the listservers are being hacked so much recently that it's no use to start a decent tournament at the moment... Anyway, the matches we actually did were so troubled that I fully support Cooba's decision to freeze it until the hackers have been caught properly. After that, it's time te reorganize things, but it doesn't take much. We already made much plans to improve the situation.

And what's the crap about a "lazy and unmotivated staff"? Funny that you used to be a staff member yourself until we kicked you out because of unloyalty. You didn't do much to improve the situation anyway.
