Hello fellow Jazzers :)

My debt to the government of Finland is nearly fulfilled (military service, that is) and it's time to think a little bit about the coming months.

Since the beginning of 2006 and the release of Twilight Park I've been pondering for options to make more tilesets, but I came up with nothing but ideas I'd like to make reality some day. The military service took my attention away for eight months. Still I had some time to think and make plans. This is what came out of my head and will be my 13th tileset, codename: Castle of Cadavers. To prove something is done, I present you the first Castle of Cadavers plan I drew in the garrison.

Plan 1:
<a href="http://img161.imageshack.us/my.php?image=castlefl7.gif" target="_blank"><img src="http://img161.imageshack.us/img161/5327/castlefl7.th.gif" border="0" alt="Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us" /></a>

Direct link (http://img161.imageshack.us/img161/5327/castlefl7.gif)

Some thoughts on the tileset.

- I must point out that this is only the name I intend to use temporarily while shaping the tileset to its final form. My military friend influenced me in this: he was a fond death metal listener :) Also the contents of the set may and probably will change at least in some degree. So far these listed things reflect my sketches of Castle of Cadavers.

- It is a castle of many centuries old
- The structures are covered with plants
- Has feel of dungeon and eerie ghost house in it
- No harsh material anyway, I intend to stay in the comical style
- Will have several platform types to walk on
- Props will include different kinds of castle stuff and skeletons maybe :)
- In the background there will be a night sky, a fortress or a cemetary
- Ground itself on layer 4 will be bricks or dirt.

- I head for the tileset release in the summer 2007.

- Most importantly, I will be creating a blog where I explain frequently and thoroughly, what is going on in the tileset creation process. I hope this will make the wait for you Jazzer guys more fun and insightful :). This blog will launch in the beginning of the summer and it will feature lots of my thoughts said out loud and pictures of the nascent tileset. Expect the news in this thread.

So, dear Jazz Jackrabbit 2 players, I will try to do my best and be in the schedule I have made reality in this post. Developments will ensue :)

BLADE <3 <3 <3

I was just recently thinking, "such a shame Blade disappeared from the community".

I like the concept, though the castle/horror theme has been used so much already it will be hard to make something original. I trust you to be capable of it though ;)

What I would personally love to see is lots of variations of the skeleton I see in the concept art. Piles of skulls and the like. I've always had a weakness for those things :)

Lame, you're good at drawing too.

Sounds cool. Although there are alot of castle tilesets, like Stijn pointed out, it'll be nice to have another one. And needless to say, a new Blade tileset is always worth waiting for.

I hope it will be easier to use than Twilight Park. We need more new tilesets, hopefully this one will be one of those good new tilesets.

It sounds awesome so far.

It's pretty neat, anyway. :)

New post in the Blade blog :)

The Blade tilesets you never saw (http://blade-of-finland.blogspot.com/2007/05/blade-tilesets-you-never-saw.html)

This post features my tilesets before Aztec. You would think Aztec is antique, but hold on until you see Bay... :P

I am writing this a lot more that I first intended to :)

The next post shows you the second Castle of Cadaver concept drawing.

http://blade-of-finland.blogspot.com/2007/05/more-cadaver-concepts.html

The next blog update will be informed in this same post by editing it. I do this so that this thread does not pop up to the top of JCS forum every few weeks because of my monologue.

Nice tileset. I have a use for it in my next level pack.
Maybe not my next one. Maybe the one after the one after that.

Interesting blog entry you have there Blade. Your Eztec tileset is in my memories as one of my all time favorites. And it was nice to read more about it. I haven't tried much of your other tilesets in JCS though, but that doesn't bring down my interest in your new creation!

This was a pretty interesting read :) I never really thought that Beton was anyhow similar to or inspired mez03, though.

Now you made me want to create a Beton level using Run as the background music(!)

Other than that, this looks really good.

I am delighted to tell people that this tileset is nearly 70% finished. Release before the new year is practically a solid fact!

In addition, it is now the time to start adding the real development diary entries to the blog. Go check out the first entries (yes, they will become more interesting as the time passes :) )

Hello all, and happy new year '08 :)

Multiple entries have been added to the Blade blog (since that last message in 7th December), and they might be something of interest :) The entries are still concentrating to what I was doing in August 2007, but hold on, they get more interesting entry by entry :)

http://blade-of-finland.blogspot.com

To the current state of Dungeon I dare to say that the tileset release is not far away :) I will not slow the developing process down now, so close to the completion, I want to see the tileset ready as much as everybody else.. .:)

Blade

A straight quote from the blog entry dated 13th of January 2008. I believe this is something you call good news :)

Dungeon is finished.

Let's use that Header 2 font for once :) Yes, this is reality. The 1010 tiles tileset is now finished, and it will not see any major changes after this. Quite an intensive time of wrestling with Paint Shop Pro and other devices have led to this point. The first concept drawing done under codename Castle of Cadavers was made in December 2006. That was originally intended to be a picture of an actual coming tileset, as usual when I am working with something, the final result is something else. A long time of nothing happening ensued the conception, but Dungeon finally got into the development phase in August 2007. The base of everything was done during this time and everything else (aka meat on the bones) was done in October 2007 to January 2008. I will get to this as the diary progresses further. At this point I can say, that the Dungeon development diary has a total of 41 entries with the last one being a gigantic entry looking into the year 2007 and making of Dungeon. The diary is accompanied with 37 screenshots, and they will be seen here later, of course.

Now it really is not long time to the release in Jazz2Online. Watch that space :) And oh yes, let me tell you the real name of my 14th tileset. That's The Fortress of Forgotten Souls and the abbreviation being simply "Fortress". See you soon at J2O!

While I work on the additional stuff that must be added to the Jazz2Online release, check the blog regularly :) Many, many entries are still to be seen.

You could say that Fortress of Forgotten Souls is now like yesterday news, but I'll say what I have to say anyway.

The Blade blog is still updating, after a 2 month pause (moving to an own apartment messed things up, like 1,5 months of no Internet). It is now proceeding in entry number 20, and as it is quite easy to translate the short entries to English, it is probable that almost everyday a new text is added. As I have said before, there are 42 entries of Fortress of Forgotten Souls rambling, in addition of the tileset entries I will add at some point.

Please refer the Blade blog if you are interested! I promise that ideas of new tilesets are pondered there when the time comes. Some of those 42 entries actually have some thoughts on new tilesets already.

Thanks, people, see ya! :)
