Hello my dearest of forum goons. Today is the day that I create a thread in Loricentral (which incidently happens to be this very site !) about that quazi-mysterious enegma of a man, the creator of Lori.

Way back in the day, I'd say a few <strike>days</strike>...<strike>weeks</strike>... <strike>months</strike> years ago, he had his very own website within which we, as a community, were free to bask in his very, very official database of his work, a lot of which, JJ2-related. My question to you -- dear friends, enemies, flamers, spazes and people who have generally no command of the English language -- what was his past? And what is he doing now?

This is a <strike>very, very</strike> semi-serious topic, folks, so get those buzzer fingers ready, because the first one to answer gets a...<strike>brand new car</strike>...<strike>mound of African diamonds</strike>...<strike>meeting with the real, live Lori Jackrabbit</strike>...<strike>great big hug</strike>...huge amount of appreciative recognition from me.

Yours Truly,
-Suck-a-Tube

Last I heard he started working really hard on his movie. So hard he decided to let all his sites fall down. You can still see the website if you hunt around internet archives.

From what I Googled two days ago he withdrew from all online activity in around 2002/2003. He still can be rarely seen on the Animation Nation Forum. The last time he was there was in January this year confirming that he is still working on his film, "Elysian Tail" and that there "is a few more years ahead before it's completed". There is 20 minutes of the film completed. I found some screenies too, and a clip.

I'll get the clip in a min.

It's not solo. Spring is working on it too.

I always heard that there were people who create the illusion of moving pictures by drawing and colouring many thousands of pictures and placing them in sequence, but never thought that they would actually go into this much detail to be working for so many years for a single motion picture. Gee, I hope he doesn't run out of <strike>sanity</strike> money, or anything...

Hi all, thanks for the interest :) Yep, I'm still around, although I've been busy working on my film. It's coming along well.

Interestingly enough I just reuploaded the teaser site for Elysian Tail. The current url http://www.noogy.com will take you there. Not a whole lot of stuff yet, but it'll fill out in time!

You know what would be better looking out? Finding the post in an animation forum where Noogy breaks down step by step his animation process.

Before I leave to find it, Hey Noogy.

Actually what dean does is start with a blank 8x11 sheet of paper. He then draws his frames traditionally, but also includes shading lines.
When he's Coloring the frames in photoshop, he adds a layer in which he colors in the shaded areas and changes that layer's opacity.

So really, he'd be better off making flipbooks and toying around with opacity sliders in graphic programs.

EDIT- I FOOOUUUNDD IIIIT! (http://www.animationnation.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=001670) Scroll down to the pencil sketch and there it is! "How-to-Elysian-tail"!

I'm tired of people never caring about Nick Stadler.

Yea; that guy was the first, he gave Jazz form. And he's still up and animating if I remember right.

Now for scanning. I scan everything at black and white... not grayscale. I like having solid black lines to color in, and it's MUCH easier to clean up digitally when it's aliased (blocky). Every frame is scanned in at double HD resolution (something like 5000 pixels wide). This way when I'm done coloring the artwork, I can scale it to 50% for the final comp, and it'll make all the lines nice and anti-aliased.
Hey, that's how I always do! =D

Idea is different from form.It was CliffyB who gave Jazz form though, even if JJ1 used Nick's. There were after all different Jazz sprites in the JJ1 beta, and I wouldn't be surprised if those were Cliff's.

Bear in mind another impressive figure. Dean is working at two times the highest HD-TV resolution. So those drawings are actually massive compared to how they turn out.

Edit : Well, that was back in 2003. I'm not sure what constitutes highest now.

He gave Jazz *a* form, not the form we assocaite with him today [Jazz 1 wise] I've seen those sprites, and it really wouldn't surprise me, it really wouldn't.

I've always been a big fan of Dean's style, but I really do like how Nick saw Jazz - it was more edgy and such. Now if they'd just compare size..

Wow. Those pictures of Noogy's are extremely impressive. While I'm not sure his style is the best one for Jazz, I can't deny that he's an excellent artist in his own right.

At this point, it seems Duke Nukem Forever will be released before Jazz 3. We must be doing something wrong here.
