View Full Version : Avatar Size

Isn't the size for the avatar kind of small? Most forums have it bigger and resizing pics does make them lose quality. Really, wouldn't 150x150 pixels, or even just 100 x 100 pixels make more sense and not be as limiting? So I suggest you increase the maximum sizes for avatars.

They're actually supposed to be more like personal icons here.
And no matter where you are, 150 x 150 is stupid big.

personal icons? Bah, and if not 150 x 150 then 100 x 100, which is not big. It just also happens to be the size of this awesome new avatar I found >.>

I'm sure everyone will benefit though.

48x48 is an avatar.
100x100 is an image.

Theres a difference.

There's clearly no arguing with you people. Your ways are all set in stone. 100 x 100 isn't even that big (and is allowed on most forums).

We hate the administrators. They hate us. Because of that, our avatars are limited to 48x48.

48x48 is a good size for an avatar. Sure, i'd like 64x64, since i'm used to editing for that, but let it slide.

Many members will recall a time when we didn't even have avatars, so no, our ways aren't set in stone. (They're set in cold butter.) 48x48 accents a post instead of overpowering it. If you want to overpower your posts, you're free to use your signature. Those have an image limit of 700x200.

What I'd argue for is a higher possible filesize so you don't have to try for an hour to just get the filesize down enough..

Avatars should have a max size of 2x2 pixels, and only targa files should be allowed!

Alas, even the wise Gixugif couldn't think of such a simple and obvious idea.>.<

EDIT: See, that's not that big, now is it? However I still will say the avatars should be allowed larger.

150 x 150 is a little big, but 100 x 100 isn't so bad really.

You probably wouldn't have been allowed to have an animated avatar anyway.

Completely offtopic, your sig seems to now be some sort of spoiler, but I can't really tell what I'm looking at.

There's something wrong with animated avatars now!?

And how is it a spoiler? It's an extremely short clip from FMA, and not revealing at all.

Ineed, but seriously what is the reason for that (Just curious, I'm done with my complaining)?

Because non animated avatars don't distract you don't offset your post and look more professional

Gixugif

Well I suppose I can see the distraction...but, proffesional? I think this forum isn't very worried about looking professional. But none the less, no point to this topic anymore.

I don't really understand why people would want to use animated avatars anyway. Most of them horrible, annoying, and distracting.

Radium, who was against avatars when the idea came up, proved his point against animated avatars when he made a strobe-like image of the word "RAD" flashing at a high framerate. The file was small in size (under 2k) and at the same time was distracting and annoying.

Besides, I like the way they are now. Stap ;(

I guess it's really because it gets annoying fast. It's hard to read posts when your signature is flashing all the time.

Hm, well I myself don't find avatars distracting at all, no matter what (well, I suppose I shouldn't go so far as to say that...). However that is probably just because I am used to seeing animated avatars. Even your image I didn't really pay attention to while I was reading your post.
