Is there the slightest hope that I will ever play JJ2 through this mess?

And I thought my hardware setup was byzantine...

What, pray tell, does each item in that chain actually do?

We have, in order of appearance, a surfboard router, a Motorola VoIP gizmo, an AlphaShield (http://www.alphashield.com/) (in short, a very good hardware firewall), IBoss, (Filter, Proxy and Activity log), and a linksys router.

Have you tried configuring anything yet? And what problems have you encountered so far?

Edit: From what I've quickly read, some of the devices you're using might not be necessary such as the AlphaShield (since you have the Linksys router). But I can only guess what the purpose of everything you're using is.

What the hell? Throw all that junk away already as its nothing, but trouble.

See, I would do that, but I'm living in my parents basement and they are generous enough to give me a cat5 cable and an open port to the linksys router. Not quite generous enough to let me take over their network.

Right. You can ignore the VoIP gizmo and possibly the modem. You will however need to punch holes through the AlphaShield, the router, and possibly the iBoss. The AlphaShield probably just needs a firewall rule added to permit JJ2 traffic, while the linksys will need port forwarding setup. Having never used anything in that chain, I can't help you with the specific settings.
