View Full Version : Anniversary Bash IX

Yes, it's year 9 already. Time certainly flies. Anyway..
Last year a thread about the Bash was made on 1 March, so I'm making a thread now as well. In this thread you can discuss about levels that should be in, and who might volunteer for the bash.
I know the Bash is in April, but it's better to be early then to be too late. Also, new Battle and CTF levels might still be uploaded(because people are making packs at the moment)
This time I'm sure we will have enough levels. Last year it was more difficult.
So.. discuss!

I volunteer for compiling the packs
i don't know what else to say.

I'll volunteer as a partner F0R SN00ZE if possible. <STRIKE>I couldn't manage to compile it alone, heh.</STRIKE>
I'd rather not suggest anyone before that person is willing to be a volunteer.

I am too lazy to read up to see if it's already suggested, but include all levels from rag's latest CTF pack because they rock. As a matter of fact, pretty much all CTF levels made by.. uh.. known level makers, with a few additions should be included. Ideal would be if I could play for say.. 5 hours an end without seeing the same level twice.

Picking levels for the CTF Pack wouldn't be very hard, since there were so many good ones. It would be harder to pick battle levels though, so I am making a battle level ATM for this.

Nay, the more alternatives there are, the harder the choice.
Unless we're just going to lump everything in some major playlist.

personally i think someone should make a level dedicated to me
and it should be put in bash
just kidding
but seriously
i don't know what's up with all this new jj2 stuff.. i dont know what 1.23x or whatever is, nor do i know what carrotade is, or any of these mods that people are making and talking about, but i don't wanna see anniversery bash servers running all these crazy programs, i think people should enjoy the game how it was made with the exception of things like respawn, anti cheat stuff, anti laser crashing stuff, etc. of course.
also, let's see some levels that tend to be underplayed or underrated in there. i can't stand seeing battle1, distopia, diamondus warzone, security breach, etc. in there all the time, those levels get so boring.
well i gtg but yeah those are my opinions

A few comments:
Exit Sand Land was a scrapped level by OLsen I think.. unless it was updated. And Demon Rampart and Apocalyptic End are probably not finished. But they should be finished before the Bash. Other than that, nice lists. I don't have a feeling that levels are missing or something like that.

The bash isn't a competition, I say it's perfectly fine to throw in a bad level for the different form of entertainment a purposely bad level brings.
I mean, it's the bash. It's not like winning rounds matter or anything.
DarkSonic
Mar 28, 2007, 12:38 PM
In the first Bashes Bobo Meets Royalty and such levels were in it, but now that we have more levels I see no reason to put one of those levels in. If those levels could get in then you could put levels like F0R SN00ZE, The Shoot Hit and Best CTF Party Good Luck in as well. And we're not doing that.
Stijn
Mar 28, 2007, 12:45 PM
Look, Bobo Meets Royalty was not put in because it was considered a good level or because there was a lack of alternatives, but because it was so bad which was one of the reasons that it was great to play a round in it. And personally I'd love to see such a level in this year's pack too. Not saying that my level is worthy to be in it, but we shouldn't neglect the classic fun levels such as Cold Day Battle or Bobo or a newer level either.
FireSworD
Mar 28, 2007, 01:21 PM

In the first Bashes Bobo Meets Royalty and such levels were in it, but now that we have more levels I see no reason to put one of those levels in.
And since the Bash is just meant for fun, and it's fun to play a bad level on occasion, I see no reason to NOT put one of those levels in.

Yes.Okay then =D When's the bash... ;p
DarkSonic
Mar 29, 2007, 10:23 AM
Well, I think that playing good levels is better than playing bad levels. If you so want to play bad levels, then host a server with bad levels. The Bash arrangers know what they're doing.
n00b
Mar 29, 2007, 10:40 AM
1-2 bad levels in bash lineup =/= whole server of bad levels
Stijn
Mar 29, 2007, 11:34 AM
The Bash arrangers know what they're doing.
As opposed to the arrangers of Bash 1-7?
DarkSonic
Mar 29, 2007, 11:41 AM
Not really, because the old Bashes focused more on old levels and some good new ones. But in AB8 there were more new levels, and in this Bash there are more new levels as well. Only a few classics, which is good enough for me. So if you're going to put other levels than new ones, put some classics in instead of 'bad' levels.
Stijn
Mar 29, 2007, 11:44 AM
We shouldn't neglect our past.
I'm happy to see Hells Angels in, but apart from that, what levels do you mean with "classics"?
DarkSonic
Mar 29, 2007, 12:03 PM
Well, Battle levels like Rockingham Gardens, silent slayers and such. And for the CTF levels I mean the levels that are still played a lot like Semi, but also old ones like Crimson Diamond and JAIL.

Mar 29, 2007, 12:07 PM
I will try to avoid defining theese as 'bad' levels. Simply they are levels that are fun despite the fact they have to break certain standards to obtain that sort of 'fun'. Not to say quality levels aren't fun, theese are levels that are fun for a different sort of reason.
I'm all for it since the anniversary bash is supposed to be all about community members getting together, reminising, having fun etc. Not so much about elitism.
cooba

Which is why it sucks. Best CTF Party Good luck 1 with EC? Hahaha, no. Thats like Jazz 1 without the speed, guns, or green rabbit. And quite personally, the tileset choice sucks. It's like someone in IC said "OMG This one is blue toooo!!! IT IZ THE SAMMME!!!"
Now, Best CTF Party Good Luck 2 is a different story. It's got eyecandy, new music, AND A NEW GAMEPLAY TWIST THAT MAKES IT EVEN MORE FASTPACED!!

Nah, Cheq 3 was provided in the level's pack. I just checked.
I feel like commenting...hmm let's see...
I think this year is a bit disappointing, and things were rushed and lazily done.
Where's dethroned, The Chasm and Superconductor?
Battle Levels
1. Secret Base: ID 20516 ~ DarkSonic - This looks a lot like sanctuary.
2. Forest Awakening ~ Cooba - This one has an interesting background in my opinion.
3. The Temple of SUFFERING ~ P4ul - Seems like a newer version has been
released, but all I notice is a music change.
4. The Highlands ~ OLsen - Kinda abstract with the background, and an interesting music choice.
5. First Boredom ~ DarkSonic - Transparent blocks?
6. The Dismal Palace ~ Cooba - I think this level is a bit underappreciated. It has this dark, yet smooth
atmosphere. The layout encourages seeker spamming though.
7. Action Attic ~ BlurredD - Really liking the subtle atmosphere. The level lacks a definite theme though.
8. Hell's Angels ~ martin - No disrespect to martin's levels, but if classic levels are added, they
should be well known levels, otherwise there's no point in adding them as a classic. I've only seen this
level hosted about 1 or 2 times ever since I started playing jj2 online.
9. A Victorian Urban ~ Birdie - It's SUMMER! - I love calmness of this level, but it's a bit
lacking looks-wise in my opinion.
10. Romantic Landscapes ~ Snooze - Interesting theme, but it's a bit too busy for my tastes.
11. XLM Woods - Far East ~ Dx - The Heck?
12. Eastern Swampside ~ P4ul - A decent battle level....Let's see what else is there...
13. Ice Temple Ruins ~ Odin - I tested this level...It's fairly decent.
14. Unusual Pac Man ~ FireSworD - Stijn wanted 'fun' levels, so I just made something in a few
minutes.
15. PsychosiS ~ P4ul - I was expecting this to be one of those really big levels, but it turned out to be
quite the opposite, it's like a duel level.
16. Anarchy ~ BlurredD - A quite old level. I finally get to hear the music, which, in my opinion, is way
too heavy for this sort of level.
17. Fields of Gold ~ Quickz - It's a heaven level with haunted.it as the
music choice, and it somehow works out.
18. Sub-Terrestrial ~ Purplejazz - I love this level. Keep it up. Lovin' the music choice too.
19. An Uninspired Psych Level ~ Cooba - Seeker Spamming is king game-play here, and I hate how open
the layout is. I like the eye-candy though.
20. Apocalyptic END ~ BlurredD - Sometimes Blur will make something which seems to take
inhuman skill to accomplish. This level does seem inhuman, in the way a random level generator would
make it. It's pretty formulaic, because the floors have designated types of tile(s) and the eye-candy is the
same concept everywhere, and the layout as well. That aside, I really like the theme, realized greatly by
the music, and it would seem fun to go around casually pwning with fly carrots. However, I was a
bit underwhelmed here.
CTF levels
1. Helldome ~ EvilMike - A near perfect level in my opinion. It has a layout you can't
really complain about.
2. Fluid Surface Oscillator ~ Birdie - The music choice is sort of a stretch for this
theme in my opinion, but this an interesting and unique level.
3. Radiation ~ Snooze - Haha, cool. Snooze used the standard tile-set usage, and it
doesn't feel dead like most other levels using it in my opinion.
4. Perception ~ DarkSonic - Great tile-set, and the level-making here really
accentuates the look of it.
5. Personal Park ~ Sacrush - I already commented on this before.
6. Ice Cream Island ~ Birdie - This sort of base placement is interesting. I never really got a
chance to try this level competitively. The theme is smooth.
7. Tainted Heaven ~ Snooze - FLOATUPS! Oh, and the level seems like it should get plenty
of attention in the future. After all, Bashes help newer levels get noticed.
8. Fright Night CTF ~ martin - A classic, good choice.
9. Retribution ~ Wallace - I don't know if I like how close the bases are compared to the
rest of the layout.
10. Demon Rampart ~ P4ul - This level surprised me. He made the level have organic features, considering levels made with this set tend to
be quite the opposite. It's an accomplishment really.
11. Chlorophyll World ~ Enigma - An Enigmatic layout, but lacking a bit looks-wise in my opinion.
12. Very Stupid Floating Castle ~ Ragnarok - This level is like QQ in so many aspects, and the
layout takes some getting used to. The bottom area is interesting.
13. Significant ~ DarkSonic - Liking the music choice and bright atmosphere.
14. Toxin Twister ~ Cooba - Meh, I liked Middle drainer better atmosphere wise. The level has a
unique layout, and there are some interesting tactics here. Although I've noticed games become a real mess when lots of people are involved.
15. Abandoned Sidewalks ~ Quickz - I never got a chance to play a serious game here, so I wouldn't
know what to say about it, except there is one interesting game-play aspect added by the use of one-ways.
16. Atom Heart 243.5 ~ SuperJazz - Already made my thoughts clear on this one.
17. Cloud Connected ~ OLsen - Enough with this music already :P Anyway the level is quite...Pink
18. icsurreal ~ Cooba - What?
19. Nitrosity Alternate Palette ~ Violet CLM - I have no idea what that title means, but
once I saw the level seemed to be synchronized with the music choice, I knew it was a Violet level.
20. The Death Facility III ~ P4ul - AGONY! Oh man, I love this level. Once again P4ul makes
a seemingly organic looking level out of a set not meant for that purpose, and this level looks quite
surprising in that aspect. This level looks like a lot of fun, as long as the chaotic look
doesn't translate into the gameplay as well. ;)

So I don't know why everyone is using strange time zones but I put in some images into there to tell people when things start. Please feel free to edit the images to fix any time mistakes I may have made. Note that the input time to the image is in GMT!
And if anyone wants to make my images formatted a little prettier go ahead -- I have to run and don't have time to format it to follow styles.
11. XLM Woods - Far East ~ Dx - The Heck?

Oh, and I fixed my router for now, as you might have seen tonight. I can still win, it seems.

The bottom feeder is there so that you can get points without having to kill the "it". For every roast the bottom feeder makes, they get one point.

At one point the server thing said Friendly Fire is now OFF or something and I though I'd been shooting me teammates. :)

Right, that clears a lot up. But, sorry to be a bother, how does one become the bottom feeder?
blurredd
Apr 7, 2007, 09:36 AM
By having the fewest roasts and most deaths. Typically, the first bottom feeder is the first player that gets roasted.
