Okay i have a problem with jazz 1. specifically, a problem with the sound.
I have the full version and it's patched with the TPpatch (obviously) and
i ran the setup and everything and it works (:D ) but i still have 1 problem...
The sound skips and plays too slow :O it says in the help for JJ1 that it's because
i dont have enough memory but that can't be why because my PC has lots
(768MB)! so i decided to investigate and i fooled around with the sound settings
and i discovered something. i had the sound at High quality and it was playing very slow so i set it to the lowest sound setting (medium). when I went to play
JJ1 again the music was faster but still skipped and was slow! I played anyway
and i realised when i got to the end of a level or beat a boss, when the score came up (points,time bonus, etc) the music played normal speed until the scores
ended and it went to the next level. then it was slow again! I don't know if it's
because i have a bad sound card or too fast of a PC or something.

If this helps, I have Windows XP, 1.8 ghz and 768MB of ram. and a 128MB video card.

Please help me! I want to play JJ1 with sound that doesn't make me want to hurt something!

and thanks in advance.

Try OpenJazz. Poke around in the General Jazz section, you'll see the project.

Better yet, if you feel like poking around dosbox.conf, I highly recommend DosBox (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/), not just for JJ1, but for other games you may feel like trying.

isn't OpenJazz a copy of the JJ1 engine? i have nothing wrong with
the game, just the fact that the music plays way too slowly (and it hurts my
ears listening to it lol)
EDIT: oops, late post

OpenJazz is a remake of the JJ1 designed to do stuff that fixes such problems as slowness, and slow music.

You can fix this by pressing Ctrl-F9 until it's at an acceptable speed.

Also, if you feel a little adventerous, open up dosbox.conf (should be in the same folder as dosbox in your start menu), and search around for the string "cpu=normal". Change that to "cpu=dynamic". That way, DosBox will use a special method of emulating the x86 archetecture, making it easier to run games at acceptable speeds, if they work in dynamic mode. So far i've experienced no problems with dynamic mode, but if you do, call me.

CTRL-F9 just closes the program, and i can't find any cpu=normal in the conf file...
but CTRL-F8 is frame skip, is that what you mean?

Oh, oops, I meant Ctrl-F12. That increases the clock cycles DosBox is allotted per millisecond.

Just hit Ctrl-F in notepad with the conf file open and look for "cpu=". you should find it.

okay i tried that nothing comes up ....
but i belive this is it tho --

[cpu]
# core -- CPU Core used in emulation: simple,normal,full,dynamic.
# cycles -- Amount of instructions dosbox tries to emulate each millisecond.
# Setting this higher than your machine can handle is bad!
# cycleup -- Amount of cycles to increase/decrease with keycombo.
# cycledown Setting it lower than 100 will be a percentage.

core=normal
cycles=3000
cycleup=500
cycledown=20

and thanks for the help(i just set the cycles to 5500 and it works fine lol)
i will check out dynamic and see if that does anything! thx

That's it! *smacks head* I haven't used DosBox in about a month, my mind is somewhat stale there. Sorry.
