I really just wanted to make the 1000th JCF thread, but this is something fun anyway. What was the first tileset you ever made? Do you still have it? If so, show or link.

Mine was

I lost them in the file transfer to my new computer, but my first tileset was about twenty lines and an armadillo. A REALLY poorly drawn armadillo.

I no longer have it, but it had Teal blocks for land(now you may understand why I'm so fond of Teal ground), blue blocks for sky, and sprites (with the names on them) of the fur recolors my freinds and I used over splitscreen. It also had a level that was essentially had a whole bunch of these sprites all over the place, and the game was a bit like Battle meets Hide and Seek. You would try to blend in with the still sprites and hope no one notices you if you were low on health.
IMO a nice concept, but not one that is pratical for wide distribution

Radium, I used that tileset like, 5 years ago. Wow.

I remember my first tileset, MS paint, a sidewalk and a streetlight, no background, and there was nothing under the sidewalk O.o Don't have it anymore, thank god.

I'll post a picture of it later.

Don't remember and don't have it anymore... I remember one of my first tilesets was one that was supposed to show the insides of Spaz' body. It had teeth, one-colored red ground tiles and a more darkly colored red background tile. And tile baddies. \o/
...when I first did this tileset, I think I kept trying to find out what color makes stuff transparent ( without success... )... and I forgot to use the grid at one point and just kind of blurted stuff where it seemed to fit. *cough*

Mine was a kitchen. Tile floor, sink, stove, counters, refrigerator. I had two non-working animations, one of the water turning on and off, the other of the stove turning on and off. I even had these jars that were supposed to be transparent, but the only transparent tile was the top left one. Auto Masked, of course. Awful Isometric perspective, no variation of color. I stopped once I realized that all I could do is run across the top of the tiles because of the no transparent auto mask.

Great fun, I'll see if I still have it laying around somewhere and post a picture.

I've hosted this a few times, so people may have seen it before. In any case, it would have been bigger, but I had some odd notion that tilesets had to be 100 tiles... yes, I knew there were tilesets that weren't, and I honestly have no idea what my reasoning was.

Pretty good for a first set, Violet. It kind of reminds me of something Waz would make. <strike>Now let's go make a remake of it for LMAT.</strike>

My first set was the original version of Odyssey. I'm not posting a screenshot here, but if someone else wants to, go ahead.

I remember seeing that. I tried to find a copy of it in my cache, but all I found was a rather interesting beta version of odyssey (the new one, not the original).

The aptly named Water Demon's First Tileset. It's still on J2O.

This is the original version. (http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/downloads/info.php?levelID=862)
This is the second version, way better, but not my first. (http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/downloads/info.php?levelID=865)

This was my first compiled tileset, aptly named "Test."

This is my first attempt at a tileset that could be used as such. I made it about three years after "Test." This one's called "Fungus Forest."

Haha, I remember playing a level you made with that tileset. It was funny when you hid behind the screenshot of yourself.

No clue about the name. It's like 90 percent ripped sprites and 10 percent bad hand-drawn things.

FUN FACT!: Every tileset after that I've ever made had the same filename for the mask and tile bmps, because for some reason after I made it JCF stopped accepting any other filenames.

That looks pretty good, Palle. How about including some buildings, like huts? Or giant trees? It would make the set even better ;)

My first tileset was "Building Site", which can still be downloaded <a href="http://www.alister.eu/jazz/packs/tilesets.html">here</a>.

Here it is, in all its beauty:

That's actually extremely good for a first set. I think I got that off J2C back when that was still going.

This thread was made to make fun of each others' crappy first tilesets, not to show off awesome first ones that are actually usable, you three. D=

Show me where it explicity states in that quote where we're supposed to make fun of crappy sets.

I guess it was kind of assumed implicitly that all the first sets would be awful, Cornflake01 type sets.

I have made a tileset called "Colorfull Tiles". But can't show it, it is on my other computer and it doesn't have a internet connection.
And the tileset is quite ugly. =P

I want to make a tileset but I don't have Paint Shop Pro (or any other program for that matter) and it would be sport themed..

Thanks Stijn..Maybe my idea could turn into a tileset..stay tuned..

EDIT: I have made a 2 minute tileset (just to see how it would work etc.) but whenever I build it, it becomes and error and then I can't build it. How do I fix this?

Fawriel
Aug 15, 2006, 05:16 AM
It has to be a 256-color bitmap.

Oops, meant to say tilesets..

Anyway just did a tileset..Here's a pic:
http://img82.imageshack.us/img82/235/hockeytilesetse6.png (http://imageshack.us)
So as you can see, it is a bad Hockey Tileset..Which I will further add things in the future..

And I hope to fix the lighting, because the lighting is terrible once you use it..
