I think if we need to keep jazzjackrabbit alive then we need to keep the 1st one alive. so we need to buid more levels and the sorce code has been found hasnt it.
Also if you do biuld jazz1 levels send some screenshots here.Should we keep jazzjackrabbit 1 alive?

...Thunder's post doesn't quite refute the arguments presented in the first post of the topic, no. Anyway.
First off, we have not found the source code. If you spend any time reading posts you'll notice that Openjazz is an original program using JJ1's data files but none of its code, as that is not available. As for making JJ1 levels, yes, that is always a good idea insofar as it goes, but unfortunately this topic is not going to provide much incentive for people to do so.

By the time we get the sourcecode the community will be dead and buried.

So, something should be done to provide more incentive to make JJ1 levels.

We should make jazz1 animations if we have the source code

We already can I think, source code notwithstanding.
Besides; *I* have the source code, I'm just not in the mood to share it.

Of course you have the source code. :-s I've also got it. I'm also a six feet tall bodybuilder.

You don't really *need* it, reverse engineering would be possible... I bet it has been done with more advanced games than Jj2.

That would not be the game's real source, though.

Anyway, however things may be, Jazz Jackrabbit will stay alive as long as people love the game.

That would not be the game's real source, though.Yeah, but I asssume that this guy would want the feature even if we don't have the real sourcecode.

I have personally asked Becky not to release the source code, as if it is released, it will probably spawn an unholy army of crappy new features.

You could be right, I mean we want to keep the game origanal.
People we see jazzjackrabbit different, because of all the new things on it.
If the source code was to be released, I think there should be a limit to download.
Or maybe give it to a responsable person, who is good at this sorta stuff.
They could then make animations that are good, and not bad, try stick to the origanal game as possibal.

Like the features in some of your patches?
The source code would probably be partly maintained by the 1.25 council, not because we'd "own" it but because it's just a collected group of people. If you care to read the forum at all you'll see that your scenario is kind of unlikely. There seems to be a consensus that firstly all bugs should be squashed, and feature requests are treated sceptically.

What if someone leaked it out?..leak it out? I'd expect the source to be open to everyone if it was released (legally). It would be out. So? Some people will make bizarre versions, and they will end up being unsupported, since no-one cares about them. The most reasonable implementation of the source, worked on by the smart developers, would obviously end up being the one used by most. The people who choose to install "Jazz 2 with Pokémon sprites" or "Jazz 2 with endless health" would probably be in the minority, and their games wouldn't be compatible with the majority. They would be isolated.
