View Full Version : City - New JJ2 idea

(My thread titles suck)
Odin and I (mostly Odin) have come up with a brilliant new idea for a continious JJ2 level... experience thing. The basic idea is a JJ2 city, similar to a hotel, except with more ephasis on battling and questing than collecting coins and buying items. Basically, you start out with a small city, but by collecting coins around the level (assuming you can hold on to them without dying) you donate to the city's treasury to unlock new buildings, such as ammo shops and convenience stores, and later upgrade them. However, as the city is very large, there may be several unmarked areas leading to quests. After a certain number of people complete a "quest," special buildings may be unlocked which may include speciality shops, or even buildings with mystical properties. That's a simple overview of the idea, but anyone who wants to find out more can read the original MSN conversation here. (http://www.fooproducts.com/junk/citytalk.txt)
And that's about it, but we ask you vote in the poll attached, and add any comments you have, since we're looking for feedback.

Hmmm. It sounds like a good idea, but can it be fully exploited in JJ2?

Not really. I feel as though everyone should get a HUGE city. Or a least a mayor's office that has a window and makes the city feel huge.

I had a similar idea except it was a whole reigon you could explore. There were quests too, do a quest well and you got a special something =D

I had that idea over a year ago (sometime around I posted my gizoogle search for "Jazz Jackrabbit" that popped up with "(-)y Jackrabbit") only it would have been for an SP pack, and it had a small plotline.

That's a good idea, but I wonder how it could be pulled off... After all, Jazz2's memory doesn't work well with such huge and complex MP levels...

IDEA.
What if we made a special version of JJ2 complete with four times the memory capability and ran it on that? This version of JJ2 could be fully compatible with 1.23, of course, but it'd be the only one that could run such a map and do it justice.

Brilliant, BN.
That's why I make the big bucks. ;p
But seriously, I'd be happy to start work on such a JJ2 mod right this second if someone's actually going to start making the map.

\o/ Feedback, Don't name it "jazz city" because that is a very generic name.

Call it Metropolis or something.
Call it Carrotus Capital.
What about calling it Carrotopolis? *gets killed by Anti-JJA fans*

If it gets too popular they could always hire more people.

I know that. Carrotus Village is such a generic name that I prefer not using it at all.

Wow, I forgot all about this.
We never started on the level, though we did come up with several ways of making it and how to get it to work, but no work was ever started on the level itself, contrary to what I said before.
I still want to do it, or something similar, but Odin appears to have become uninterested in it.

Ok, so please tell me how Odin being banned from the JCF makes him unable to work on a level and host it.
He really doesn't have to post here, Odin could just communicate through Jackle.

For a hotel/city level to become truly interesting, it should have a large varity of content and be orintated around PvP (Player versus Player). Most of the hotels I've played have just been rooms set up with warps, treasure mode'd and almost no real activities.
Edit: I actually once played a city level hosted in CTF mode to enable teams, and the two teams being cops and criminals. You could collect coins by winning various activities and use them to buy weapons, rooms, and more activities. It's on my old burnt down hardrive I'm afraid though.
